Possibly, but I still would require some base level mechanic to gain XP, even if it was small in comparison to challenges. I think additional levels could be attributed to a Players Profile gained through additional tasks aside from the usual challenges. For example, specific events. That would be nice.
I suspect this flight took out a “base xp” mechanic to test this specific functionality of the challenges and level progression. Not sure if it’s a good idea or not. I know the test is 2 months behind the active build, so maybe that stuff has been set in stone already.
The Menus is way to complicated, and cluttered. The weapon bench is annoying, and I feel like we should have a list of weapons that we can see instead of having to scroll through them one at a time. Same with the armor, like it is in MCC. Also i feel like there are way to may screen that you have to click through to get where you want to go. To start a match and the go back to customization you have to click back through two screen, i don’t know why everything isn’t on the same screen with tabs on the top that take you where you would want to go, it would look cleaner and be much simpler to navigate.
Also the NEWS box in the menus covers up other players in the fireteam.
In some menues you have buttons where functions share the same button(Social Menu - Mute All and open Battlepass).
The whole short key access needs some tweeking. In some menues you dont have fast acess to others interresting menues.
Also it can happen that the whole menue doesnt load and you need to restart.
Also it can happen if you join in a game late that your sound is messed up.
Also the exp boost are kind of wierd. You need to use them before you finish all your challanges after that they become useless. I could have gotten twice as far in the BP if i knew that beforehand.
The battlepass UI is very bad there should be a clearer difference beetween free and paid even after you buy it.
Also the free “rewards” are garbage they mostly give just more exp boost and rerolls that is only useful for stuff you cant get.
Hey guys thanks so much for letting us test the game! I would like to note I am playing on Windows 11, so feel free to let me know if I can test anything specific with the new OS or if I dxdiag is desired!
Overall I like the UI, it is simple and the active background looks good. Most of my issues personally are about navigating it or in specific subsections.
- Everywhere, the UI camera angle is way too low. Maybe this is because I am on 3440x1440p, but it feels like my camera angle is always a child who is as tall as a Spartans knee. The bottom quarter of my screen is almost always ‘floor’ of the scene with the camera angles almost towards it. The one where the camera rises up on the Scorpion is especially bad as the floor is half of my screen the entire time, and you never see the top of the tank. This is also really back in the armor hall, my spartans knees/feet are in the middle of my screen, and his head is cut off. - In the armor hall, the customization feels tiresome, similar to choose profile customizations in MCC. I LOVE customization, and I want there to eventually be 200+ of each individual armor item I can go through to customize, so it is nothing to do with there too many things, but just that the single slow scroll bar for them all feels awful. - When you are ‘Modding’ the ‘Sockets’ for your Spartan’s armor, (changing color, helmet, shoulders, etc), the previews of each item are really unfinished. I am sure that is all it is, and the current build you devs are on is looking good, just on these it is very obviously the 3-D model of your Spartan floating in space. The angle is weird, the lighting is off, and the edges are rough, so I find myself clicking each individual item to see it on the big screen where it actually does look great. - I think this was already posted, but under ‘Body & AI’ the ‘Prostheses’ are totally broken. Select ‘Hand’ and your hand changes, but you can’t go back to none. Select transhumeral and it changes, but then none takes it to only hand or transradial. Returning everything to none, where your Spartan still appears to be nearly fully prothesis, then exiting prostheses does not appear to lock it in. - I’ve really really never been a fan of how your UI’s use spacebar to select things, but I don’t see that changing overall now. - Like others, changing the push to talk key-bind crashes the game. Thanks again!!
15+ year Halo veteran here, currently playing on Xbox One X. These are my notes for the UI and menus:
-
It was very difficult to find where the “consumables” were located. If we’re meant to use the double XP consumable during play, shouldn’t it be shown to us as an option in the “play” screen? Also, the timer that activates once you turn on an XP consumable, is no longer visible once you leave that screen. Have it running somewhere in a corner during its duration.
-
I agree with what’s been said a few times before about the layout… it’s a bit reminiscent of Call of Duty. That said however, it’s still got enough Halo visually that if nothing changes I can live with it.
-
I like the music here, but there’s entirely too much of it during the menus… especially that epic rock piece. I’m choosing what shoulder piece to put on and there’s a rock concert going on somewhere in the room. It doesn’t fit; stick to more subdued and mysterious songs for the menus. To quote the original mastermind behind Halo’s music: "If the music is constantly playing all the time, it loses meaning and is drowned out by what’s going on.”
-
When changing your spartan’s prosthetics, you have to switch back to “None” before choosing a new one, otherwise it doesn’t update.
-
In the post-game screen, when you go to “Team Lineup” there’s no way to tell which spartan model corresponds to which name. The models are not in the same order as the list of names. If the models were in the same order (left to right) as the list that would be good, or perhaps if there was a slight glow added to the currently selected player’s model… that said I think my next point is more important in regards to the post-game screen.
-
Post game stats: The good: I’m excited to see accuracy make a return! I also like how it shows when you “beat your usual” although it feels a little odd to say that in regard to your deaths. “Hey you died 7 times that game! That’s an improvement over your usual 4!” The bad: Part of the fun of Halo, for me & my friends at least, was seeing how you compared to the others in the last match. I don’t care to know that I got 2 killing sprees; I know I did… I just did it… and I’ll do it again soon enough. That’s going to get old quick. I’d rather see the old screen that shows every player’s general stats, so we can compare at a glance. Perhaps a little area for the most impressive medals earned that round? Bragging rights are always fun in games! Basically, those little post-game banter moments of “Whoa, Zach you didn’t die once?” or “Sean they were doing fine without you giving them 15 kills,” will never happen now, unless you specifically go looking for them or they’re pointed out by your teammates.
-
Yes, I realize that you can press X to see the “scoreboard.” But the scoreboard is severely lacking… Kills? Deaths? K/D? These are core stats that should be immediately shown. Also, the scoreboard is visually a bit broken, with empty brackets showing no names… I can’t really make heads or tails of it honestly.Keep up the awesome work 343, looking forward to a polished game later this year!
when partying up into a fireteam, the color I choose for my fireteam doesn’t change. it stays the same as my team color.
In regards to the battle pass the only way to know if you have unlocked something from the battle pass and what them items are is to go in the battle pass menu. In fornite when you unlock new skins etc there is an exclamation mark on the customisation menu so you don’t need to keep checking the battle pass. Can something be added to the customisation menu when new skins helmets etc are unlocked. They have an ! Marks above helmet or even if the box highlights a different colour or flashes just something to make it obvious.
Sorry for the long post and I hope it makes sense
The noise when going up and down through the UI is very ear piercing with headphones on. A deeper sound like in Halo 2 or 3 would be better than i higher pitched one, and nostalgic for most too.
We really need a mute button for players with loud background
Played for 14 hours so far and i’m really enjoying it!! here are the negatives!

The UI feels like it was built for console, the menus feel like they were designed with controller bumpers in mind, and don’t feel great to navigate on pc. to change helmets you need to:
- 1)Select Customize*
- 2)Select the Armor Hall*
- 3)Select your spartan*
- 4)Select the Helmet slot*
- 5)Select the Helmet you want*
- 6)Select the little equip button*
I’d like to see a bigger equip button at step 6 and to not have to go through step 3. - The Weapons Bench, instead of having to scroll through each weapon to customise the one you want, it might be better to have a way to directly pick like in MCC. Theres 7 empty customization slots on weapon customization screens too. maybe these could be hidden until we have something to fill them with? - The Menus feel too layered and like a maze to navigate. if Escape took us back instead of opening the control panel, i think that would help alot
- Open mic shouldn’t be the default option!! Most people don’t even know it’s set to open mic by default, in one of my matches there was a dad showing his kid the game, and since it was against bots let the kid play, and after a while they realised everyone could hear them and the kid got pretty upset. please atleast make push to talk the default for PC since alot of people have laptops that have built in microphones.
Currently unable to progress my battle pass. There are not enough challenges to give sufficient XP, and matches themselves do not offer anything for completions at this time.
If the concept is to reward players for actually playing the game, this needs to be adjusted. As of right now, challenges force me to play game types/use weapons that I otherwise might not have used in regular play. And then when I’ve completed them all and can play how I want, there’s nothing to gain from it.
After the new update I was looking through the armor customizations. When I was done i went to the AI and it was stuck on loading. I hit escape to back out and the menus disappeared and i was basically softlocked in the UI. I had to alt+f4 to exit as the settings wouldn’t come up.
ran out of challenge swaps and finished my weekly’s and now i cant earn XP since the challenges given are not specific to this preview build
I have a few things I noticed regarding the UI on the Xbox Series X version of the beta.
One big thing is I encountered a loop scenario. I was disconnected from the matchmaking process due to being “unable to connect to the fireteam”.
However hitting the okay message simply resumed attempting to join the fireteam/connecting to the server process which then threw the error again. It would repeat this loop endlessly. I ended up timing mashing back after hitting okay and I was able to back out eventually.
I also noticed that the Butlr AI can encounter an error state in the armor hall. It will not take the color and it renders in improperly as an object, since the face does not exist.
The background render scene can encounter an error when transitioning through the menus, were it does not properly transition back to the Spartan next to the Pelican, it gets stuck in the armor hall rendered scene.
It has taken me a little while to adjust to the new HUD but I’m getting there. The score placement feels good as that space isn’t too crucial or rich with information for the gameplay. My concerns only lie with the weapon, equipment, and grenade readouts. I’ve popped the HUD to full opacity so that they are more prominent in my periphery but I feel I’m just too used to the old positions in prior Halos and that eventually I’ll be more comfortable with Infinite’s HUD layout (a key moment that stood out to me was thinking I was getting a triple kill with a Gravity Hammer on Recharged but whiffed and died as it turned out I had no energy left in the hammer but the messages the HUD were giving me to show me that just didn’t register). The Challenge menus are clean and simple, though tracking progress feels odd as the progress bar sits at the top of each container rather than underneath where progress bars are typically shown in other games I play that have similar challenge systems (Destiny 2, Halo: MCC), but it is a small adjustment to make to get used to it. The Store page is nice and bold, and vibrant. Prices are easy to see and the deeper inspection of items is really nice to see, so you can get a full view of the coatings or armour attachments you are purchasing.
Please give me the option to scale the UI, it takes up a lot of screen space.
UI is missing quite a few things, feels clunky at times.
here are some of my recommendations & issues
- Being able to see XP booster time outside of the battle pass menu. (Making it so XP only counts towards game time would be nice as well) - Be able to use consumables outside the battle pass menu. - When using discord overlay, the game reacts to all my key presses so my menu has a “party”. - When leveling up the battle pass, it would be awesome to see what items you gained post game - When navigating the weapon drill menu with a mouse, I would recommend a double click on the weapon to move into the next set of choices. - Cascading menus on things like sensitivity similar to COD - Unbinding doesn’t seem to work? it just rebinds without unbinding. As mention by another user, I cant recall how many times I’ve died due to a gun switch when I wanted to throw a grenade. - Something I would recommend is maybe trying something like a quick invite menu, so you can invite your squad at the press of a button or mouse click without having to go into another menu, I would recommend being able to set what friends show up so like a best friends system? here are some possible placements Imgur: The magic of the Internet

> Trying to navigate through the customization menu has been… interesting. I often find myself going into sections that I don’t know how I ended up there or what there purpose is.
>
> The settings menu is way too clutted and confusing. Drop boxes or cascading menus are your friend.
> - Give me the basic sensitivity option, then a cascading menu to hid all the other sensitivity options in. - Split up the video settings and better explain what each setting does, offer a preview of the lowest and highest setting. CoD has been good with this and is insanely helpful in clarifying the changes - The option to unbind a button. Lord knows in the few games I’ve played pressing F and changing weapons when all I wanted was to throw a grenade with G has gotten me killed enough
Feel the same about it. Unfortunately very confusing and unclear. Menu navigation didn’t feel intuitive and I found myself lost very fast.

Change the " Rare " color coding from Blue to Green. Just to set Halo Infinite apart from other games near identical
color coding for content. Also make the magenta ( purple-pink ) to a more clear and deeper Purple. Make Legendary more Orange aswell.
Again a small thing but a thing that can break the mold and be more different from other service based games, rpg etc.
-
Love that you can turn down to OFF regarding hitmarker sounds. Keep that!
-
With the weapon offsets, it maked me think.
Could you later on make us LEFT handers make max use of the Southpaw controls by having weapon models and animations on the left side of screen/ HUD?
For both First person and Third person animations?
Sidenote:
Mirroring and nonmirror details on say weapons etc could be a solution. Might take some work, yes but might sidestep animating everything LEFT handed with possible left handed motion capture actors, you might not have.
Around 12- 20 % of worlds population are left handed. And alot are located in the " western " world.
All this talk about inclusion, yet rarily does any dev studio seems to give us Lefties any attention.
Alot of gamers are inherintly Left handed, if you can spare the resources for such a inclusion I bet it would be highly appreciated.
-
I love the horde of options you do have in settings, the more the better.
-
I LOVE that you can set the colors of your enemies, friendlies, fireteam as you please! Alos neat to see the killfeed/ combatlog reflect this
too.
-
The outlines are a NON issue, but would be nice to have Outlines intensity to even none at all.
And at the same time add symbol shapes and color choices to appear OVER players heads, shown in our HUD.
Besides or in combination with Gamertag/ Service Tag.
So you can have both Outlines and Markers if you want or none at all if you so please and want MINIMAL clutter.
-
Love that your Friendly color choice decides the color of your energy shielding! Keep it!
I see our old classic yellow/ orange shield color shows when it recharges anyway so thats fine.
-
Would be nice to select your Team Animal etc. Say I want my team, at least from my perspective be Cobra or even Wolf or
some other animals ( plus alien ones with Elite gameplay? instead of Eagle as default.

Having a settings option to lower or rise the crosshair position would be great! Like as in past games the crosshair was under the middle line of the screen,
and modern is having it in the middle or even a bit higher.
