Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

I have a Ryzen 9 3900X RTX 2080 s oc Samsung m2 SSD 980 pro 21:9 3440 x 1440 On Ultra I had about 65 FPS. and sometimes FPS falls. I like the gameplay (PC - Elite v2 Controller). but I often had the feeling. that aimed was a bit spongy. The Aming still needs some fine tuning. The weapons should still be a bit balanced sometimes I had the feeling that the grenades did not explode. especially if you died after throwing. Climbing was sometimes only possible after a few attempts.
On the whole, I was very happy with the gameplay. and I think if you listen to the community. Will this be the Best Halo Game

Only one bug i could get during the preview, THIS IS JUST A VISUAL BUG.

In PC(Steam) when you select a prosthesis it got stuck in the first “prostheses” you select but it doesn’t remove when you change it unless you remove it with “None” in your spartan (kind of visual bug, because later in game your arm/leg you select it in the menu will be the one you select even if the prosthesis keep visually on your spartan in the menu).
Customization>Prostheses>Arm.

When you select transhumeral, you cannot “change it” visually in your spartan unless you remove it with the option None but it still will keep the hand prosthesis.

As agreed with everyone above. It currently runs honestly pretty bad. I never saw my frames get higher than 32fps. Even on all low settings. I don’t have a great pc but i have a pretty decent enough one to say the least. Best way for me to put it is I ran cyberpunk on medium high on release so I was surprised when I didn’t end up with 50-60, on at least the lowest settings. However, I still had a blast and REALLY look forward to a more polished version. Most fun I’ve had on a halo game since reach. BEAUTIFUL work altogether.

  • Only using 30% of my GPU Load.
  • Horrible frames at any decent settings graphically.
  • Worse than the frames is the judder, even when in the 100s. Choppy, not smooth.

I feel as if the sniper’s first zoom level of 5x was too much. Every time I zoomed in it felt really off. I’m used to Halo 3, but that game also had a 5x zoom. Maybe these maps were just smaller than Halo 3’s maps. Maybe there is something going on with mouse sensitivity scaling (I usually really hate it when a game scales my sensitivity). Either way it felt a big weird to me.

Firstly, even with the most up-to-date versions of AMD’s drivers, the game would not exceed 60 fps on medium graphical settings at 1080p. during the game test, it was found that the 5700t’s clock speed would ramp up to “2000 MHZ” which showed that the game was using a tremendous amount of power and that the game needs further optimization to suit the 5700xt and other AMD GPU’s.

secondly. during the weapons drill, there would have these red and orange flickering at the bottom of the screen which indicated that there were some graphical issues to which I am unsure why it happened, this happens every time that I was in the weapons training arena. additionally, during multiplayer modes the crosshair and the zoom-in feature would disappear I would not be able to shoot the bots with accuracy.

thirdly, during multiplayer the scoring board icon would not work and when I tried to add a keybind , the game would crash and I would have to relaunch the game. there were some audio issues where I would not be able to hear the “bots” footsteps or anything like

Contrary to many, I was able to get 100-120fps on low settings for 2560x1440 running an RTX 3070 with the game installed on an SSD. The game was often unable to search for matches after changing customisation options which would only apply themselves every second or third time this was attempted.

Because of my luck with the game’s performance, the gameplay was unbelievable. The clicking sound after getting a kill is interesting but fairly satisfying and, while the AR is as much of a beast as people say, I can’t wait for more PVP testing to find out how much of a beast it is. The quick draw headshot combo with the AR and sidekick is straight out of John Wick. Honourable mention to whoever invented no-scoping with the skewer because harpooning oddly suits Halo. There might well be some small balancing issues but those are probably best left to the experts to dissect. To me this was just fun, well done. The game felt fast and fluid without all the superfluous ‘advanced’ movement. I felt like a kid again but the game also felt new. People I know who haven’t touched Halo in years were loving the stream and that speaks volumes for me.

Also can you please make the chicken running around on Bazaar a bit smarter because he keeps dying. At the very least move it somewhere safe :slight_smile:

Minor loading problems, but expected due to being an older version of the game.
I had some minor complaints with some of the balancing of picked up items.
-The new shotguns (bulldog and the heatwave?) bulldog was underwhelming as it needed 2-3 close up hits to kill and the heatwave you spend half the ammo for a single kill in horizontal or need to lead and be god at aim to hit vertical to do any real damage.
-The gravity hammer felt slow when swinging.
-The grapple hook feels short, think it would benefit from a tad more reach.

  • When deploying the drop shield it takes awhile to activate and even then its so weak. It was taking 3 hits to destroy a panel from a pistol and less then a second in automatic fire. In human PvP it wouldn’t even matter I think unless you throw early and get the jump on someone otherwise you just reveled location.

I don’t know if anyone else had the issue, but whenever I changed my push to talk trying to rebind it the game would crash. I ended up not even communicating due to not wanting to keep messing with controls.
I had multiple issues with the game not saving the controls I had changed, also when I found that when you tried to revert everything to defaults it wasn’t working and I had to go and change all items back to default that I could.
I would like to see more daily or be able to do more challenges after weekly are done.
In customizing spartan I kept encountering issue where my AI was not being saved, so I was getting the default AI.
My frames were just under 60fps consistently while in matches or at the menu. During the load screens my frames would drop to average 30fps. How is a black loading screen with 3 white dots causing my FPS to be cut in half?

my PC Specs;
CPu: AMD Ryzen 7 3700x 8-Core Processor 3.6GHz
Ram: 32gb
GPU: Raedon 5700xt
Monitor: 1080p Benq 1ms refresh rate144hz
only managed to get between 34-46fps depend on graphic quality. i assume this will improve over time but definitely felt quite jankee. the pace of the game was good though, very reminiscent of halo 3.
had a bug that affected the sound on some games, some of the sounds were not audible for the entire game, sounded like i was in a big empty room. apart from that no major bugs apart from images not rendering in the menu most of the time.

  1. The button and joystick layout would not save in settings after I exited the game.
    -I play on recon rather than the default configuration and this setting would reset after exiting the game.
  2. The FOV slider would also reset after exiting the game
    -I play on 120 FOV and upon exiting the game, I’d later come back to see that the FOV had been reset to default.
  3. The weapon drills would not save my progress.
    -Upon getting 3 stars in a weapon drill, I later came back and I was back at 0 stars. This happened inside the current game session
  4. The sniper and skewer need some tweaking on controller.
    -They feel extremely floaty and makes it really difficult to aim with.

This preview was a lot of fun, and apparently very accessible for new fans, however it was noticeable that the optimization for PC needs to receive some attention which is understandable for a trial version, another detail that should be noted is the power of AR fire and neddler that are a little unbalanced, the more the content presented is extremely promising and at this rate we will have the best multiplayer game of a franchise in a long time.

This was amazing! Unfortunately I didn’t get to play in the matchmaking during the set time periods, or the maps other than Live Fire. I am still excited for the final product. I’ve heard that it’s appreciated that the loadout system being done away with, because it didn’t feel like halo. I think the free-to-play model is a great path, especially if this game is going to last a long time. Thank you for everything!

This was a fun preview. Gameplay felt good on keyboard and mouse. The weapons in general felt well balanced, my only input would be to slow the RoF on the commando rifle just a tiny bit. Felt like you could just hold the trigger without scoping in and get an easy kill, but that could just be me.
Overall, very happy with the way this is going. Thank you 343 for the chance to play and keep up the good work!

I experienced all of these issues regarding key binds and settings resetting on terminating the program.

I have a very heavy specced PC built for game development with AMD hardware, I couldn’t play more than 6 full games during this flight because every other game I would randomly crash even with updated drivers. I liked what I saw so far but unfortunately I couldn’t play as much as I would have liked due to the constant game crashing.

There needs to be an option for Exclusive Fullscreen

I tested the alpha for a few hours, and really the performance is leaving a lot to be desired, I played with an i7 7700k / 16GB / RTX2070 / SSD at 2k resolution, I got around 40-60 fps but with a lot of stuterring, the use of the card The video wavered a lot too, I run with the latest driver from nvidia, and the windows updated, I believe they focused a lot on the consoles, because in them it’s running very well, Xbox S 2k 120 FPS / and X at 4k 120 FPS with a good graphic quality, hopefully in the next flight they prioritize a little optimization on the PC, but the game is a lot of fun.

I found myself avoiding using sprint if at all possible during this tech preview because the screen shaking was intense to the point of causing me discomfort. I tried to change the setting for this to 0% in the menu, but it seemed to have no effect. This may just be a bug in the settings, but if not, I would really consider toning down the intensity of the movement, even at 100% With how little the sprint actually affects your spartan’s movement (which is a good change if sprint is to be permanent, I think) I don’t think it would feel wrong for there to be less of an earthquake when I hold shift.

Good afternoon. First one i will apologize for my english. I hope you can understand what i meaning. I’m came to Halo from fast games like Overwatch | Unreal. Here is a my piece of feedback. (=

My hardware:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 - GPU: GeForce RTX 2070 Super - RAM: 16 GB - SSD: 500 GB NVME (2200/2000) - Resolution: 1920 x 1080 | 144 Hz - OS: Windows 10 - Platform: SteamSettings:

  • Every time when i started play the game FOV had been reset to default. - Every time when i started play the game audio settings especially sound of menu had been reset to default. - Not regulary but a few times when i started play the game my mouse settings and a few keyboard binds has been reset to default. - Video settings doesnt work but about this problem devs know. - Can’t use fullscreen resolution (fullscreen option).Performance:

  • Overall not terrible (decent) but need a lot of optimisation. My GPU load was under 50% and my cpu load around 30-35%. - About fps issues devs know: i mean low settings or similiar. I was can’t reach over 100 fps on my system… - My game crashed randomly only 2-3 times. - Loading time was not fast but decent.UI:

  • Multiple times scoreboard doesnt work. - Will be nice if he will be more changeable. Especially his size.Polygon:

Performance on him was smooth: 0 crashes and stucks. Shoot on training bots was ok - no issues. Please make a training polygon like open space for free movement. Add more walls, pillars and stuff like that. Just like a training polygons in Overwatch/Apex. My point is: give for player freedom for testing stuff on polygon. Will be nice if player can try some abilities and weapon, combine them. Unlimited cooldon/low cooldown on grapple hook for example will be nice. Take a inspire from Overwatch and Apex training polygons. They work very well for players and they are very usefull.

Basic movement:

Is smooth and feels good but personally i hope he will be a little bit faster than now. Halo deserved to be a bit faster than before. My ideal of movement is UT 2003.

Grapple hook:

I think will be nice if Spartans have grapple hook by the default. Maybe it’s sounds weird for old Halo fans but still. Game could be more dynamic. For example: grapple hook with one charge and cooldown (30-40-60 sec or something like this (maybe more) and after cooldown you can use hook again) or grapple hook with 3 charges like now but you can use only 3 charges per map. End of animation of grapple hook could be a bit longer. I mean like when you use grapple hook and you are close to end fly animation, you can use jump and fly a bit higher. Example: grapple hook from Overwatch - Widowmaker (Quick Guide: How to sky shoot / grapple jump with Widowmaker || tips & tricks EP#4 - YouTube).

Weapons:

Weapons looks okay for me. Some non regs and weird shot’s was but hey it’s alpha. Let’ see what will be in the next flight. Sniper zoom can be more useful or kind a different. Right now animation of full scope (0 - 5 - 10 - 0) is weird and end of animation is “long/weird” and you couldn’t fast deny her with melee hit (by the default v for melee hit). Melee lunge is okay for me too.

AIM + Crosshairs:

Is decent with mouse and keyboards but i really dont understand aim assist option on mouse. This option is currently useless and don’t need it on PC. Will be definetly nice if PC player (and not only) could setup his own crosshair and color like in other FPS games. If this option is not planneble, just give a player setting to make crosshair a bit smaller than now.

That’s a few my things. Overall i’m really happy with alpha flight. It was my first flight. Can’t wait for next one if they pick me up again.
