Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

Im getting really low fps with my system (40-50fps) I’ve lowered all graphics setting and even using the lowest resolution 600p to no effect. Please optimise for AMD cards as I dont see NVIDIA users having so much issues.

Playing Halo Infinite on PC, 15-20 fps running lowest resolution and lots of input lag/delay with the lowest settings possible. Sliding causes rubber banding/even more lag. radeon rx 580 GPU 8GB, Ryzen 7 3700x 3.6 gigahertz, 32 GB of RAM

The UI is hard to navigate and hope we get more customization for it

Gunplay is great and mostly balanced, shotguns and gravity hammer feel a bit weak

The map designs are a little boring, Bazaar is great though

Please bring back my old school gravity hammer audio and physics!

I also hope we don’t get foolish armor and intro scenes ruining Halo’s identity

Great game from what I can see… oh and are we getting firefight?

Sometimes if you pick up ammo for a weapon as it spawns the weapon will reload but not shoot until you switch weapons.

So If BR = equipped; BR spawn = 3 seconds; Player is standing on weapon spawn; BR=spawn; BR ammo added to player supply; weapon will reload (bullets in chamber!) without animation, weapon will not fire, switch to secondary, switch back, weapon will fire.

Loving the game but the issues I’ve found so far mainly fall down to:

1)Sometimes when joining a match in progress, the audio levels are mixed strangely. Gunfire, explosions, and footsteps sound muffled and character death cries/grunts are loud and pronounced as if they died right next to you and have an echo effect.
2)Sometimes I’ll join a match and just hang at the loading screen for a bit before being returned to the lobby and receiving the message that I’ve been kicked for inactivity.
3)Ediiting the Push-To-Talk key binding will crash the game (I’ve submitted a ticket on this one because it happens 100% of the time).
4)Occasionally when starting the game, I will find my FOV setting reverted to the default value.

Gigabyte ax370 gaming 3 MotherBoard

So I am KB&M player and the game is really good. its been running 60 fps low settings even in this beta but I hope it gets better optimisation.
Lot of Frame Skipping
Some Input Delay
Players sometimes are shown lying on the ground when the game starts
Some Aim Skipping, where the gun just sometimes gets pulled around a bit more after coming to a stop on the Mouse.
Field of View adjusting during a game does not affect the FoV until next match.

Today,

My in-game scoreboard is disabled. If I try to change my key binding, the key shows up as 3 empty spaces. But If I try to change the key, it says “scoreboard is already bound to TAB”. If I press anything, including escape to cancel, my game crashes on the spot to desktop.
So, I can not see the scoreboard during a match today.

I also get a LOT of screen flickering during PAUSE when in-game. This is pretty bad, its a relatively slow flash for a short time, but maybe every second or so, the entire screen flashes white. I also get this flickering during the game opening and getting to the “this is a beta flight… etc” screen. If I do not press SPACE to start game, it keeps flickering in the background.

I’m On PC but I always use controller for Halo games and the controls feel really odd to me on pc. It felt like regardless of what sense I choose it didn’t feel right, which never has happened before. I’m not sure if it’s the auto aim, the sense, or the acceleration but something felt really off on controller for me. Really loving the game overall though this was just the one big issue I was having since I play on controller for Halo games exclusively on PC.

Sometimes when you switch to the Steam overlay or tab out you lose the whole UI for the rest of the game with no way to restore it

For sure a lot of optimization left to do (hopefully) but that is expected when we play a technical test. I am playing at 3440*1440p UW monitor.

Here are some of my thoughts and feedbacks:

  • My aim cross disappeared once I set the display margin of the UI at 25 and 25
  • Binding any key to “push to talk” makes crash my game
  • Most of the times, I do not see what are the items to unlock in the battle pass when i open it
  • The interface to change spartans skins and guns etc… is really not user friendly in my opinion
  • the main menu could be simpler to navigate, once I touch escape I feel lost and keep pushing escape feeling like I am never back to the main menu of the game
  • I really do not like the progression system of the battle pass (XP after each game is clearly necessary instead of only challenges) and only challenges clearly kill the XP boost consumables (which is a hard to find menu by the way)
  • The app and website beta are in the good direction in my opinion even if i am still not crazy about the interface which are like the game to change skins
  • The gameplay is fun and feels like H3 with sprint and some movements to jump walls etc… and imho it is the best for halo and really works for me
  • The bots are OK so far (rarely see them getting weapons even if in the live video you guys said they are going for them) and are sometimes really (too) good at aiming from far away with the pistol and can be deadly with nades.
  • I like the concept of the drills and I really hope you are gonna include a lot more options (obviously a free play with all the weapons and some targets, and options like killing 30 targets to set the best scores, some unlimited etc…). I really liked the training in Valorant for exemple, the shooting range is really nice and could be something to follow. Would be interesting to include the gadget as well in the drills or in some kind of freeplay like Apex has as well.

I am gonna stop here (the urge of playing more is here) and keep going guys!! I am very excited about the game and can’t wait to see the progress of the game until it comes out!

Most of the guns feel a little off and need slight accuracy changes in my opinion. The default AR needs a slight damage increase to make up for the bloom it has. A huge thing that needs to change before the game goes live is the boosts to xp ticking even when you are in lobby. Other games do this and honestly it’s just toxic. The player shouldn’t be penalized for slow matchmaking times. if you feel that makes the double xp too powerful make them for less time but run only during a match. Shows you care about balance and the player. Right now the only gun that feels good is the pistol and I’m sure you will be able to tell that’s what most of us are using. This absolutely does not mean it needs nerfed it just means that the other guns need balanced around the pistol. It feels like classic Halo gunplay. This is only my first impressions after 2.5 hours of gameplay I’ll update my feedback throughout my flight. Hopefully you take these things into consideration. Also in case my bug report gets lost in the sauce I’ll put it here as well, when you tab out and come back the audio bugs out and some things end up muffled.

Final thoughts on the flight, controller definitely needs looked at, mouse and keyboard feels substantially better.

My thoughts on each gun so far, MA40 AR needs a slight damage buff or slightly better accuracy, Pulse Carbine the projectiles need to move slightly faster, BR 75 something is off here too but I can’t tell exactly, maybe bloom?, VK78 Commando I originally thought the recoil needed changed or something but after playing with it further I feel like this is in a good spot. MK50 Sidekick is the best feeling gun in the game hands down, Plasma Pistol feels like it should I have to admit I don’t use this enough when there aren’t vehicles, CQS48 Bulldog slow down the fire rate and make it a one shot within 3-4m, it needs to still be able to effectively counter the hammer and sword, Heatwave feels fine shooting vertically, horizontally it might be a bit weak especially with the long reloads for the full magazine, Needler feels okay might combine a little too quickly, S7 Sniper the feel of it is great however sometimes on a no scope headshot it doesn’t one shot the enemy I don’t know if this is a bug or if it was intended, Skewer if the projectile continues going after impact on a person to make collateral kills possible then it feels great if not then speed the reload up just a bit to make it on par with rockets and the sniper, Ravager feels decent as well the charged shot might need to tick for more damage and last less time on the ground, M41 SPNKR this feels like it’s in a good place as well.

Maps look amazing and the feel is still Halo but different at the same time.

Customization is nice I look forward to seeing what you have in store for us. I will say when it comes to the AI I would like to see the ability to test example voice lines before choosing, or the options to change the voice and personality so each specific shape can be made even more unique. With the weapon and vehicle skins it would be nice to be able to put our emblem on the items.

I’m pretty excited to see the final product, having been a Halo player since late in the CE days and playing in LAN tournaments on H3 and Reach. Overall it’s looking pretty well done aside from the feel of some guns. Graphically the game looks great, I ran into only a few bugs, and the performance was there on PC and my Series X so once the controller situation gets resolved I think parity between the two will be fine.

Thanks for the time and allowing us to test out the flight, here’s to hopefully many more.

The Good:
The UI for the main menu and in-game worked without any issues.
The bots, although easy on Marine and ODST were working just fine.
The connection once in a match was also great.

The Bad:
Out of the 3 maps in the flight, I only found matches on Live Fire.
Performance was somewhere between 50 and 59, but never 60 fps, graphics options didn’t help in any way.
Every now and then, when searching for a match, the game goes into a black loading screen and then goes back to the main menu.
Every time I start the game it resets my controller and keyboard & mouse settings.
When the game asked me to enter my email address, I wasn’t able to write “@”, I had to copy and paste it.
The 3 body types barely changed how the spartan looked at all, unlike Halo Reach and Halo 4.
No customization for Spartan voice and ability to turn of AI voice.
Spartan customization screen and match intro are zoomed in on my 21:9 monitor.

The frame rate being almost locked at 60fps is really annoying. I have a 2060 with a i7-7700k at 4.9GHz and I only play at 1920x1080 and I can only play at 60fps no matter the settings. I sit at 20-40% Gpu usage and 70% Cpu usage. Screen shake is terrible, the slider feels like it does nothing and I’m on a damn wooden roller coaster everywhere I run. Also there’s no full screen? I always click out of the game when making flicks in close quarters and I just feel like even in a beta there should at least be a Full Screen option. But other then that I feel like head-shots should do a bit more damage, I dump bullets into the training range bots and taking a entire mag to kill a bot from 10ft away is a bit stupid. Maps are fun though I really like them and I cant wait to see real pvp on them. All in all I would say a 6/10 so far

In general, after the first flight so far

  • The biggest item is the optimization, and that I think we all expect to get better over time, although currently, it was pretty rough. The game visually is looking very good on PC so far although not the prettiest game I think we’ve seen, it looks as good as it needs to imo. The main thing would be just making it run better. - Similarly, the frame timing, the input delay, it all feels a bit off and could use improvement - Controller on PC for whatever reason actually feel worse than any previous titles, the aim assist doesn’t need to be upped dramatically or anything I think what’s there just needs to be tuned better in terms of strength and deadzone to feel better to play (although it does seem like settings gives some really strong options here which is nice) - Controllers are sometimes slow to be recognized when first plugged in, sometimes it may take a minute or 2 before the controller becomes recognized and usable after launching the game, I think this may be partially due to steam though. - There seems to be a lot of flicker/pop-in issues observed when navigating between menus - In terms of ultrawide support, the armor hall emblems for everything are off and look odd like they’ve been scaled incorrectly (a minor thing but still) - Lots of “shimmering” textures on the menus and loading screens for some reason, can be a bit distracting. - The screen shake slider itself is either bugged on PC, or isn’t strong enough in toning it down for those that want it toned down - The ability to turn off the HUD entirely and also tweak FOV is AWESOME. HOWEVER, I reeeaallly don’t like the fact that the no hud option also disables the sights on guns like the BR where the gun actually has sights built in, it’s silly and breaks the emersion.

Thank you for the invite to the Flight, I am enjoying it very much. One thing I wanted to mention was when joining a game in progress the game audio gets “messed” up. Levels fluctuate. Shots are muffled and voice audio gets super high.

If you turn off vsync you can set the maximum to uncapped

Personally the FOV (even at lowest settings) on the MCC on PC always felt odd to me (to a point that I dont like playing multiplayer on Pc in MCC…)
It is so different compared to the one on Xbox One/X…

So far I am thoroughly enjoying the gameplay, and I’m having a ton of fun learning the new maps and systems. However, I am currently running on a Ryzen 5700XT. Any video settings changes I’ve applied hold relatively well during Academy gameplay, but in actual online matches my game is struggling to hold a steady 60fps. textures come out looking grainy and jagged and it’s as if graphics quality is trying to “adapt” around being unable to hold the framerate. I don’t have anything enabled that should change video quality based on frames. Has anyone found any fixes for this, or is it simply a result of the flight being a little buggy?

The game on PC feels pretty solid. I would say that the default button mapping for gameplay and frame rate settings are a bit off. The default frame rate is 28. I think a good starting point for many would be 30min 60max. It would be nice if there was an option to have a tiny frame rate indicator on the top corner of the HUD for PC players as well.

The buttons for the UI are just fine to me.

I would like the effects quality to be expanded so that players can turn off specific effects. It seems (at least for me) it causes graphical issues when turned on medium-high. Everything looks kind of fuzzy and produced static (what appears to be moving pixels) from distant assets. Turning it to Low makes the game more clear/crisp. It could be a specific effect quality causing this. I reported it as a bug as I am unsure.

Overall PC has some bugs, but game play and UI navigation is solid.

In general everything has gone very well on PC, I am playing with an i7 10700K and an RTX 2070 SUPER. However, it is true that sometimes it costs him to keep the 60fps stable, having drops in some of the three maps (especially in Live Fire), putting himself in about 48-55fps. I’m playing at 2k resolution and graphic settings all on high.
