Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

Sounds stupid but give it about 5 minutes. First time I booted it felt like it was frozen but I went away and came back to the main menu few minutes later :slight_smile:

midgame, crashed when I hit alt to swap grenades while holding shift to sprint (though could have been poor timing). Game runs pretty nicely at 60 with very few frame drops on my GTX 3060. EDIT: Can confirm it’s the alt shift thing, happened twice

With a wide FOV setting the camera clips through your Spartan’s waist.

I’ve noticed that in 21:9 aspect ratios some of the menus (particularly Armor Hall) are not positioned correctly. My spartan’s head is off canvas.

Since everyone is sharing frames, I’m using a 3080 with a 2580X1080 screen, max settings pulling around 160 fps.
I have a list I’m compiling for the questionnaire coming out on the 2nd, but I’ll post what I have here, for meow.

Prosthetics don’t change to other prosthetics unless unequipped, sometimes unequipping unequips a different prosthetic.
Battlepass and equipment is unintuitive to navigate (opinion)
Sometimes bots will stop moving entirely
Bots will pass up power weapons dropped by a killed player
Sometimes full screen window mode will still show toolbar (PC)
Closing game and reopening game will cause settings to reset
Most of the time 3 stars don’t show they’ve been earned in the gun range mode
Some experience should be gained through earning 1, 2 and 3 stars in the gun range mode (opinion)
Challenges in multiplayer are the only way to earn experience (??)
Drop shield has multiple charges (Not sure if this is intentional)
Sharp edges cause aberrations (Max settings)
Easiest bots [7/29/2021] are too difficult for some people (opinion)
Bought experience booster through the store, and was unsure how or unable to use it

Hope everyone is having a blast. I love it so far, feels very halo. Glad I got to get into this tech test and give some feedback. Nose to the grindstone 343, we’re almost through this. Love the hard work

Game extremely low res regardless of resolution and quality settings. Settings resetting after game restart. Online play not working at all, only weapon drills.
RTX2080 Super, Ryzen 7 5800x, 32GB ram

-Pressing Left ALT key on grenade pickup crashes game
-Remapping ANY KEY to push to talk crashes game
-Stuttering
-Low FPS on high end hardware
-Config resetting every game launch
-Terrible controls and mapping

So far I have had two instances of either crashes or issues that make the game unplayable, both have occurred mid-match.

First time I pressed tab to check my stats as I respawned and the scoreboard remained on screen for the rest of the match completely obscuring my vision.
The second completely crashed the game when I pressed ALT to swap grenade types from normal frags to plasma nades.

This is what the tech tests are for I guess.

My game loads on start up for like 1 minute, hear the halo intro music for 1 sec and then crashes.

How are PC players only getting Xbox Invites?

game seems to crash after using the xp boosts, and continues to crash for the entire duration of the boosts.

i fiddled around with the controls, the game now crashes everytime I try to rebind a button

Tested on a GTX 1660 Super & i5 9700f at 1920 x 1080, high graphics preset. I can get 60fps without problems, with an average of 55-58fps.

1080p i77700hq + gtx 1070 65% of use
I can´t achive 60fps in low I hope in the final game the optimization will be better

have run into a good few issues

  • On 32:9 monitor the Models in Spartan customisation are zoomed in - performance is rough no matter the settings, even at a consistent 60fps you get stuttering - Resolution & settings seem to have no effect on performance - low CPU usage (25%) on Ryzen 3900x - apparently less than 10% GPU usage on RTX 2080 - outlines of weapons can sometimes be seen through the weapon holder regardless of it being open to pick up or notsystem info

    reinstalling has reduced the crazy stutter somewhat but it is still present.

The customization menu is really glitchy. I consistently have armor coating issues where the wrong color is selected. Or it won’t stay on. Also the battle pass will hopefully be a little more Grindy.

3090 here with 32gigs ram and an amd ryzen 5 3600xt and i’m getting about 100+100 fps on ultra settings @1440p

Technical Bugs

  1. Experienced some performance issues upon first launch, with low framerates and constant stuttering. After a relaunch of the game though (and setting minimum framerate to 72), performance has drastically improved (at the sacrifice of quality/resolution).
    Current play setup is:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core Processor
    GPU: NVIDIA 2070 SUPER
    RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3000MHz
    Resolution: 2560x1440p

  2. While graphics settings remain as their changed values upon exiting and restarting the game, controller settings do not. What settings I’ve been changing regarding the controller:

  • Control Scheme: Recon
  • Hold to Crouch: Enabled
  • Auto Clamber: Disabled
  • Auto Step: Disabled
    As stated before, these settings reset to their defaults upon restarting the game.
  1. Sometimes, a fireteam will not load into the same game together. Causing some players to wait before being allowed in the match, or having to wait until the game is over.
    Steps to reproduce:
  • Have a party of at least 2-4.
  • Search for a game.
  • When the bug happens, all players will be greeted with a loading screen. After this loading screen, some players will be kicked back to the main menu - their spot replaced with bots until another player joins.
  1. Friends with 9XX Series Graphics cards (960, 970, 980 Ti) will not be able to load the main menu. They receive a GPU Hang error according to their crash_dump.txt file: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

  2. NVIDIA Overlay will not work, as the mouse is still detected in the game only (could be an error on NVIDIA’s end).

  3. The Steam Web browser will not work when typing in an address, as the key inputs are detected in game.

Gameplay Bugs

  1. When playing with mouse and keyboard, holding tab and hitting escape in sequence will cause the HUD to disappear (reported by a friend who uses Mouse and Keyboard).

  2. Sometimes, the pathing of the bots will screw up near the Overshield/Active Camo pylon on Live Fire.

  3. Like number 2, running into the middle of two or more bots while fully cloaked with Active Camo will confuse the bots, and they’ll run around in circles around you.

Gameplay Specific Feedback
Will just jot these down quickly:

  1. Frag grenades right now kind of remind me of the Halo Reach Beta frag grenades - as in they seem a bit overpowered.
  2. The Heat Gun seems a bit underpowered right now.
  3. On the topic of grenades, it seems the best way to avoid them is to slide in the opposite direction they were thrown (IE, to the thrower).
  4. Slayer respawn time is a bit too long. Maybe drop it down to 6 seconds? Of course, I don’t have enough experience playing the other maps yet - maybe it is necessary.

UI Specific Feedback

  1. Add in the ability to preview coatings and armor before equipping them.
  2. Equip button was a bit hard to pin down on controller. Maybe include the “Lore” when hovering over the specific piece and return “equip” to “A” on controller.
  3. The background scenes are a bit intensive on hardware right now. Could just be an optimization issue though.
  4. When in a fireteam, the “News” box covers the preview of all the fireteam members chilling on the crates in the foreground when not the fireteam leader.

Minor Nitpick (Unimportant/non-serious feedback)

  1. Return the Killing Frenzy and Running Riot medals back to their trilogy colors (Green and Purple)! It would help make a distinction between the Running Riot and Rampage medals as well (they’re both the same shade of yellow right now). Also the Nightmare medal is sick looking.
  2. The zoom for the BR and Sniper feel more zoomed-in than in previous games.
  3. I miss being able to turn my death camera around while waiting to respawn, both of around my own corpse and living teammates. Maybe bring it back as a custom games option?

Final Thoughts
I love what we’re seeing so far. The art style, the map (Live Fire), the plans for the future, etc. The cherry on top - it feels like Halo too! The BR is back and better than ever, the Commando is a worthy successor to the DMR, the new weapons are a blast to use (Sidekick is very worthy of its name), and the Spartan Chatter is kind of hilarious! Can’t wait to see the new maps and what will be in store for future flights.

Okay, upon launching the game - The loading screen will go for about five minutes before the music starts to play. A few seconds after, still the loading screen and the game just crashes, checked reddit and it seems to a problem with mostly 900 series card users, and even some RTX 2000 and 3000 series owners. I’m sure this is a big ask, and I am sure you guys are working your butts off ironing out these issues - But it might be best to extend the flight, that way everyone can get a fair share and maybe more issues can be ironed out - and a larger map can be added to fully stress test the engine.

Hi, enjoying the preview, however there are some few pc specific problems that I am encountering. One is the terrible performance regardless of what settings I am running at. I have an nvidia rtx 3060ti and cannot get a stable 60 fps. The maximum and minimum framerate option could be a slider like the FOV slider or allow to change using a controller. Allow for higher sensitivty of controller. This next part is a thought for the gameplay. While it feels like the older halo, which is good, is there a possibilty of disabling stuff like sprint and sliding in the future, or have specific servers for making it feel pretty much like classic halo? Overall the gameplay is quite good and experience has been decent so far. The bots are very good. In terms of pc specific feedback, some sort of dynamic resolution upscaler and AMD FSR implementation?
