Infinite Tech Preview – Social Arena

I played a few games and had a fun time. The only bug I experienced was when I was playing social area. The bug was when I died, half of my body went under the map.

How much people get to play the inside beta

Sniper is not consistent and/or accurate when firing from the hip.
Sniper bloom seems very slow and totally unusable before bloom completely resets.
Plasma grenades seem very heavy and slow. Also throw distance I think could be increased.
Game feels really good for the most part and am having alot of fun, appreciate all the hard work 343 fam!

From Xbox One and Series X

Trying to highlight some things I haven’t seen too many other people mention.

Controls:
The default settings for controllers are terrible. The deadzone setting and acceleration is so far off from what previous Halo titles were like that the game felt unplayable. Customizing the settings completely fixes this. However, the initial feeling may cause people to just not play. I had to explain the steps to a friend of mine. Shouldn’t need a step by step guide to get this controls to feel like they should at a default setting.

Very much enjoy the ability to completely customize controller layout.

Gameplay:

  • For a game with sprint, the motion tracker needs to be 25 meters. The setting at 18 meters feels almost useless at times. - Active camo is WAY too active. A player with active camo is completely invisible if crouching or not moving. There needs to be just a touch more of a distortion to their character model. - The AR range is a bit overpowered. I like that it’s useful, but it feels a bit too useful. - The gravity hammer range seems a touch excessive. It almost too easy to clear a room with that thing. - Grenade spam is at an all time high. I have never seen so many grenades get thrown in a match of Halo. - I’d like to see a bit more weapon diversity on each map. Not sure if this is because there’s just a limited amount of weapons in this test, but the maps just feel a bit bare in terms of weapon options. - When an enemy player is backed up too close to a wall, if you place your reticle on the wall, over where that enemy is, you can see a red outline through the wall; giving the players location away.

THIS, but most important for me:
“Grenade spam is at an all time high. I have never seen so many grenades get thrown in a match of Halo.”
Add the fact that there is no friendly fire or collisions in the tech and as a result some matches become a grenade fest. I hope they add them in the final version.

PD: Looking good in general.

I’m very happy to be participating again, thank you very much 343 for inviting me. Well the game has progressed a lot, there are fewer errors and fewer bugs but obviously I think that everyone has already commented on it, about being able to punch non-stop, not counting that the truth is that I find that the game is quite good so my feedback this time is more dedicated to technical aspects that I dislike a bit. First to say that he said this with all the respect in the world, I hope no one is offended because I know that they work a lot in the game. Well as I said in the first technical test I did not realize this but then I compared it with Halo 5 and I dislike the sounds of the game when it kills someone or when they kill you I feel that it is very noisy but it can only be my perception, in Halo 5 There was a sound when you did a headshot and it was satisfying to hear, but the infinite one is a bit tiring after listening to it repeatedly, from my point of view I think the sound should be cleaner to make it feel satisfying like Halo 5 but I repeat this is just my opinion from my perception. And in the other sounds as in strongholds, I really liked the sound effects very good and the gameplay very fun, also to mention that that little detail that the first zone is already captured seems great to me. But I was surprised by the failure of the announcer to say “TOTAL CONTROL” I do not know why they removed that but it is necessary. In capture the flag I had a lot of fun, but I noticed a little badly distributed the spawn points in the bazaar, sometimes it appeared in the middle of the map and there was someone there with a battle rifle and it killed me instantly and also that the spawn points next to it Of the flag are very uncovered and many times they made me kill spwan from the middle of the map. As for the sound 2 things, 1 the sound that sounds when the flag is stolen is a bit annoying and 2 as in srongholds I miss the “Flag taken Flag drop Flag taken Flag Drop” I mean the sound because the action is can do but I miss the announcer saying that, it was funny and classic. And well that would be all I hope not to offend anyone and if I did sorry.
Thank you again 343 for this opportunity
God bless you enormously, bye

I still haven’t been able to load a multiplayer game (the longest I’ve waited is 35 minutes) but a few times I’ve given up and just gone into the training area, and each time I have to manually reassign the switch weapon button in the control settings because the button assignment is empty. Probably the same in multiplayer (wish I could find out…); just go into control options and scroll down until you find the “swap weapons” function, and manually assign a button to it.

We can detect enemies hiding beside a thin wall and a thin object. Their UI color highlights can penetrate through them. Please fix it.

> Positives
> 1) thank you for adding a timer to searching for a matching making game screen. Halo 5 I would sit for 30 minutes and never find a match. Its nice to know if your wait time is 30 minutes and you can just switch playlist.
> 2) I feel like the game balances are right for removing thruster pack from the game. Sprint speed feels just right.
> 3) I love that you can now get your shield back while sprinting. So many times in halo 5 I was 1ms away from shield recharging and accidentally pressed sprint.
> 4) The Spartan Training academy is perfect. This is a fantastic feature to warm up for the game. It would be nice to throw in FFA in though.
> 5) Battle riffle is perfect.
> 6) The maps play perfectly, they have a great balance between the sides with short and long firing ranges.
>
> Cons
> 1) Skill based match making needs to be turned way down. I’ve lost 20 games in a row and the 21st game literally Frosty was on the other team and destroyed us all.
> 2) huge changes in the pistol. This is way too drastic coming from halo 5. I understand the bloom and timing with the shots but the thing I struggle with is the range of the pistol. You have zero chance of hitting someone long range with the pistol and it is only useful mid to short range. However people are not using pistol at all at these ranges since the AR kills much easier.
> 3) There currently is not a stat window to see your accounts overall kills and deaths. Im assuming this will be added post beta?
> 4) Weekly challenges are extremely difficult to achieve (especially for high level player with Skill based match making the way it is). I personally just had to keep switching until I got win 3 games.
> 5) post game stats menu is gone. You can only see your own personal stats or one person at a times stats.
> 6) Its very frustrating not have a long range weapon off the spawn. With the current state of the pistol if you are not the luck one on your team to grab the BR you stand no chance killing anyone long range and its easy to get pinned down when the enemy team has BRs against your starting pistol.
> 7) In general the lack of aim assist is brutal. Even watching extremely good streamers they seem to be struggling with this.
>
> Glitchy Items to Fix
> 1) I completed the CAPSTONE challenge but it did not unlock anything new like it said it would.
> 2) Bots will get stuck every once in a while on a random location.
> 3) Firing Range has some score glitches with some of the weapons.
> 4) Experiencing lots of lag during games, My spartan will glitch around and randomly die.

Where is the timer for matchmaking? I’ve been trying for hours, on multiple consoles, and when I click “multiplayer” it just shows the flickering UNSC logo endlessly. I’m not 100% certain my invitation to this preview is valid…

I keep reading all these players complaining about BxB and double melee like they canʻt do it themselves. SMH, if you know it exists use it. Who wants to have close combat stuck in an animation when you can cancel it and react in real time? Donʻt patch it, add BxR too.

Can you add rumble pit to these flights? The spawns feel like they are designed for rumble not team slayer. Very small chaotic gameplay for team slayer with players constantly spawning behind each other.

Audio
I put audio first here, as it seems to harbor most of my issues with overall experience.
Not enough directional audio cues, hit-feedback, or distance – it’s difficult to hear where I’m getting shot from, if I’m being shot, or how far away they are. This can also be helped with visual -Yoink!-.

Visual
More visual damage cues need to be made – the edge of your screen should have a brighter red hue when you are shot. Other spartan shields should show a range of shield scramble that helps a player know if their opponent is about to have their shields break. Halo 3 and others handled this by adding a different color of hue to the shield as it became more damaged, gaining a yellow coloring. I’m finding it hard to tell how damaged someone is, including myself. This would improve the gameplay by allowing you to gauge how well you’re doing in a firefight.

Weapons
The game can be massively improved by reeling back on the number of grenades, adding more map symmetry, and increasing damage from weapons – we want quality, not quantity. More shots and more grenades doesn’t add to the experience. I’m not saying to go Call of Duty instant kills, but if you adjust hit-scan or damage, it would improve firefights.

Gameplay
Movement is still a bit clunky and, jumping from boxes to ledges and so on, feels like I’m just barely clearing it. Made worse by the fact that clambering doesn’t always work. Gunfights feel good but they don’t feel controllable because map awareness is hampered by poor audio, damage cues and underpowered weapons. It’s definitely Halo still, but it comes off as a weaker less refined cousin of Halo 4 more than the fan favorites Halo 3 and Halo 2 Anniversary.

Gameplay feedback (tested flight on PC, using controller)

  • Controller has no aim assist, which makes it pretty difficult to aim most weapons
  • Sidekick is fun, it feels like a little peashooter that makes sense in most close combat situations, but maybe it needs to be a little less powered over longer ranges
  • AR feels too overpowered at range, it makes little sense to pick up the BR/commando because of that - expanding on this, commando feels like it’s in no-mans land with the utility of the current pistol + AR, BR feels alot more balanced and usable
  • Radar feels tight; I think with the fast movement speeds of this game it needs to be spaced out a little for it to fulfil its function
  • Grenades feel balanced to me, and are massively fun to use - just wish there was an easier way to cycle through them easily on controller (how about sticking to MCC layout using the left/right dpad?)
  • Gravity hammer feels more like a large sledgehammer - where are the flying bodies!?! I like the heftiness of it, high risk - high reward element but the outcome feels a little odd
  • Love the maps and the variations of movements it brings to the table - i’m looking forward to the others you have in store for us!

Overall, I think this is a solid game that will cater to both casual and competitive players, and I’m looking forward to the release in december!!

First of all I have to say that after playing some social matchmaking I‘m even more excited for the whole game!

Playing on Xbox One doesn‘t feel smooth at all while turning the view and running, feels like framerate is not adjust well.

For me it seems very difficult landing good shots with the pistol and partly with the VK88 Commando. The pistol is really annoying and I never had problems with this weapon in any other Halo Game. The BR for example works completely different / way better feeling in landing shots.

Buff flag melee pls. Needs to be a 1 hit like in literally every other Halo

Absolutely love this game.
Pro: Enjoy that we can use our individual armor colors even in red vs blue. In prior halos it never felt like i saw my standalone design.
Con: Wish we had more control over the colors. I don’t enjoy being locked into color presets for the entire armor. i want to feel like my spartan is my canvas and not run into 100 just like him. There is only so many armor choices but colors combinations shouldnt be a limiting factor.

Pro: maps are incredible. Love the atmosphere and cant wait to see what else the team has created. love the wildlife and the background noise
Con: keep the chickens… greatest addition yet. make sure they have some AI. right now they run into the nearest wall and keep running with sheer determination to make it through that wall.
Pro: love the way the armory and the weapons bench looks. Definitely feels like i am controlling my own spartan and weapons. (i hope to see the ability to add attachments to our weapons. Unlocks and mods… Just please no charms…
Con: concerned with how the armors will turn out. I prefer the gritty halo look in reach. Halo 5 was frustrating (grinding hours only to unlock the same three helmets with different patterns), Even the halo 5 armors lost that spartan look imo. the armor had a more covenant look to them than spartans. But my biggest concern is that infinity will turn from gritty super soldiers to cartoon/anime.

on Friday’s flight the prematch intro did a cool thing where after showing your squad it was then zoom in to your character before going first person. This feature then disappeared on Saturday. How come? that was such a cool feature. I hope to see that return for launch.

Please remove sbmm, it belongs in ranked but not social arena or btb.

> 1. BxB.
> If this is a bug, then I’ll let it slide, but if this was intentional, it needs to be retuned or removed before next weekend or the next flight. It’s unbelievably unfair to be essentially 1 hit melee’d the second you come into a close quarters combat fight with them.

BXB adds depth and skill to the gameplay. I love it. Plus it’s so easy that anyone can do it so I don’t understand what you’re complaining about

Sometimes when I climb a ledge it teleports me off, as if I never tried to climb. It happens to me mostly in the Bazaar map, climbing the small ledges on the Rocket side of the map.

I fully agree with you. When I died it was very difficult to join my teammates without being killed again and again.
Spawn must be fixed
