Infinite Tech Preview – UI & LIVE

I’ve noticed a few things that have stood out so far:

  • AI selection changes do not always save in the menu, maybe it’s a back-end issue? - The menu to customize our Spartans should be available while waiting to start a game instead of having to going back to the main menu. I apologize if I’m missing something. - PLEASE provide an option to turn off UI outline colors. I would rather know who my enemy’s are by the red name above their heads, like in every previous halo. If they don’t have the team icon above their heads they are obviously an enemy, correct? Thanks for looking!

I’m a little concerned about the concept of tying battlepass progression solely to challenges. I would like so see some XP awarded for in-game performance as well.

I like the idea of moving away from static Red vs Blue so that everybody can use his individual colors. On the other side I have to say that the red and blue glow is really really really confusing. Also, I almost never know If the enemy’s shields are down or not due to the glow.
What I could think of as a compromise is that each team can vote for their team color before the match starts. But that red and blue glowing is too… simply too irritating.

First I want to say I love the amount of customization in the game and it all looks and feels like halo which is fantastic and I think you all did an awesome job with it!

I do have a concern with the battle pass progression. I don’t know if daily challenges will continue to cycle as you complete them and grant XP each time or if they’ll just be a single challenge a day granting like 150 XP (because I ran into a PvP daily challenge right away that couldn’t progress) but I blew through the weekly challenges in a handful of games, finished the final 50 kill challenge and then had no way other to progress the battle pass past lvl 7 for what I assume would be until the next week came around. Which then makes me wonder why I would continue to play multiplayer until the next week if there was nothing to earn until then.

I think if you could find a way to implement some type of smaller reward for just playing games too that’s effected by the score you receive in each match that would make the whole system work really well. If you were to earn a small amount of XP or credits based on playing a game/performance per game or something I think that would still give you a reason to keep playing outside of the challenges. Or if daily challenges are only one achievable challenge per day perhaps having a random group of never ending daily challenges that can’t be skipped through could solve this, like if you complete one daily challenge it just gives you another one at random but you can’t replace them like you can the weekly challenges. So that if players do want to continue grinding for progression after completing the weekly challenges they can, but it’s more difficult because you may get a challenge you find hard that you have to complete and if you can’t you have to wait until the next day. Because although the game is so much fun to play, I could see it getting kind of old to play multiplayer for no reward after the weekly challenges are completed.

Here’s a list of my brainstorming suggestions:
In Game UI

  • Customisable radar icons would be great - as in choose the colour of friend/foe/player arrow icon individually to what you chose in the outline system. - See teammates service tag above their name - with the OG triangle would be cool but service tags are essential for differentiating teammates - A more classic blue crosshair as an option would be great - not that the white is bad though. - Lowered crosshair as an option for those that want it? - Having OG shield colours as well as the friend/foe outline system.Customisation

  • Being able to choose individual attachments for right/left wrists and right/left thighs. - Zoom in/out while viewing customisation options.Medals

  • I like the medal rarity system, however, I think it should be done in a way that tells us its rarity in the description, rather than in the colour design - a lot of designs I feel could look so cool but are limited by the exclusively green/blue/purple/red colour scheme medals have gone for. - Medals need to be bigger and maybe moved to above kill feed / where they were in Halo 5.Battlepass

  • Progressing the Battlepass via challenges is great but they should always be available and you shouldn’t run out suddenly - either have it progressed via XP from game completion as well as challenges OR have unlimited challenges you can complete. Not sure if this is just for the flight though.I understand that some of these features may not be able to be implemented for various reasons - but they are suggestions for reason haha. Keep up the great work 343i!

I redesigned a few menus (with a terrible Photoshop job).

My over all goals were to:

  • reduce the amount of unnecessary sub menus you need to enter - make lists of objects show more of the list so users can have an easier time finding things without scrollingYou can see them HERE:

(I also made a Reddit post about this here.)

Music:

  • Like the music coming in as soon as the first team reaches half of the points. Though every time this happens the stats show 24 instead of 25.
  • Love that kick butt music in the menu. It sounds heroic hopeful and powerful. Unfortunately, the background with the pelican doesn’t fit (though it looks great for itself).
If the music remains (which I hope it does) I would wish to see a different background that fits the words “heroic, hopeful, powerful”. The background needs to “blow me away” and keep me staring at it and simply say “wow!”.

It feels like the whole menu was made specifically for controllers. It feels claustrophobic and some keybinds don’t make sense. Why does enter open the chatbox and space selects things? Maybe change the chatbox to backspace?

Here are a few items that I feel need some work to make the experience better overall.

  • Spartan Loadout/Customization needs to be accessed from a Character menu, flawlessly at any time
(don’t want to mention Destiny here but they do it the best of any game that shows your character)

  • Mid Match and Endgame Sounds need work - the guitar riff that happens midmatch and the end match music are loud and don’t feel like halo at all. More notification type sounds that trigger a feeling of accomplishment are needed on end game XP gains and stats.

  • Personal AI’s are amazing and you should double down on them and use them for some after match or mid match notifications
(in reference to previous mention on sounds)

I noticed during a match that someone had a hot mic, so I went to try and mute them. I suggest adding the mute method in the Scoreboard like in previous Halo games.

I have done all the weekly challenges and it says I have completed the capstone challenge yet it is nowhere to be found in the customization menu.

You did an amazing job - Its so funny i think the game play is great and I am literally just posting comments about the UI

Icons in the customization portion of the menu are glitched. The textures of the armor models are blurred white.

The post game/last match scoreboard has some stuff that could be changed

  • The light gray background with thin white numbers on top is hard to read, especially on the right column when your spartan has light colored armor coatings on, as he’s right behind the stats column - The selected player in the scoreboard’s row becomes highlighted white, and their name goes to black text, but their stats stay white text which is also hard to read - Power Weapon Kills is the first stat but is also on the 4th set of stats with Headshot Kills, Melee Kills, and Shots Fired - Give some indication of how many more stat screens there are and how to scroll through them (I only found that you could press right on the d-pad or stick to see more stats by accident as there’s no indicator) - VEHICLE_DE_STRUCTI_ONS - the word DESTRUCTIONS is split into three to fit in the stat column header, looks silly - Average Lifetime stat doesn’t work

No surprise here most 343 Devs appear to play controller.

I think the UI in the customization tab could use an overhaul. a vertical scroll feels like the wrong direction to be scrolling while we are looking through different changes to our spartans, weapons, and vehicles.

I think we would benefit a lot from having it be vertical and moving the item we are customizing to the right so we can see it. it would allow for more seamless changes and make the menu systems seem more natural.

The battlepass I have the same exact recommendation.

For the store i think the layout works just fine the way that it is

I think having to search and then back out twice in order to customize your Spartan while you wait is a little bit much. I feel as though this could be improved by allowing customization to be an option within the Start menu, so we don’t have to constantly back out.

Suggestion: when using the AI scan in-game, weapon pads that have not been spawned yet should glow red instead of blue.

-Double Click to apply skins, not inspect then equip, takes too long
-Option to move HUD elements to the top/ change them etc. make them like Halo 3
-skip endscreen option
-ping of each player while hold TAB
-be able to hear AI’s voice when selecting them in menu
-able to mouse over the firing drills to see different weapons
-ui to say if we complete challenges mid game
-Custom reticles
-would like to see people that are walking on minimap

To give some feedback on the battle pass, etc.
love the idea of the weekly challenge for a reward.
Not a fan of the XP boost being timed especially when it could be something you could buy from the store. It’d be nice to have it as for the next certain number of games so you’re not pressured to keep on playing to get the most of the boost you just purchased from the store. Also XP boosts have no purpose once you’ve completed all of your challenges so perhaps having some XP reward from in game actions would be nice so that battle pass progression isn’t just limited to doing specific challenges.

Lastly, a request I know would not be possible but to have the option in the store to purchase old halo songs you could have to play when you’re back in the lobby would be super cool. A bit like how fortnite has it but the songs join a loop rather than the one you’ve bought playing over and over again. It’s an odd request but having a song say from Halo 2 playing in the lobby would be awesomeeee
