Infinite Tech Preview – Social Arena

PC controller user here. A few things:

  • We need a “drop equipment” button similar to the new “drop weapon” mechanic. There have been so many situations where an enemy has picked up a power-up before me because they didn’t have equipment yet I needed to hold a button. Replace “scan” with “drop equipment” as the scan is actually useless, or leave it unbound and give the option to the player whether to rebind it or not.
  • Similarly, can controllers get a push to talk bind? Don’t bind it by default, but it feels like a massive step backwards from MCC that just added push to talk to every controller.
  • Radar range is a tad too small for infinites movement speed, particularly for big team. Maybe increase it to 20 or 25?
  • Red reticle range needs to be reevaluated [See link at end of feedback for description]. Please Either pc controller users get it back, or remove it from console as well. Halo should be fair starts, and currently, it isn’t.
  • Sniper glint is nice, but when you zoom in on an enemy sniper it should disappear. Similar to Battlefield. Currently I can’t shoot at a sniper user accurately once I zoom in because of the obnoxious persisting glint.
  • Vehicles need more visual -Yoink!- to let me know it’s near death. There’s all this per piece destruction that never gets used. It sometimes feels like my vehicle dooms out of nowhere. On the warthog for example, pop some wheels off even if they haven’t been directly shot at. For the ghost, pop the hood off. There needs to be a semi-consistent build up of damage.

Playing on Xbox One.

There were a couple of issues in Social and Bot Arena that became a bit more apparent on the bot side of things. Namely…

  • TTK feels too fast when going up against certain weapons. I am unsure if the AR has a headshot multiplier or not but I died to AR users in less than a second multiple times.

  • Tying in to the above issue, some weapons seem difficult to use properly without dying quickly. Namely the Gravity Hammer; With a ranged weapon like the AR being able to kill you so quickly, it doesn’t feel worth it to pick up a melee weapon like that.

  • Aim assist on controller feels almost nonexistent with a good few weapons. The Sidekick was affected most of all by this; It became difficult to stay on target at range.

Please research the Halo 3 vehicle gameplay, the destruction was way more impressive, the way ghosts would start shaking as the cores overheating before exploding, the over explosed hdr lighting in Halo 3’s explosions still looks amazing and was way ahead of it’s time I don’t know why it went away, even now I’m looking in forum threads people comparing a halo 3 ghost destruction to the infinite’s and it’s pretty laughable.

Please allow for warthogs and mongoose to have seperate stick control, one for the camera and steer and acceleration on the other like in previous halo’s (1-reach) Steering with the camera is awkward as hell and only really works for the ghost since you can strafe, this also only makes how wooden the vehicles feel even more obvious.

Bring back player collision, fix the knockback on grenades and the grav hammer, Make vehicles slide and bounce more.

Just wanted to say I can’t stand the sounds for strongholds mode. They sound kind very similar to Windows error notifications and it’s just very abrasive hearing that every 15-20 seconds as a zone flips.

Game mode itself is a lot of fun though.

If it hasn’t been said yet, I’m having troubling making any armor hall changes between matches. Have to restart the game to be able to equip anything.

Would be really useful if the game let me choose the server I want to play in. I am from Brazil and it is very frustrating to let game decide all the time on which server I will be playing when I search for a match. I know most of the audience of the game will be in the US, but there are players from all over the world

Played some BTB today and yesterday.

I want to like this game but…

If I die during play I can’t move the camera

At the end of a match there are 4 Spartans standing there, whippi, show the best play or the last kill…or something.

Game pass unlocks are very under whelming, all the way to the end and you unlock a visor color, a knee cap armor or something else similar. I don’t know what the answer to this would be but I just don’t care about ranking up…so far.

The little “doink” you hear when you kill someone needs to be more pronounced, if you don’t have anything to look forward to in the game pass and there are not animations at the end, at least give us some sense of accomplishment when we kill someone. The doink gets mixed in with other sounds and you hardly notice it.

Also, end of game stats are all mixed, if you were the best player…how would you know, I see scrolling lets you see different stats but if I have the most kills or highest score I want to be on top.

On a good note, the gameplay is fun and super smooth

Social arena feels actually in a really solid place. Weapons seems fine adn as people come to grips with distance to spread, guns find their niche…But the plasma carbine and pistol projectile move too slow for the overall pace of spartans. I try my damnist to use the carbine but the friggin projectiles feel like im unleashing blue snails on the enemies

I have spent my time across both XSX and PC. I have very much enjoyed the sandbox. When matchmaking is down during the flight I end up watching the clock waiting for it to come back up. I have missed that feeling.

My critiques:
The Sidekick. Above and beyond my biggest critique. I am physically incapable of firing the sidekick at the max rate of fire on controller, even worse without an Elite or another controller without trigger stops. My rate of fire with a mouse on PC is significantly faster. I am befuddled at how large of a departure it is from the staple pacing/aiming of Halo weapons and think it’s the wrong direction to creating skill gaps. Precision does not win nearly enough and I’m already tired of the cramped hands.
After running into high end M+K players capable of winning near every encounter by achieving a higher rate of fire, gunfights feel like an exaggerated version of off-host vanilla Reach DMRs w/ full bloom. I sincerely hope it’s changed to a slower rate of fire. I loved Halo 5’s pistol, thought it was near perfect - this is the opposite feeling for me. High-end ranked games are going to feel like swimming upstream.

No more Red v Blue. Certain armor sets pop differently on the map. I’m shooting at friendlies if they have colors similar to my outlines. I’m not shooting at enemies if they have colors similar to my squad outlines. There have been a couple occasions where the outlines don’t seem to display on enemy players as they enter a room.

The AR. Much more minor of a complaint - the AR feels a bit too strong at too long of a range. I will always be of the camp that a perfect pistol/BR should beat an AR at any range.

Only issue I had so far is getting knocked out by players using melee before switching to secondary and using melee again. Causing melee attacks to be way faster than normal

Love the weapon Sandbox. It feels extremely balanced. Love how many weapons are effective and still feel completely fair. I’m finding myself second guessing what weapons I want based on the flow of the game rather than just knowing because 2 weapons dominate the rest. The more I play, the more I love the AR and Sidekick pairing for social.

I do hope competitive uses BR starts, would be good for the modes to feel different.

We must be able to turn off all crossplay across the border, I don’t want to play with PC players regardless of what you guys want.
I just want to go to settings and just hit one button and say crossplay off on everything, all of it, including social and competitive matches.

Also, I want to pick the game mode I WANT TO PLAY, not throw a bunch of mode in a BTB that I don’t want.

arena plays well, but the main thing i personally really dont like is how the weapon layouts change and have variants.

i get it, 343 wants there to be variety, but i prefer consistancy within the same maps

<p>GAMEPLAY:</p>
<p>- The assault rifle. What the heck. Why am I losing a range fight against assault rifle when I have pistol? I understand that you guys wanted to beef down the pistol dependency from Halo 5 but assault rifle should NOT be like this. You guys have had Halo for 3 games already and it did fine in Halo 4 and 5, why did you take a step backwards?</p>
<p>- Motion Tracker? Why the hell do we even have it? By the time I see someone on my radar, they’re literally in assassination distance and there’s zero point.</p>
<p>- Power weapon timers? We don’t need that -Yoink-. Seriously, get rid of it. We’ll be fine without it. Don’t be stupid.</p>
<p>- Drop shield is literally useless. Either beef it up or get rid of it. it takes too long to drop it so if I need it in a hurry, I’m probably already dead because it didn’t come out in time and even if i did get it out in time, it can take like 3 rounds before it gives.</p>
<p>- Melee distancing is weird. You guys shortened it way too much compared to other Halo games. It doesn’t make any sense.</p>
<p>- You guys took away the ability to use the pistol while carrying the flag. Who is the idiot that thought taking away one hit melee flag kills was a good idea? Flag carriers are already the most vulnerable. You guys are stupid.</p>

<p>ACTUAL GAME STUFF:</p>
<p>- What is the purpose of making the completion of challenges the only option for leveling up? Seriously? All that’s going to do is make me play only for the daily challenges and then log off. Points scoring is silly because it doesn’t even matter. There’s no motivation. Why the -Yoink- is this even a good idea? Jesus, 343. Do better.</p>
<p>- The armor customization is good. I like it WAY more than Halo 5. But the colors? Why can’t I be a purple spartan with different accent? Why am I limited to being an unchangeable color palette? Maybe I don’t wanna be black with a red arm? Maybe i wanna be purple with an orange arm? or Blue with a white arm? The palette’s are fine but at least let us customize the colors of the palette.</p>

i like it but it doesnt really feel like social more like competitive

There is way too much chatter in the match, every 10 seconds someone is saying something. please tone it down or just put information in the unused HUD space(also put grenades on top of the hud, its extremely challenging to quickly glance down to see what grenades you have) instead of having an announcer for everything. The voice lines aren’t bad but they get repeated so often that it sounds very similar very fast and I’ve only been playing for a few days. Just adding the option to turn it off isn’t enough because many players first experience with the game matters and they will get a bad impression before they find the setting to turn it off.

In the final game there HAS to be a system like mcc where you can choose what gamemode to play and not just BTB or SLAYER because a huge portion of players just want to play slayer and being forced to run objective modes means that 50% or more of their playtime will be in a mode they have no interest in. I’m assuming you are going to do this already but in case you weren’t, its absolutely a requirement and will turn many potential players away from enjoying the game or wanting to play at all.

I like the weapon balance overall, but please for the love of god take bloom off the sniper. the sniper is already a hard enough weapon to use there is no reason it needs bloom. At the very least keep it so that switching weapons back and forth resets the bloom.

Please bring back blue/cyan colour reticule or put the colour in the accessibility settings tab

The sound for halfway to victory/defeat is blaring and takes me out of the experience. At times its hard to find enemies it feels like, that might be do to the changes to minimap dots. The matches sound extremely quiet, no gun fire just announcers blurbing out stuff. When they blurb out info it honestly just annoys me, especially when the rest of the game sounds so quiet. The maps arent bad, nor horrible. But, they dont feel like they flow like a halo map. They feel just slightly off, like they need something. Hopefully there is some maps like Orbital, Guardian, and the best one Blackout in this game. If not, the games gonna feel awkward. Everything just feels off and overtime playing. It kinda pisses me off, like something nagging in the back of my head.

PC player here, playing on mouse and keyboard. I have to say that while I would say I’m generally enjoying myself, I do have some pretty significant issues with the overall shooter experience. To start, strafe speed is too fast. Not that your character literally moves too quickly, but the fact there is little to no loss of momentum when changing directions mid strafe. This makes player movement incredibly erratic and difficult to hit consistently on mouse-and-keyboard. This plays a role in another big issue, the dominance of controllers vs mouse-and-keyboard in most gunfights. There are definitely instances where M&K has a distinct advantage over controller (like at long ranges where aim-assist doesn’t work). However the reality is that most gunfights are going to take place within red-reticle-range. Where controller has the most aim-assist which makes a lot of the quick movements one can perform, relatively easy to deal with. So controller players are able to make movements that are difficult for a M&K player to deal with, whilst also hitting shots easier on a player moving in the same way. Another glaring issue is the lack of a visible red reticle on most weapons. This has an effect not only for controller players but M&K players as well. The problem here is the inability to accurately gauge whether you are within range to use your current weapon effectively. For M&K players this means you have to guess whether bullet magnetism is going to work, and controller players have to guess whether they are going to receive aim-assist. So people are going about using weapons at ranges they aren’t designed for, where aim-assist and bullet magnetism don’t work and wondering why they can’t hit anything!
