Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

You guys absolutely need to make sure that this game is optimized. A overclocked 2060 and 2600x cpu both running at max speeds should crush this game.

I took a look at what was going on with a benchmarking software and noticed that both cpu and gpu utilization were locked to 50%. So just make sure the game isn’t handicapping itself when it comes to semi high-end hardware.

If you change the video settings of any category during the game, a sound bug will appear, as if it is muted by half, until you re-enter the game.

PC Specs
CPU: I7 8700K
GPU: RTX 3080
RAM: 32gb

So I enjoyed what I play but have one issue apart from the general performance issues most have already brought up.

Maybe I missed it but is there a way to select aspect ratio?

I play on an 48" LG CX on PC and with a lot of games I can set the game to run at 21:9 at 3840x1620. Like Doom Eternal for example, so I get the widescreen experience.
As it is, there’s only a resolution scaler.

Had a blast playing both PC and Xbox versions and definitely found myself on the PC more, which is a first for me in Halo. My PC specs:

-8700k
-RTX 3070
-64GB DDR4 3600
-LG 2560 x 1440 @144Hz (scaled up to 120%)

With graphics maxed to Ultra I was averaging around 70fps.

Bugs:

  • Audio cut out when joining a game in progress. Only way to correct was the exit to desktop and restart the game. - Armor customization was clunky and I couldn’t change colors 90% of the time - Long black screen when loading games - Ai voices wouldn’t stick and would change at random it seems - Mapping and then reverting hot keys would cause the game to crash repeatedly. (I changed TAB key to ‘marker’ and then back to ‘scoreboard’ and it would exit to desktop. I tested this 4 times with the same result.) - Audio: would have to check and uncheck lobby / chat each game to mute players on my team.Things I liked:

  • The seamless transition from keyboard / mouse to gamepad and back. After a few hours of keyboard my left wrist became fatigued so I switched it up to my Pro controller and it automatically carried over my settings from Xbox. This was nice. - The UI seems much better tailored to PC vs Xbox. I found the controller clunky to navigate, and the mouse far easier. - Overall mechanics felt excellent. The speed, movement, clamber, gunplay all felt great to me. Glad spartan charge and float is gone… unless that’s the “thruster” power up which might be interesting. - Marking enemies / locations / weapons for your teammates. I routinely marked where the bots were and it was great to see my teammates converge on that spot.Things that could improve:

  • The UI is still clunky. Maybe I’m just not used to it after 7 hours of playing but finding challenges, progress, and customization often entailed different navigation routes or continuous backing out. That said, it’s still 100% better than any COD menu navigation. - XP consumables shouldn’t count down when not in use. You’ve done almost everything else right that is user experience, don’t stop here! - Overall customization bug fixes and streamlining. - Will there be ray-tracing? - Some textures were lacking, understand it’s still a WIP. - Blue and Red coated players were confusing and I often mistakenly shot my own teammates (or didn’t shoot the enemy). Good thing friendly fire was off. - Post game stats were confusing to navigate - Add the ability to mute individual players when checking the stats in game.Weapon stuff:

  • The burst carbine just didn’t do it for me, least favorite weapon. Maybe don’t call it the carbine… - Needler also seemed less lethal and visually impressive (the supercombine) compared to previous titles. Seeing an opponent with the Needler should instill fear. - BR felt great. - Loved the Sidekick - SPNKr should be louder. - Don’t think I got a single kill with the Skewer, maybe it’s more AV then AP.Cannot wait to play this again, I’m stoked! Keep up the good work.

Most of the time I didn’t hear the game sound, despite having changed the headphones and having closed and opened the game.
It was difficult for me to enter against the bots, after the search and the loading screen I returned to the main menu, like that repeatedly. I know that the problem isn’t my computer since it meets the recommended requirements.

In the end, thanks for letting me play!

Only issues with the product:

  • Sensitivity was an issue. In comparison to the MCC, in which I never had an issue getting my sensitivity to where I was comfortable, I struggled immensely with adjusting my sensitivity to where I was comfortable. Either I was able to flick far too fast for headshots, or my mouse lagged considerably when try to line up my shot, whenever the sensitivities were only a couple of decimals away
  • Give us the ability to increase crosshair size. Us PC players have only been able to play the original trilogy and Halo 4, which all included large crosshairs. The very minimal default crosshair Infinite gives us makes it very hard to finish off opponents who we cracked. In comparison to the other Halo games, I found that this was the hardest to kill in.
  • Frame rate was inconsistent. I easily should have been able to run ultra, but found issues even on high graphic settings.
Aside from this, I loved what I played, and cannot wait for the next flight!

It’s not that hard to translate your feedback in english, come on dude

Overall -
I enjoyed my time playing the preview, the start of preview something didn’t feel right, felt a little too slow for the movement but after the update of 5GB, it felt a lot smoother overall and I adjusted to the movement, I only experienced two crashs, one was just loading into a game and another was trying to change a few key binding mid-game. I didn’t really experience many issues while playing honestly with sometimes a few latency issues and some sound issues.

Performance -
Playing throughout all of the preview, I normally kept a good 60 - 70 frames with only a few dips what to be expected. this is playing on the preset ultra settings.

Issues -
The only main issue I spotted was if i join an already in progress match all my environment sounds would have a muffled sound to them but all the announcer audio will be fine, other things are so small such as customization on spartan just wouldn’t show sometimes like the colors or an amour peice icon just would be blank instead of having image of the amour there.

My Rig -
RTX 3080
Intel I7-7700K - 4.20GHz
32 GB Ram - DDR4 3600 MHz

I found out that the settings menu is tied to a player’s online profile when I think it should act like a git repo instead. Whenever I loaded into the game and changed my FOV before my online profile was loaded, it would never save fully. It would temporarily save for the session until I tried to let my online profile load first before changing the FOV settings again where it saved fully.

I think aim magnetism enabled by default made the game’s shooting feel horrible for me because I’m already used to keyboard and mouse. Once I turned it off, the game felt much better.

I think that there should be an option to disable dynamic resolution scaling but besides that, the video options were great but lacking a description of what they do for this engine.

The framerates I was getting on a 3900x and RTX 2070 Super would be fine on a 60 hertz monitor but since I have a 120 hertz monitor the game was playable but felt choppy.

The reason for crashes were inconsistent on where and when they happened and didn’t have error codes tied to the crashes. The amount of crashing was reduced when I let the player profile load and the game sit for a minute or 2 before trying to matchmake.

This flight has me pumped for infinite!

I played on PC with an Elite v2 controller. I wish I bothered to try out the xBox flight so i could compare how the gun game feels on there.

I had issues controlling aiming at distance, it felt different than it had in the past halos (which I played on xBox - this is my first playing on PC. Never really played MCC on steam).

I had to turn down my sensitive along with deadzones quite a bit. I still found myself over-aiming wildly sometimes - that could be my issue but it felt a bit weird! I haven’t adjusted any of the sensitivities on the elite controller tho, perhaps I should.

Random bugs:

  • At first I couldn’t enter any customization menus (until day 2) - When joining an in-progress game, a lot of the sounds were low or not present. I’d hear player sounds (gruns when getting hit) but not footsteps and other ambient noise - When using a non-default controller layout (specifically “custom” with no customizations) I couldn’t side step to the right until I returns to default configurations (for the controller)

2060
32gb ram

slight stuttering during gameplay
some guns feel slightly under whelming like the BR and the heatwave
melees lunge is too far in my opinion
sometimes super long loading screens of game start ups
when trying to exit out of the customization menu. some of the menus didnt specify how to exit that menu
sometimes the prosthetic customization didnt unedit or didnt change

overall i personally had a good experience unlike some others, im grateful i had the opportunity to play none-the-less!

First, I’d like to first congratulate the development team on bringing us the Halo we needed. It is a combination of the classic with the new and is the best of all. I can’t wait to see the campaign!
But, not everything is honey on flakes and these were my next problems that I am sure will be solved soon:
Graphic section:
Unfortunately I had many problems with optimization on PC using an AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB graphics card.
At 1920x1080 resolution in low graphics, the game stayed around 29-38 FPS (With the option of minimum FPS at 60). At 56% resolution (I don’t remember the resolution numbers) with low graphics it remained between approximately 40 FPS.
Audio section:
Usually all sounds, effects, dialogs etc. they were correct, sometimes a bug occurred in which it sounded like it was underwater.
Menu section:
I had problems when making the key function change, I had a bug which every time I tried to modify the assignment of a key with the movement, the game would close.

Graphics were nice for a preview but the different levels (low to ultra) didn’t seem to do much of anything, even to my framerates. Speaking of framerate… I run a RX 6800, and it could not keep up even at low settings. 50 fps on a 3440x1440? Even on something like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla that is low for me.

ALSO I could not for whatever reason bind any key to the scoreboard check in multiplayer. The second I did (and I tried a lot of different times with many different keys) it would instantly crash the game.

So far with dual monitors (2nd monitor is a TV with built in speakers) in-game chat audio will play through the TV speakers while game audio will play through my selected audio source (amp/dac to headset). Turning minimum FPS to 144 fixed low frame rate issues for me, where I used to get 70fps I get 110-130+.

So for the keybind issue there was actually a fix for that. By removing two files from the steam folder.

Overall, the performance was great given im running a GTX 1070, Intel Core i5 8500, and 16GB of memory. There were a few bugs that I could point out like some of the UI in the game had sometimes bugged out and wouldn’t show anything, backgrounds would go out of bounds (it would seem like), and profile cards would sometimes be purple like if it was missing textures. Gameplay felt smooth and amazing, seeing how my FPS kept within 50-80 FPS on high settings playing at 1080p, it was still a pleasant experience. The weapon drills I didn’t see anything wrong with, they were a good way to get adjusted to the new/updated weapons of Infinite. The bot slayer mode was actually intriguing and at times felt like I was fighting other players, but there were times when the bots would stand completely still or just run into walls until you took them out, otherwise it was great! The battle pass and the store in my oppinion were a great addition to halo but it would be nice if some of the skins for the guns or other color variants for armor were cheaper, but if its a cosmetic that really changes the look of the weapon or to have a whole armor set bundle, I think the 700-900 credit range is perfect. The XP boosts and the challenge rolls were at a good price and were a good addition, although during the flight they did seem to bug out a little whenever I tried to use some but it said that I didn’t have any until I went to the waypoint infinite beta website and activated one remotely. Speaking of XP, the challenges were a great way to get XP for the battle pass, but I think that there should be a system to where you can just play matches to earn XP so you aren’t relying on the challenges specifically to finish the battle pass. I had that problem during the beta because I got to tier 13 or 14 but couldn’t continue to earn more XP for the battle pass since I had already completed all of the daily and weekly challenges. In all, I really enjoyed my time playing the beta and I hope I can flight and play more of Halo Infinite soon!

Although it was listed as a rare issue in the known issues, it happened quite often and consistently that i would load into a match but got stuck at the black screen just to be returned to the menu instead of participating in the match

> Playing controller on PC, it feels a little clunky and slow. The screen shake slider doesn’t eliminate screen shake completely, I know you are going for the feeling that we are actually sprinting but it’s just distracting. Most of the guns feel a little off and need slight accuracy changes in my opinion. The default AR needs a slight damage increase to make up for the bloom it has. A huge thing that needs to change before the game goes live is the boosts to xp ticking even when you are in lobby. Other games do this and honestly it’s just toxic. The player shouldn’t be penalized for slow matchmaking times. if you feel that makes the double xp too powerful make them for less time but run only during a match. Shows you care about balance and the player. Right now the only gun that feels good is the pistol and I’m sure you will be able to tell that’s what most of us are using. This absolutely does not mean it needs nerfed it just means that the other guns need balanced around the pistol. It feels like classic Halo gunplay. This is only my first impressions after 2.5 hours of gameplay I’ll update my feedback throughout my flight. Hopefully you take these things into consideration. Also in case my bug report gets lost in the sauce I’ll put it here as well, when you tab out and come back the audio bugs out and some things end up muffled.

I used an Xbox One controller on PC, and it worked phenomenally. I had an easier time getting started with a controller on Halo Infinite than I did on MCC.
