Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

OPINION: So far its the game runs great. Running on low setting at 144fps. Over all having a really goods time. I do feel like the MK50 side kick should ne buffed a little. Might be just me but two shot in the head with no shield seem like a bit much. The bull dog should have a wider spread too.

Good evening 343 from Greece !! I recently played the halo infinity beta and thank you very much for accepting me and I noticed some semantic problems on the pc which are the following:
1st the effects quality when I set them to High the image is blurred while at low it is crystal clear
2nd: the animations need a lot of work in how you share in the run and the weapons do not show the taste that you have a two-dimensional and a weak weapon and you look at their graphics like halo 5 needs work.
3rd: the fps to play with Rtx gtx 1000 or 2000 must adjust the hz from 50 to 144 if it has a 144hz screen to play at 55 fps to 70.
I had to say this is a very good game but it needs work on your pc, thank you very much !!

While the latest patch helped with the stuttering, the game still runs at 50-60% utilization on CPU and GPU which means low frames and input delay.
The only way to get around 80-90 fps is to force the min framerate setting to 200 or higher.
Using MnK, there is definitely a feeling that the game is having a hard time keeping up with the inputs, esp on keyboard.
This definitely feels like a controller first game that is trying to be a mnk game, which I guess makes sense but a shame…
Knowing that its free to play for PC, if this is how its going to run on mnk in the final build, I still might pass on this and that sucks because i’ve been playing halo since CE.
I am praying 343 has already fixed this in the current build.

Are the chickens on Bazaar a nice easter egg for postums and his chicken elites? They’re hilarious
Also it bothers me that Infinite rat doesnt show up as ally on your motion tracker, like the H3 rat did back then

Just wanted to mention a bug I have been getting. I’m playing on a PC with an Xbox controller. When I change my sensitivity after a game or two it resets to default. Also once in-game when my sidekick was out of ammo I went over a dead body and picked some up and the reload animation never went through it just put the ammo in the clip.

The Spartan outlines NEED to be reworked or replaced:

  • You must be able to distinguish teammates individually through walls instead of having to guess whose outline is whose. Service tags would fix this easily; there was no need to remove them. - Enemy Spartans do not need outlines. Like in past games’ FFA or other games like Destiny, it’s easy to distinguish enemies because they lack an outline or marker. - The outlines interfere with immersion and cosmetic visibility, whether on teammates or enemies. O****utlines should be ditched in favor of a return to the service tag system. It’s easy to tell friendlies from enemies based on the presence of a service tag or lack thereof, and it allows the customizations to be seen better by everyone without sacrificing team identifiability.
  1. Add an option to adjust sprint headbob.
  2. Add options to adjust personal AI voice volume and frequency.
  3. Add an option to adjust Spartan chatter frequency.
  4. Add an option to adjust menu navigation volume.
  5. Add an option to fully tint friends and enemies at all times with adjustable opacity. (By tint I mean much like when you see a teammate through a wall)
  6. Ability to adjust sniper zoom with mousewheel without it switching weapons. (No, I don’t want to rebind switch weapons)

Personal opinions

  1. Menu navigation sound (left, right, up, down) is really uncomfortable to listen to.
  2. Headbob feels uncomfortable (and I normally love this in games.)
  3. Some of the new menu music super bland. (Love the Halo CE tracks.)
  4. End game/mid game music is super bland and generic.
I loved all the music in Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST, and Reach. Really not liking this new music though.

The Spartan outlines… WHY?

  • You made amazing looking realistic customizable spartans then covered them with an ugly outline and glowing shader, this is bad game design and desperately needs to be changed. Other games use much better systems like the older Halo’s did and still show custom skins and armours just fine without this horrible shader… - The horizontal UI makes scrolling through stuff such a chore… who banned vertical UI screens recently? By the time I scrolled 1000clicks and I had a few more to go to unlock my skin I thought I think I have better stuff to do.

Unsure if this was intentional or not but controller on PC has little or no aim assist. sometimes if feels like you have it then other times there is nothing at all. Whether a bug or intention it feels off. Hope it has aim assist but its not as strong as MCC was. Halo always feels like a controller game to me and lack of aim assist would put controller users at a huge disadvantage on PC.

As for the game so far:
Outlines need changed, good idea but in all honesty having a system like allies have tags above there head and their gamer tags visible while enemies do not would be the best way which also allows players to show off there armour and still tell friend from foe.

Bots have a habit of randomly disengaging from a fight mid fight like they suddenly lost track of you and wander off allowing themselves to be shot in the back, or they get stuck at a ledge jumping randomly unable to climb it.

Melee feels. Off a little, sometimes super responsive other times you swing and nothing happens several times.

other than these and other known issues stated earlier by others i have to say im super impressed and excited for release. By far so far the best feeling halo by 343. Just i will say please fix the plasma pistol sound and the music (at least some) feels. I guess a little generic same with the in game music for half way or end game. Feels a little off and not so much halo to me.

  1. +1, please add this option to adjust sprint headbob

Can’t wait to try it!

my client crashes to dash before i can sign in to my microsoft account.

UPDATE:
PC performance varies depending on the map and so far, Recharge performs the best
Getting around 95fps and slightly better input responsiveness.
This feels so close to being good, god so close and I can almost feel how good this game is suppose to feel on mnk.

So I updated my drivers and I was able to play for a bit and had the opportunity to preview everything that was offered. However, I can say that at least for me it was not that much fun. Thankfully I can change the controls to match the MCC controls I have been using for a long time, but my CPU is not running the game well at all, whereas it runs MCC effortlessly. For me, there was no graphical change between Low and Ultra settings. I think the highest fps I had was about 8-10, regardless of what setting I had it on. However, I did notice an occasional difference between performance in the training area and the multiplayer area. There was also a consistent difference between the quality in the Armory and the customization, where it was better and a lot smoother to access than the rest of the flight/beta test. I have seen people playing on PC on youtube as well as other places where they are not encountering any of these issues, but my issues nearly make the game(especially multiplayer) unplayable. It looks very promising, but I think that it is important that issues pertaining to basic playability on PC should be fixed. I think that it is also worth mentioning that the menu screen is extraordinarily generic (nitpicky I know) in the sense that it is not like Halo. The menu screen and a few of the maps made me feel like I was playing a controller-friendly version of Counter-Strike Global Offensive, and the poor display of graphics made it feel that way as well. While it seems like you folks are aiming to get new players, give them that refreshing taste of Halo that all of us fans have even grown up with. I have been playing the Halo franchise since I was probably 3 or 4 years old and I have loved this franchise since. This multiplayer menu screen should look closer to the MCC or any of the other multiplayer menus that have existed in the past installments in the franchise. Even the Halo 4 menu is significantly better than this one. I think that the highlight was definitely the customization in the armory and the practice arena as well. The multiplayer seems like a rough amalgamation of CSGO and Warzone. I also think that it would be neat for players to earn the in-game credits instead of needing to buy more. I also appreciated that you can buy the battle pass with the in-game currency rather than it only being available for purchase with USD or any other real currency. Overall, I would say that this is a good step forward in development, but I am having a multitude of issues on my end. If the experiences presented in other testings are good, then I think that this game should be ready for those with most Xbox Series consoles and Higher End PCs by November of this year. However, if a notable amount of pc users are facing the same issues that I am on a larger scale, there is significant work to be done before the game should be ready for release.

Using the mouse scroll wheel to switch weapons, sometimes the game will switch back to the original weapon if you scroll a tad too far. Would like to see a scroll wheel delay function to mitigate this, as I tend to be a little aggressive when trying to swap weapons quickly.

hey I was wondering I have been sending my bug reports to the halo forum support site and was wondering we are suppose to send them their right? Because the halo channel app does not work on my phone. my pc runs hot so I don’t want to have the game crash on me for having it open too long could someone point me in the right direction because I’m not sure if my bug reports are getting in or if I’m doing something wrong. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I know for a fact that I should have the right specs to run this game i run a Lenovo legion 5 with a Ryzen 7 4800h 16 gb of ram and a RTX 2060 mobile this laptop was made in 2020 and I should be able to handle a good chunk of this game but I get dips in performance on all settings and have been playing scenes the tech preview came out. It does not really affect my gaming performance in game but I see people out there with 120 to 144 frames and I have been reading the update logs but I have not seen a difference in my gameplay performance but the gameplay is nice and graphics look awesome I have no other complaints except for that.

The big PC issues i encountered:

Awful performance, PC SPECS:

  • CPU: AMD 5600X - RAM: 32 GB 3200Mhz - GPU: RTX 3070 - Storage: Corsair MP600 NVME SSD - Operating System: Windows 10 21H1Really low frame rates (40-60 at 1440p), stuttering and inconsistant frame timing to a point where 60 fps feels like 30 fps
Tried all graphics presets and the difference between low and ultra was around 10 fps

These following issues I have also left on the ‘UI & Live’ forum post

  • The ‘season progress’ screen does not fill the full 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio - Customisation screen is too zoomed in where models seem too big on a 21:9 ultrawide aspect ratio - Unable to use mouse cursor to equip any kind of customisation items - FOV, Mouse and keyboard settings, controller settings and Bindings reset on client start-upI have made replies on the other forum posts aswell but overall I think the game even in its current state is solid. Even as a guy who’s first Halo was Halo 2 back in 2004 and has played every halo game since, it strikes the perfect balance between new and classic halo and I love it! I think that you guys have done a fantastic job so far, Infinite has huge potential, especially if most of the issues can be ironed out before launch

Yeah i know, im not trying to push beyond 60 just trying to get 60 flat, where the settings should be according to the i think its called gpu_nvidia.txt file in the games files. Im comfortable playing 60fps wouldn’t want to go lower which unfortunately it is on low settings and the render scale set at 55%
Thankyou
P.s im not rudely replying

the difference between spartan and Odst bots is barely noticeable. Please make the spartan bots more smarter and act more like players like having them pull off some really nutty plays. I want to see a spartan bot wipe half of the enemy team by utilizing equipment and grenades in a really smart way. Or seeing spartan bots coordinate to flank players from behind while another distracts them from the front. Make the spartan bots more “sweaty” than they currently are now.

This game does not like AMD Cards at all lol.
GPU: AMD RX 6800
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600x
RAM: 16gb 1200MHz

I have updated all of my drivers and done extensive troubleshooting and the best I can manage is an average FPS of around 27-45 across all multiplayer maps with some maps performing better than others. I am playing with every setting on low and every optional graphical tuning turned completely off. I am also aware that my CPU could use an upgrade however I’m unfortunately not at liberty to perform one at the moment.

Average Utilization
After playing a few matches to normalize GPU and CPU usage I noticed that my GPU will sit between 80-90% utilization and my CPU typically at 50-75% utilization. I have had two instances of a driver crash while playing the game where both my monitors go black, all applications close and the error report screen from AMD appears. I filed both reports to AMD, not sure if that helps you guys with anything but I figured why not.

Average performance

  • Live Fire: Average FPS count is between 27-32 with very brief spikes to 40 when looking at the edges of the map with no player models in sight. Nothing else noteworthy.
  • Recharge: Best map performance wise with an FPS count of 35-40 fps with spikes up to 47 FPS. Noticed for some reason when Needlers and the Ravager are fired on this map frames begin to drop sharply. - Bazzar: This map is where I see the worst overall performance. Average FPS count similar to Live Fire but with a lower end FPS average at 20-28 FPS. I will say this map was where I had both instances of AMD Drivers crashing. - Firing Range: Runs very smoothly at 50-60 fps. Not surprising however.Overall I have enjoyed the gameplay on PC quite a lot, I had to rebind a few keys to more familiar layouts for myself such as using 1 and 2 for weapon swapping, F for melee and Q for grenades (I’m weird) But my biggest gripe is just the overall lack of optimization for AMD cards, friends of mine running on 3080s and 3090s have been getting consistent 60-90 FPS across everything. I do hope to see this optimization applied on launch! Keep up the good work 343!
