Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Technical Preview Notes

PC Specs: RTX 2080ti, 64gb DDR4 RAM, Intel i9 9900K CPU and Samsung M2 SSD

  • Had one game where i joined in progress, but then the audio was bugged. All of the player noises (grunts, moans etc), voice lines and announcer were normal volume but everything else was really quiet making all the player noises seem really loud. Carried on for the entire game and then next game was fine.
  • Follow up , all none player audio went really quiet again when joining a game in progress. Seems to happen only when join games in progress, for that entire game.
  • Follow up again, was able to get it recorded this time. Recorded gameplay in 4K but video was compressed to 1080p hence the not so great quality. Have uploaded it to youTube on my channel (DeafoDeano) Timestamped link here: https://youtu.be/uBwYkwl6XM0?t=1945 or if cant access link the time of the dodgy audio game starting is 32:25, i shoot as soon as i get in game. in comparision to previous games the audio isnt working properly.
  • Had another game but it crashed halfway through when i pressed the Alt key, even thiough i had pressed Alt - Tab multiple times before this with no issues.
  • The UI dissapeared on me in game, only had a kill award stuck on my screen for the remainder off my game. Was just after i went into steam overlay so that may be the cause
  • Doesnt run a full steady 60fps on my system, average id say is about low to mid 50s , did drop to in the 40s often. Didnt notice any jolts or screen tears etc. All settings set to high/ultra (standard settings the game had when launched) - Also has minimum and maximum fps set to 60
  • Follow up from previous point when i changed minimum fps to off, the fps drops to in the high 20s and low 30s on average.
  • Few little UI bugs in main menu such as parts disapearing or flickering on and off, sometimes flickering purple
  • Customisation menu is a bit buggy, sometimes wont show you right colors when slecting them
  • Changing weapons via scroll wheel is a bit iffy, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt . Seems to get halfway through putting your weapon away to switch but ends up bringing back out the same gun
  • Announcer says halfway to victory when score hits 24, shouldnt this be 25?
  • Better optimisation is needed for PC , especailly if at times im struggling to run it, older and lower end PCs may have a hard time running the game smoothly
  • Bots are good, a little touch up and i think they will be excellent
  • Overall feel is good on PC, was a bit worried about it being a bad console port but no it aint too bad, some more touch ups and optimisation and we should be good.

First day ran smooth as butter. Second day stutter galore. But after the second day became buttery smooth again.

PC: i7 - 10th
RTX 3070
32 Gb RAM

@1440p ULTRA settings I was at 70-75 fps @1080 LOW settings I was at 110- 125 fps

CHAT BOX ON PC…when a new message appears…it should show the bottom most recent message, but it doesn’t. When new message is received it will only show the TOP OF THE CHAT, and would need to scroll down to bottom of chat during gameplay just to see the recent message. The chat box need to show bottom of chat when message is received.

I played in the PC flight, I posted some of my feedback in the other dedicated feedback threads, but I’m not totally sure where to post the rest of this as it’s mostly general feedback.

  • As far as performance goes: I have an I9 Intel CPU and a RTX 2080 Super and yet I was struggling to maintain an FPS above 100 even on the lowest settings, I feel like this game could do for some more optimization or something, I would have posted this in a support ticket but the Insider support site is closed. - Aim assist does not feel strong enough on controllers and gunfights can be uncomfortable, especially compared to legacy Halo experiences. Shooting in Halo is supposed to feel satisfying in my opinion, Halo 1-3 and Reach all had strong aim assist and those games feel really good on controller, I strongly prefer comfortable shooting over an increased aim skill gap. - This game needs Input Based Matchmaking, I can understand the value in crossplay, but right now I am thinking this game is going to be very unfun against Keyboard & Mouse users, I have a lot of experience using both inputs, and though I prefer playing Halo with a controller, there is no doubt that aiming with a mouse is simply more precise, and making controller players play against KBM players is unfair, MCC had this problem after crossplay was added and it was rough for both groups of players, Input Based Matchmaking wasn’t added for months but by then a lot of people had already left, please have input based matchmaking added at launch so we do not see a repeat of that. - Coatings feel very restrictive, and it feels like I’ve lost much more freedom than I’ve gained, I don’t want to have to wait on your artists to produce the color scheme I want, this system is really close to being something I would like though, I just think you should give the player more freedom over the color selection of coatings, for example being able to change the red arm on scorpion punch to a different color, or for coatings that only have a two or three colors, being able to change those. - Emblem customization seems like a huge leap backwards. I’m not sure if what we saw for emblem customization was final, but I customized mine in the beta Waypoint app and it appeared to be only picture selection with no other options, and if that’s how it is then it’s ridiculous, Halo 3 and Reach had foreground, background, and 3 colors to select, now it’s literally just picking an image? Even Call of Duty lets you build your own emblem now, why do we have to take so many steps back when Halo used to have great emblem customization? - Bodytype differences are hardly noticeable, I think there should be something done about this, for example in Reach and Halo 5 the bodytypes were very distinct and you could tell from quite a distance whether someone was playing as a male or female, now it’s really hard to tell even up close in some cases, it’s great to have more options as far as bodytypes go but I think the player’s choices should be much more distinguishable.

Hello,
I tested the flight with my gtx 1660 super on 1080p.
The GPU usage doesn’t go above the 70%.
With Low graphics settings and vsync set on 60, the framerate stays in between 50 and 58
by increasing the graphics, the performance goes even worse until 35-37 fps

I had the opportunity to play the Halo Infinite beta on XBOX ONE, I was also selected on PC, however, my PC did not run the game due to a game configuration error with the graphics card I use, which is a GeForce GTX 1060 3GB, all the users with that type of card gave the same error that was corrected with a slight adjustment in the files for the game hardware, it is the most noticeable observation I had for PC users with those graphics cards
Components of my pc
RAM: 40 GB Processor:
Intel Core i5-8400 2.80 GHz
Graphics card: NVidia GeForce 1060 3GB

Playing on PC w/ Xbox controller

The game was overall very satisfying. The only real issues that I had other than the minor rare bugs:
1 - On rare occasions game audio would stop completely or fluctuate between very loud and very low
2- Had to readjust settings each time that I restarted game.
Other than that, it was better than I expected for a first time tech preview. WELL DONE!

> Grapple hookI think will be nice if Spartans have grapple hook by the default. Maybe it’s sounds weird for old Halo fans but still. Game could be more dynamic. For example: grapple hook with one charge and cooldown (30-40-60 sec or something like this (maybe more) and after cooldown you can use hook again) or grapple hook with 3 charges like now but you can use only 3 charges per map. End of animation of grapple hook could be a bit longer. I mean like when you use grapple hook and you are close to end fly animation, you can use jump and fly a bit higher. Example: grapple hook from Overwatch - Widowmaker (Quick Guide: How to sky shoot / grapple jump with Widowmaker || tips & tricks EP#4 - YouTube).

One more thing. What about customize abilities set up before match started in customize menu or similiar place. I mean you can simply choose with which one abilities you can beginning match: grapple hook, shields or vision grenade (i don’t know how it’s called). You can took only one abilities per Spartan per full match. (=

On my pc the game crashed every time. After the initial loading ( the white dots on the black screen) i was able to listen 3 second of the main menu ost and then the game always crashed.
My build:
i7-6700K OC @4.6GHz
NVIDIA GTX 980 Strix
2x8 DDR4 Hyperxfury @2666mhz
SSD Samsung Evo 860

I completely agree with these.

I’m on PC but my experience with Halo goes all the way back to CE and playing with a controller when it comes to Halo feels far more natural and comfortable. But it really does need input based matchmaking as an option so those using controllers (both console and PC users) don’t get stomped on 99% of the time.

My PC specs: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, Intel Core i7-9700 CPU @ 3.00GHz, 15.88 GB RAM, and on 1920 X 1080 computer screen.

Issues I ran into during the technical preview.

  • -Keybinds, weapon sensitivity, and FOV would be resetting for the first two days after I logged out of the game and get back on. I don’t remember much of them resetting the last two days of the technical preview. - -I don’t know if it’s because it was a old build and wasn’t optimized (in that case, no biggie) but for awhile I did try run my game at maximum FPS at 120 FPS and minimum being 60 FPS and it ran 59-50 FPS for the entire flight. I would set both maximum and minimum to both 60FPS from reading on Support if I remember correctly. I set most of the graphics settings high with all of Sensory will being turn to 0 and Depth of Field turn to 0 and Vsync off.

That’s pretty much the issues I remember running into on PC only stuff with M&KB.

My issues and problems with the game

  1. My game would crash after 3 to 5 games sometimes less.

  2. AMD Drivers Adrenalin 21.7.2 didn’t allow me to play the game which is why I had to switch back to Adrenalin 21.6.1 for the game to actually run.

  3. Key binds / music would reset back to default randomly at time when you closed the game or when the game crashed.

  4. The game needs to be optimized better (ofc) your frames would change depending on the lobby you joined (which is weird) game has screen tearing when you move/look around to fast

My GPU - 5700xt
My CPU - 3600
Got about 45 to 75 frames with everything on high

I found that performance was pretty bad (~40fps on lowest 1440p) but I imagine optimization is already a big priority so there’s not much has to be said
Control wise
mouse movement felt pretty good, I appreciate that acceleration is off by default, I don’t like the aim magnetism setting for mouse
Give us another decimal point for sensitivity
Having separate scope sensitivities day one is amazing thank you!
Triple keybinds are good but let me unbind a key if i want to, for example if I click rebind and then hold down escape it should unbind the key

on ryzen 7 3700x and rtx 2060 game doesn’t perform too well… sometimes laggy and low fps. needs more optimizations

I think the ui needs to add ability to quickly mute players in game like halo 3. The current way is way too long and complicated. Keep it exactly like halo three holding select and pressing x on player. I would also like to click on players name and look at their wins and games played and k/d displayed

I personally would love to see ranks per playlist with progression like how halo 3 had general in specific playlist but commander in another.

I also would like to see one top stat you choose to display on your name when showing intro before game starts. I think the ending game scoreboard also needs to fit the classic scoreboard below when looking. Seemed way too hard and I wanna see classic data like halo 3

the xp boost needs to have a timer in the main lobby and before matches as well as an option to display in game like toggle switch.

I think the hud should be able to customize and move location of some key features. Not many games like to implement this. Just like iRacing, you can move those to any part of the screen. I find it extremely hard to look at far corner to check my ammo and radar when on ultra wide. I wanna be able to move that to classic center or closer to my gun but maybe not all the way center like classic halo. Give us the ability to choose where we wanna place should be easy

Something I noticed was that the audio would become unbalanced. In my case, the sound of the spartan getting hurt or making comments would, in some matches, be louder than the gunfire or the ambient noise of the map. This didn’t happen during all of the test, but only some of the matches. Another sound-related issue I noticed was that the AI would change voices in the game. So if I selected the pyramid one, it would sound like butlr instead, but again this wasn’t all the time. The last thing I could mention was that the voice chat would come from my monitor speakers instead of my headset, but that could be a me problem. I’m so excited to share my experiences with the test. This is my first time reporting bugs like this because I feel like this game has the potential to be phenomenal if I help share the bugs I found too.

wanted to play before really digging into feedback so here we go

not sure how to put these so listing it

T-bagging physics are either not implemented in this build or they NEED fixing

artifacting on main menu

switching weapons with mouse wheel feels inconsistent, if i spin my mouse wheel to swap to my other weapon a lot of the time i do the weapon switching animation but swap to the same weapon i started with. it feels off when in the heat of battle i mean to swap to the sidekick when my ar is empty only to swap past the pistol 3 times to end up on
the ar again.

melee lunge and lock on are IMO way too lungy and lock-ony for regular melee and not having a energy sword…

add grapple hook options for toggle or hold to use (not sure if its already done)

add classic modes in full release plsss (no sprint, no abilitys, RvB, ect) for boomers like me

add collision to players if possible miss jumping on friends heads

I enjoyed very much the test but there are some things that I didn’t like and I think should be attended:

1.- There’s a lot of issues with the loading of menus in general
2.- The bullet magnetism is excesive: I played a few hours Halo Infinte test and then switched to Halo 3 (Master Chief Collection) and my accuracy was dramatically lower, it was very noticeable aiming to the head with the BR.

Crashes
Had zero crashes before the update
Afterwards had a few crashes.
After the hotfix for the stuttering, I also had
2 crashes that l had to restart my pc to fix

Issues
Encountered a fair few of the known issues
Also fell through scenery a couple of times, not floor
or wall but pushed to the side e.g. when climbing a box
on bazaar.
Rockets/grenades/melees that don’t seem to work
although possibly connection related.

I’d love to give you guys some feedback, but I never got to play a match. I would try to start one and get to the black oading screen, then it would cancel out and put me back at the main menu. I tried it Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Put in a support ticket too, but they never got back to me. So, hopefully that gets fixed before launch.

An option to use the zoom system employed in MCC (with clicking to toggle/increase zoom and holding to unzoom on release) would be greatly appreciated, it feels odd that it’s absent despite being brought to almost every other Halo game through the collection.
