Infinite Tech Preview – Social Arena

> Can you please change the radar back to sprint and shooting only. I don’t want to have to crouch walk in order to stay off radar, especially with camo it doesn’t make sense with how fast paced the game is. My friends and I all agree that it is better than an always on radar.

> Bring back Tech preview Radar. You guys were onto something amazing with the radar and it’s sad that it’s been changed after only 2 hrs of PvP playtime in the last flight. At least give it a proper chance.

> The return to a full motion tracker has severely damaged the flow of combat and map movement compared to the combat sensor in the first flight.

I just wish 343 had given the combat sensor a genuine chance and actually tried to explain to people why it is an improvement over the old motion sensor. I understand the classic halo feel is crouching around the map staying undetected and whilst I still enjoy that mechanic it really does encourage camping and slows the pace of games down.

I notice lots of folks in here still having issues with the radar following the recent changes, and lots of folks in here mourning the flight1 sensor too. It seems to me that few people are entirely happy with the radar yet. People that liked the flight1 combat sensor are upset about losing its gameplay benefits, people that wanted the motion tracker back for flight2 are now upset about the resulting low range implemented in order to balance its return. The drastic swinging back and forth has not yet landed somewhere comfortable for a lot of players, and I hope 343 folks consider a more nuanced approach.

I say, give everyone a little something. Expand the range a whole bunch (25-30m), but take walking off pingable actions again. Then add jumping/clamber/melee to the list of pingable actions so that it’s active much more frequently than the first flight’s. Maybe make the dot linger for an extra beat following a pingable action. And add more clear elevation cues.

Basically give it a buff in every category except for removing walking off activation. Give players room to breath and move around the map again at normal speeds if they choose without getting instantly dogpiled, making camping and red dot corner nade spam less viable, while also supplying more detailed and far-reaching information for an expanded list of activities that ping it, with a dot that lingers slightly longer once activated. Sort of a… Combat Sensor Plus.(Plus that gives non-sprint walking a reason to exist again rather than flight2’s perma-sprint that made gameplay a bit more frantic. I think the hectic speed ended up stressing some players out this past weekend.)

Nobody much likes crouchwalking anyway, and I did always like radar baiting people with short hops! Let’s get the best of both worlds.

What if it was something like this for the next flight? Potential examples/comparisons:

  • 1st Flight: Combat Sensor (Sprint/Shoot/20m) - 2nd Flight: Motion Tracker (All movement/Shoot/18m) - 3rd Flight?: Combat Sensor Plus (Sprint/Shoot/Jump/Melee/Linger/25m)

> I think pistols are ruined
> no longer good whatsoever
> clip after clip no damage long range
> would like a buff on these as its making whoever has br destroy

Well RL pistols dont have range so…

Positives

  1. thank you for adding a timer to searching for a matching making game screen. Halo 5 I would sit for 30 minutes and never find a match. Its nice to know if your wait time is 30 minutes and you can just switch playlist.
  2. I feel like the game balances are right for removing thruster pack from the game. Sprint speed feels just right.
  3. I love that you can now get your shield back while sprinting. So many times in halo 5 I was 1ms away from shield recharging and accidentally pressed sprint.
  4. The Spartan Training academy is perfect. This is a fantastic feature to warm up for the game. It would be nice to throw in FFA in though.
  5. Battle riffle is perfect.
  6. The maps play perfectly, they have a great balance between the sides with short and long firing ranges.

Cons

  1. Skill based match making needs to be turned way down. I’ve lost 20 games in a row and the 21st game literally Frosty was on the other team and destroyed us all.
  2. huge changes in the pistol. This is way too drastic coming from halo 5. I understand the bloom and timing with the shots but the thing I struggle with is the range of the pistol. You have zero chance of hitting someone long range with the pistol and it is only useful mid to short range. However people are not using pistol at all at these ranges since the AR kills much easier.
  3. There currently is not a stat window to see your accounts overall kills and deaths. Im assuming this will be added post beta?
  4. Weekly challenges are extremely difficult to achieve (especially for high level player with Skill based match making the way it is). I personally just had to keep switching until I got win 3 games.
  5. post game stats menu is gone. You can only see your own personal stats or one person at a times stats.
  6. Its very frustrating not have a long range weapon off the spawn. With the current state of the pistol if you are not the luck one on your team to grab the BR you stand no chance killing anyone long range and its easy to get pinned down when the enemy team has BRs against your starting pistol.
  7. In general the lack of aim assist is brutal. Even watching extremely good streamers they seem to be struggling with this.

Glitchy Items to Fix

  1. I completed the CAPSTONE challenge but it did not unlock anything new like it said it would.
  2. Bots will get stuck every once in a while on a random location.
  3. Firing Range has some score glitches with some of the weapons.
  4. Experiencing lots of lag during games, My spartan will glitch around and randomly die.

Okay so here are my takeaways so far:

  • the pistol starts just don’t work, they basically make the BR into a power weapon. PLEASE HAVE BR STARTS IN BTB?! I shouldn’t have to ask. - the aim assist is so strong when you’re aiming at someone but too low when trying to attach your aimer onto someone. - radar is useless when the radius is so small, you’re getting shot way before they even appear on the radar. - if you’re in the UK playing against US it’s very obvious your shots do little damage & there’s a lot of teleporting too. - I hate to say it but getting rid of sprint and increasing movement speed a bit would just simplify things overall.Rant complete  …for now.

Good evening to all I am currently and it since more 1h30 to join a part and I can because its research constantly but nothing, whereas yesterday even I could play in the beta 4 vs 4 and no worries at the levels of the research .

I also cannot change weapons in any game mode??? HELP!!!

Keybinds got messed up, I think something to do with settings carrying over from the last flight and not translating properly.
Go into your controller settings, switch it to another control scheme, then back to default (or whatever your preferred method is).
That will clear it out. Once you do that, it should be fine.

So my experience so far. I’ve had a couple glitches such as dead bodies spinning in circles and menu glitches when existing post match summaries but in terms of gameplay there are some things I think need changing. Base speed is too fast makes strafing far too powerful and makes the gameplay feel more cod like than halo Spartan power armour like this also makes using snipers, skewers and brs harder to use since people are always moving so fast. So a slight decrease in base speed id say needs to change so that it feels slightly slower. Secondly TTK is sooo fast. When u get three players coming round a corner to get u there is no way to escape or get away you’re just stuck and body shots do so much damage that you will die almost certainly with no way of out aiming someone who gets the jump on u. Moreover, the guns feel too balanced. That sounds weird but someone could easily beat you out with a assault rifle speed wise even if you’re using a sniper as a double body shot the ar beats u out and makes other guns seem obsolete and power weapons honestly not that useful to get ahold of on the map. This is an issue with all the weapons as the ar basically beats out all of the weapons not rlly motivating u to go and pick up any map weapon since it’s pointless. Another issue is grenade spam. The way people spam grenades especially when in a group makes it feel like there’s a Airstrike coming down and sort of stunts the fight as you’re just sitting there waiting or a bunch of small explosions end up killing u which is annoying. I think the cook time on grenades needs to be increased on plasma and frag since they do the biggest splash damage and their quick cook speed makes them feel more like tactical equipments in how they deploy rather than lethal. Other than all of that I’m loving it and think with a small few changes it could rlly be the best halo ever to grace this planet.

Game is amazing, 343. Evolving from the Halo 3 formula with modern twists is exactly what Halo needed.

I’ve had a huge gripe with almost every single Halo game ever but my gripes with this game are all small.

  1. Weapon balance. It’s really good right now. Some tuning on a few weapons should happen though.

AR: it has perfect damage, range, and spread. This issue is that the magazine size makes it a little too forgiving. I believe lowering the magazine size to 32 will keep it just as viable but prevent holding the trigger from being able to kill someone at medium range. At anything other than close range, burst firing should be rewarded.

Sniper Rifle: this thing is really difficult to use. It shouldn’t be easy, and I appreciate it being more difficult to use than previous games, but it is really tough, even for semi-pro players. I reccomend inceasing reticule size to Halo 5 size and slightly increasing aim assist when scoping in.

Skewer: same issue as the sniper rifle. It’s too difficult to aim. Fix the same way too.

Ravager: great weapon but the charge up feature is underwhelming. I think the flames on the ground should last 2x to 3x as long. The flames don’t really do a lot of damage but maybe if the duration was longer, it would have a greater effect.

Pulse Carbine: This weapon seemed so promising during weapon drills but when used against real players, the tracking seems very week and only soneof the shots from the burst end up landing. I think the tracking feature should be amped up a little bit to be similar to the suppressor from Halo 5.

Heatwave: this weapon is also a little underwhelming. Bouncing is a cool feature but not really useful considering the weapon is a 3+ shot kill unless you hit two vertical shots directly on someone. I think if you made the bounce more powerful, where a ricochet shot does 100% more damage, it would be more interesting. People would then have to use the richochet feature to maximize the gun, which would be awesome. If that’s not an option, increase the fire rate by 10-15%.

Plasma Pistol: nearly perfect as is but the charge shot occasionally has hit registration issues. I’ve clearly hit somebody, gotten the whole shield’s dropped animation, and the person still had full shields. No, they did not have Overshield (pp only drains the Overshield, not regular shields as well)

The rest of the weapons are all fine.

  1. UI. Buggy, glitchy, but honestly a little complicated. Backing out of a lobby full of friends is ridiculously complicated. You used to have to press b then confirm that you are leaving. Also, equipping new armor takes 3 buttons. I just want to highlight something I like and press a to equip like in previous games.

  2. Customization: please let the default colors be unlocked for everyone. Also, bring back the emblem maker with all the old emblems from previous games. But let new emblems but unlockable in the battle pass.

  3. Music. Amazing. Superb.

That’s pretty much the gist of my feedback. All the things I didn’t address, I really like.

I think this has the potential to be the best Halo game since 3. Having these tests and all the transparency really increases my trust and hype for this game. DICE could really learn a thing or two from you guys with community interaction…

Here’s a list of my issues:

Needs a better carnage report with more information

Hard to tell how well I’m doin in games (I’ve gone 22k 8d with no clue and vice versa)

Radar radius too small

Flag is not a 1 hit kill

Melee feels really off

Flag juggling doesn’t seem to help with speed and we need the announcer to say flag dropped and flag taken

Experience sucks for playing individual games

Random weapon and equipment spawns

Stop phasing through players. It’s so stupid

> I say, give everyone a little something. Expand the range a bunch like some are asking for, but take walking off pingable actions again. Then add jumping/clamber to pingable actions. Maybe make the dot linger for an extra beat following a pingable action. And add more clear elevation cues.

As someone that preferred the flight 1 radar, I’d be happy with this

so a few major issues so far. I’ll start with some good. The game feels great, sounds great and looks great. The major issues come in the form of easily fixable changes and i really hope you do. Firstly being able to walk through teammates and enemies is bad. not having collision with teammates removes so many fun moments and possibilities especially in customs. Not being able to collide with enemies has resulted in so many situations already where I lose track of an enemy in front of me because they just ran through me, turn around and hit me from behind or the side. It’s disrupting the flow of the game, please add collision back. Another issue I have is the lack of friendly fire, it’s causing a lot of grenade spam. but that’s more of a nitpick. My biggest issue by far is the xp system. I posted a thread elsewhere but I’ll copy and paste it here for more direct feedback

I know this has been addressed many times but 343 seems insistent on the battle pass being enough. I gave it a shot going into the beta and I disagree, and I feel the vast majority of the community does as well. The game is very fun, that’s the most important aspect of any game obviously. It feels good to play, but once that magic slows down what will be your incentive to keep playing? the battle pass. alright so you decide to grind the battle pass but each challenge only gives you a small amount of xp per game and maybe the things in the battle pass don’t interest you that much. alright whats my next option? I guess I go to ranked, well maybe I’m not feeling like playing ranked and I just want to have fun and be rewarded for having fun. What next? nothing. There is no basic reward for just playing the game the way you want to be playing it. There NEEDS to be a consistent XP drip per match that is unrelated to the battle pass. When I play a game I want to feel like I’m rewarded for doing better than the rest, to have incentive to outplay my friends and the other team. I want to know that I got more xp with 20 kills and 10 assists than the guy who got 5 kills and 1 assist. I want my time to be rewarded with a presentable rank/number that is shown to other players in an obvious way. I want my time to be respected. The battle pass system is fine, ranked modes are fine, but there NEEDS to be a normal xp grind system that rewards you for kills, assists, objectives and medals (the more difficult the medal the more xp) so that the player doesn’t feel like their time is being wasted. Take a game like Apex Legends for example. They have a battle pass system, daily and weekly challenges that keep the player paying attention in the hopes that they can earn points towards the pass. They have ranked modes and free battle pass items for those who want to play. But, on top of this they have a normal leveling xp based system, so if the player isn’t able to get a daily or weekly challenge in a match, they are instead rewarded for how well they played. And if they do get a challenge, they are still rewarded for how well they played on top of the challenges towards the battle pass. This keeps the player feeling like their time is being respected, that they have a level to show for their efforts, and that they get rewards on the side for that effort as well. Halo infinite’s normal xp and leveling system doesn’t have to be anything crazy. If its just an armor core every 5 levels or something that would be fine, and just have it be 152 levels again like halo 5 whatever you want to do. But as the system is right now, it is not rewarding to do well in this game.To summarize, Halo Infinite’s current xp system centered entirely around the battle pass is not rewarding. It does not reward the player for doing well, doing better than the rest, doing things above what is to be expected, or even just having fun. There is nothing wrong with the battle pass as is, but there needs to be a normal xp progression system separate from the pass that rewards players based on the usual parameters, that being kills, assists, medals and objectives. Just borrow from previous halo games, there is no need fix what isn’t broken. The battle pass is fine, the ranked modes are fine, but reward the player with a level and a number/emblem whatever, based around game to game accomplishments outside of the battle pass, with a satisfying amount of xp, that ticks upwards over time adding to the grind factor of it, with potentially occasional rewards for hitting certain milestones, so that the players time, skill and play style are respected. Please 343, this is a bigger issue than you seem to think it is. The game is fantastic so far, don’t let something so simple hold it back.

Is there a way to turn off cross play for the love of god, sick of being forced to play with PC players, I can turn it off in MCC so I hope the Full release allows for that function

I only have one thing to say, but where are the different assassinations? why remove them? since the halo reach it is there on the contrary it is necessary to leave them.

Grenade spam is atrocious this time around, the pistol seems to be the primary weapon for most people and the AR the secondary, when the pistol is supposed to be an actual secondary, something to swap too when the ar runs out, but its beating the commando and BR at range, AA for console needs to be increased cause it feels nonexistent. another huge thing melee lunch seems almost nonexistent as well

Does anyone know how to get the code to play would be very appreciated.

> I only have one thing to say, but where are the different assassinations? why remove them? since the halo reach it is there on the contrary it is necessary to leave them.

not in game at launch but will be after launch

  • Radar range seems a bit short, that’s my only complaint about it. I feel as though I have to be right on top of someone for them to ping. Extending that range would help all not get trapped by an entire team while yours is on the other side of the map in lala land. - The Commando is pretty underwhelming. The AR and BR outperform the Commando in every encounter i’ve been in (on both sides of the coin). The Flight maps are small enough where a range buff wouldn’t do much, so I honestly think it needs a slight damage buff to even have a place among the other weapons. - I’ve noticed the Gravity Hammer has no “lunge” action like in previous titles. Again, this only concerns me about balancing with the Energy Sword for the most important gametype, Griffball.

Is it just me who feels like the aiming and everything on console feels totally off, like it’s a bad port?

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever played an FPS on console that feels this awkward and weird. Maybe it’s just me but it’s throwing me off hard.

By the way if it won’t let you switch weapons you need to go into the controller settings and manually set the swap button weapon to Y. It says it’s Y on the diagram but it’s not actually set by default for some reason (or wasn’t for me, in any case, and I’ve seen people mention having the same issue)

almost all social matches for me have been heavily one side. also can we get a leaver report system or surrender system ive played 2 games in a row with no team mates due to a score difference of 5-25 in slayer. so far social has been death timer counting for me. some one earlier mentioned spawn system and i have noticed ive been spawn killed a lot or i spawn with enemies right behind me. most encounters are just getting shot in the back shortly after spawn. never have been a pvp halo fan but this still feels ridiculous in player skill gaps.
