Performance is bad enough to just not play. Running at a god-awful 90 fps with constant stuttering. Pretty sure the fps counter is a lie cause it’s actually worse than when the master chief collection first came out on pc, and I stopped playing that until the H4 update came out a year after. Would be nice for the tech to actually work a little bit during the tech preview… Also why the hell isn’t there a full-screen option? Seriously is this even a real game build that you guys do things on? What are you running the game on that any of this seems like it will give you good data? I have a 2070S so I know for a damn near fact that more than 90 percent of your pc players are running this game sub-60 fps on low settings. Or am I mistaken in thinking that game performance on pc hardware is “tech”? Cause I’m not seeing much tech here that’s worth showing off imho.
To sum up my experience overall so far in pros and cons:
Pros:
- Every weapon feels unique and useful in different situations so far.
- Friend or foe ID is easy to notice and works well. Although I notice a delay on freshly spawned enemies ( I didn’t see them spawn very often, maybe 3 times on Live Fire ).
- Sprint feels like it’s in a good place for Halo, no cheesy instant thrust or evade and I love that. It feels like it will help you rush a power weapon but not escape a fight very well and that’s what I hope we all want.
- Weapon sounds are all very punchy and sounds in general are great.
- Massive amount of settings to adjust to ones liking.
- Maps seem solid but I hope for more of a visual variety come launch.
- Bots are actually quite fun to play against. (Looking forward to playing Spartan bots tomorrow)
- Love the weapon drills, hope we get driving courses too lol.
- Only experienced one crash so far.
- Spawns are not perfect but seem a step up from previous games…I could stand to be corrected here. I saw a few bots spawn and I feel you should not spawn within line of sight or in a set distance from an enemy.
- Not sure if power weapon and power up rotation per game is for testing or intentional but what a cool thing it would be to see it stay. It can be a fairly nice way to change things up every game and I like it.
Cons:
-
MOUSE USER The biggest one for me by far is having zoomed weapon sensitivity decreased by default. (In the menu’s it has 1.40x zoom showing sensitivity scale at 1 but clearly feels slower, this feels even worse picking up a sniping weapon) Personally I feel hip fire and all zooms should have the exact same base sensitivity and be adjusted from there as it’s hard to build muscle memory otherwise. I am sure if I took enough time to go through all the zooms I could get them feeling close to the same or slightly slower at higher zooms but it’s a very unnecessary hassle.Unless I’m on crack…which I’m not, I think MCC is this way but picking up a sniper felt very odd by default to me. Also, having an open firing range where one isn’t timed to work on their sensitivity would be fantastic. NOTE: Upon returning to MCC shortly there is default decrease in scope sensitivity but it does not feel nearly as profound. An open firing range with bots that can have behavior adjusted on the fly would be amazing to dial in a good sensitivity and not be timed in a drill.
-
I have been bugged joining in progress being spawned in the floor, a bot killed me but no menu popped up for respawn. I could fire my weapon and hear it but had no UI and had to leave as I respawned and could fire again but my screen stayed in the same place. (This bug happened once)
-
Many games have gone to black screen and returned to lobby or have been stuck and I’ve had to close and re-open the game…resulting in key bind reset.
-
“R” key to start matchmaking in post game lobby starts but randomly stopped for me, I had to back out to menu every time.
-
Setting Minimum framerate too low felt like it had a massive impact on performance, even disabling it seems to default it to 60fps. I set 144/144 min to max and was averaging 60-100 fps on medium - ultra. FOV obviously had a huge impact on that as I played around with it. Obviously there will be much more optimization between now and launch so not too concerned in this area. It’s why we’re testing.
-
Since Halo 2, when a teammate is killed it displays a red X over their corpse as we all know. In this new friend or foe system I do notice the X indicator above their heads is still blue upon death (or whatever color you have applied to teammates). This is totally understandable as it could get confusing as enemies are red but being able to customize the color of a teammates death marker would be a cool feature. There were a few times a teammate being dead did not register in my brain as the X was blue. I do like the yellow exclamation mark indicating they are under attack though! Also these blue X’s are also on the scoreboard and sort of tough to see when tabbing on the scoreboard. Super small nit pick and could be adjusted to with putting in more time.
-
I did not play much Halo 5 as I had moved on to PC by the time it released but obviously feel loss stat should be prevented in a join in progress situation. I would assume H5 already had this but felt it worth mentioning.
-
Triple key binds are awesome, I am hopeful for combined key binds. (Example hold down shift or alt and press 1) Binding equipment on combined key binds would be amazing but I’m probably like 1 in 30 000 pc players who would use that lol.
-
I think it is hard sometimes to see if I have popped an enemies shields (Maybe a yellow spark or neutral color for shield breaks consistent with teammates and enemies would help pronounce this tell when shields break?).
-
Key binds and mouse sensitivity are often reset when I close the game…it’s -Yoink!-. (This has happened way too often over two days, even for a tech test)
-
We need the ability to remove key binds by holding escape or something when binding a key, Having a warning for unbinded keys at the top would be cool too.
-
Upon joining a game my screen stayed dark and when I moved my mouse it started to flicker. I was able to bring up a menu with great effort on the flashing screen and quit by navigating via keyboard. When getting back to main menu everything worked fine again. (This bug happened once)
-
The Assault Rifle is a literal Saw at times.
-
Scoreboard gets bugged and invisible until I close and re-open the game. Rebinding campaign menu/scoreboard explodes the game (crashes).
-
I expected more of Spartan bots, they need to go back to the range for a bit and go bench a few tons in the gym.
-
FOV reset every single time I closed the game, crash/alt+F4 or menu closed.
-
Start Matchmaking sometimes fails and the search just stops at random.
-
Black screen post game sometimes goes on for what seems like forever.
Far more to be optimistic about here than negative, I think we’re in for a treat this fall. I am happy this feels closer to Halo 2/3 with a balanced sprint and equipment is back in favor of armor abilities and over the top movement. Going back to it’s roots but it feels fresh, I am hyped.
- I think a more detailed description of bullet magnetism would be good in the menu. Lots of people are saying mouse has aim assist which is not entirely accurate.
Cheers!

Is it possible we could get custom reticles like Overwatch and CSGO?

> I want to keep testing today but i have work early tomorrow and the load times are killing me and with the constant crashes its making that all the more prominent
when my slide was set to alt it crashed every few slides i switched it back to ctrl and it stopped
Few notes that I’ve experienced so far:
Push to Talk default key was mouse four or five. Rebound the button to melee and when I went to rebind PTT it now crashes my game every time. Tried a dozen different keys to bind no difference. Always does it.
Not sure if it’s slow to load and I don’t have the patience, but when looking at the season pass rewards, item pictures often don’t load.
When I am the player that joins a game in progress I often don’t have audio. It’s happened 3 times. Always on Live Fire.
This may be a known issue, but it does not save my previous score or star rating when I do Weapon Drills.
Matchmaking can glitch out. If I don’t restart matchmaking from post game lobby and instead back out to main menu the game often says its started match making when it hasn’t. No infographic on bottom saying looking for players, connecting, or loading map. Weapon drill menu will say “In Progress”. Have to close and restart game to fix.
-Female Spartans/ Voice
-Mute Player Option
-Double Click to apply skins, not inspect then equip, takes too long
-change weapons in the firing drills, maybe on a rack, press a button to start/select drills instead of going back to the menu.
-Option to move HUD elements to the top/ change them etc. make them like Halo 3
-skip endscreen option
-should be able to color each piece of armour different
-ping of each player while hold TAB
-mix and match armour pieces like MCC different limbs as well.
-be able to hear AI’s voice when selecting them in menu
-able to mouse over the firing drills to see different weapons
-make bots -Yoink!- rarely
-ui to say if we complete challenges mid game
-Custom reticles
-would like to see people that are walking on minimap
What a masterpiece! Absolutely loving the tech preview and everything this game is shaping up to be come launch. Been finding a couple of serious issues with hit registration during game play either being shot through walls or finishing off a kill while defensively running around a corner. I have also experienced bots throwing grenades in my direction while looking somewhere else as well as their laser aim.
Also I don’t know if the challenges are supposed to not reset during the preview or I am just unlucky but I have been chilling at battlepass 9 for like 3 hours now with no way of swapping challenges or progressing with unlocks.
Weapon and ammo display on HUD seems somewhat wonky at times. Goes in and out every now then. Application wise I think it was better when that infinite was displayed in the top right. What do you guys think?
Playing on PC running an AMD Ryzen 7 3700x and an RTX 3070 and I am experiencing considerable frame rate drops. Frame rate and general performance are not very good.
Even on the lowest settings, I am experiencing frame rate drops and stuttering.
However, the gameplay is really solid, I am loving the tech preview. These issues can be ironed out, but the core gameplay loop seems to be very good.

Performance is very poor with the current build we got to test, playing in 1080p with the minimum fps target set to 60 and all settings on low or off and i get an average 40 fps, minimum is 30, highest maybe 50 to 60. The bad fps makes it problematic to aim and play at times. I’m aware this is an older preview build we got to test but i really hope the final release will run A LOT better because this just seems pretty nuts how bad it runs. Checking my GPU and CPU usage i noted that the game basically only uses about half of both parts, so it’s basically creating an artificial bottleneck where the game’s refusing to use my full specs.
Other noted problems :
- Not sure if netcode is bad or we simply have no EU servers in the preview, hoping it’s the later cause there’s a lot of delay to shots being registered on targets i fire at which makes it at time seem like hitboxes are broken, makes it hard to judge if it’s just the far away server, netcode or hitboxes at fault here. - Game crashes frequently, usually when booting up or after a match ends, sometimes resulting with the AMD drivers even poping up telling me something went wrong, only happens in Infinite preview build. - Game randomly resets options, things like FOV, mouse sensitivity, M&K keybindings and view-model positions get reset when rebooting the game. - UI half the time doesn’t register or save what you pick in the Armory menu. - Melee weapons like gravity hammer have a high tendency of making you phase through the enemy you’re lunging at to kill, which results in your character phasing through the enemy and allowing the enemy to just slap you in the back of the head to instantly drop you. (An example clip : hammerneedswork ) - Changing UI positions removes the aim reticle - Bot AI is not bad but has its problems, some matches they tend to derp out on certain pathing areas a bit and sometimes their perception on who’s the bigger threat fails pretty hard, have seen and experience it myself when all 4 bots will focus hard on one single player in an area, allowing the other 3 players free-reign to shoot the bots, doesn’t happen often but sometimes they just seem to get severe levels of tunnel vision against a specific player that makes them blind for a few seconds to threats that are more dangerous and nearer to them. - It feels like there needs to be somewhat more feedback when you’re taking damage, sometimes just feels hard to notice that you’re having lead being pumped into you.
Serious stuttering problems
I use a controller with my pc and I noticed if you use a xbox one s controller I noticed if you switch both your move deadzone inner and outer to 12.5 for inner and 10.0 for outer you are able to move a lot smoother also if you move your look deadzone’s to 12.5 inner and 11.0 outer with a look acceleration of 4 and a look sensitivity to 4.5 on both horizontal and vertical you get a better smoother aim I don’t know how it will do on other xbox controller’s but it seems to be working great for the one s controller.
The game used to run at around 50-60 fps regardless of graphics settings (system specs below) but I found out that setting minimum and maximum FPS to the highest non-custom setting, which in my case is 144FPS, the game runs at a solid 120 FPS then. There’s still frame pacing issues which can clearly be seen when turning in a constistent motion. Changing graphics settings then to ultra gives a mild drop in FPS, but nothing drastic.
My system specs are the following:
- Intel i7 7700k
- 16GB DDR4 memory running at 2700MHz
- Geforce GTX 1080 Ti
- 500GB SATA SSD + 2 TB HDD
Game’s installed on the SSD as well.
Game has been great but when i came back for the 7g update the game is very hitchy and frame stuttering - steam is registering about 145 fps but the game is so hitchy its very hard to lock in sensitivity and alot harder to “GRIND” than before. Keep up the good work!!

1440p - Low Settings - 165/165 FPS settings
- There’s been some sort of latency since the technical preview has released. It feels like my shots were always slow to register. For example, finishing someone with the pistol felt like I was shooting projectiles.
- FPS setting are pretty weird. fps is capped at the minimum fps setting. I set this to 165/165 to get the most out of the fps. Average around 80-100 fps.
- Visuals between low settings and ultra don’t look any different, but performance does increase when lowered. Doesn’t seem like too much of an issue for me.
- Need native full screen.
- Borderless window causes issues when wanted to play 1080p sometimes.
- Players attempting to duplicate weapon pickups by picking them up at the same time crashes the server. This has been tested three times when attempting to pick up the sniper in Live Fire at the same time as a teammate and we both get one.
- Maybe not so much of an issue as just a comment: The bots, while a very good display of the AI you have going on over there, every now and then one will channel their inner John Wick and be completely unstoppable with the pistol from long range. It feels unnatural.
- Latest patch has caused major stuttering issues. This mixed with the latency issues, IMO, makes the game very uneasy to play. Felt sick after a couple games today and decided to wait till something is resolved.
Firstly, hats off to you guys. Seriously promising stuff loved it so far, however since the update getting serious stutter and hitching, hopefully you’ll revert back as I don’t think I can play in the current state.
Really looking forward to future flights and the full release though congrats!.
Erratic framerate and latency today (even worse than before). Frames as low as 20 but never more than 80. Graphical settings don’t seem to effect my framerate, same results on low or ultra.

If you are crashing when pressing alt or shift alt I fixed it by
pressing the windows key+i go to time and language, then select language, then select keyboard, then select input language hot keys, highlight between input languages then press change key sequence, select not assigned for both of them press ok then apply. I haven’t crashed while pressing alt since while it was happening pretty much every time before
I’m unable to get into any bot slayer lobbies. I queue up, it says it found a game but then it the loading screen sends me straight back to the main menu. Weapons drills work fine though.
Game needs some optimization to bring performance up. With ultra settings I get 40-70 FPS at 1440p. I also crashed twice while changing keybinds. Game settings do not save when rebooting the game. I have to apply the settings each time the game boots up.
