Infinite Tech Preview – PC Specific Feedback

My system is running the game with a Ryzen 7 1800x and a Nvidia RTX 3080 and am only getting about 60 FPS on a 2560px1440p 144hz monitor, even when lowering all video settings to their lowest configuration. I’m unaware if this is because of the “Maximum FPS” setting or if the game is poorly optimized. The game feels a bit clunky and slow compared to other FPS games such as Destiny 2 and Overwatch on my system, which run at the max FPS, which I have capped at 144fps. This is acceptable if the relatively low frame rate is because the maximum is capped at 59 fps for the technical preview. If, however, this is because of poor game optimization, this sorely needs to be remedied, because it significantly hinders the game in comparison with other AAA titles in the shooter genre.

On top of this, I feel like the UI/UX is a bit bloated compared to other Halo games, including the more recently overhauled MCC for PC. It also feels very clunky and a bit hard to navigate compared to previous installations of the game. I feel like this is definitely most apparent in the arsenal (armor, gun and vehicle customization menus), where large buttons take you through several layers of menus just to select colors or armor options that require a lot of scrolling. Customization options in Halo: Reach, Halo 4, and Halo 5: Guardians were all clearer and easier to navigate because they required less user interaction and took up less of the screen to present the same information to the user.

got invited to flight test on pc through windows Xbox insider and it’s not showing up

I’ve got a reproducable crash, currently playing on PC with default keybinding, if I try to swap grenade as soon as I pick some up (alt key) the game freezes up.

Few issues on PC

  • FPS is generally around 40-60 fps with GPU usage sitting around 60% (RTX 2070s) - The menu UI (mainly the armoury) is really awkwardly crushed on a 21:9 monitor, my spartan doesn’t fit on the screen so whenever I go to change something my Spartans head is off the top of the screen so viewing helmets isn’t the greatest or when viewing weapons they also appear to the top of the screen and cut off. - UI is a little clunky I think a grid system for armour selection and skins is much more efficient use of the screen real-estate rather than a horizontal list based system especially for mouse and keyboard users. - All settings reset every time the tech test is launched. - Occasional crashes when joining games (not sure on the trigger)
    Gameplay wise

  • Honestly I know people say it all the time but I think sprint generally does seem pointless since now the speed increase is so little that it might as well be the base movement speed, if sprint needs to stay just up the speed a tad as right now I cannot see the much purpose to using it. - heatwave projectile speed could do with a slight buff but that’s a nit-pick.

Ryzen 5 2600x with a GIGABYTE GTX 1650 and 16GB of RAM (~10-12 GB free), with the medium preset on 1920x1080 the game is around 45 FPS with V-sync off.

Also after an hour of playing the build feels like it gets more unstable with menu UI flickering, and sounds getting distorted. Best example is how the UNSC Sniper had it’s sounds sorta muffled. I have experienced ONE hard-crash to desktop once when I was in the main menu changing my keybinds.

However, during gameplay I have not seen much of a performance drop. I have been kicked out of queuing for the shooting range and the bot match multiple times.

PC optimization is really whack. 5600x and 3070 is hitting about 1080p 90fps, 1440p 50-60fps. TAA is nice and all but would prefer an alternative to those who dont like TAA but run at a resolution where jaggies are lessened like SMAA or FXAA or have an option to disable TAA. Add a comparison reference to what each setting does interms of graphics settings. The network statistics does not work showing only 0ms every game

Haven’t been able to load a single match since release. Every time matchmaking completes, I just get the black loading screen until I’m back on the main menu. it is also takes upwards of 10 minutes from the game to boot to the log in screen.
I’m playing on an RTX 2080 with a Ryzen 7 5800X, the game is loaded onto an NVME M.2 drive and I have near gigabit internet speeds. I haven’t been able to find a workaround.

Unable to launch any multiplayer games. Drills work fine. Other online games working fine. Reinstalled twice.

Every time the game will find a match, then display a black screen for ~30 seconds, then simply return to the MM lobby. Rinse and repeat.

Occasionally (~10% or so) it will display a “connection lost” error.

i got invited for PC through windows store but its not showing any key or download options

in “my flights” its shown as "Halo Waypoint July Preview - web " while my xbox invite is shown as " July Tech Preview - xbox "

Please allow true fullscreen, windowed borderless not only has input lag but it reduces the performance by so much. Borderless is not viable for competitive, please allow true fullscreen for the next flight.

Performance feedback
Specs:
CPU: i5 8400
GPU: 1060 3gb
RAM: 16gb ddr4
game runs around 60-70fps at 80% resolution scale of 1080p but they stutter a lot, especially on the new map in the flight. i believe there would be a higher framerate if fullscreen was available, i had similar performance with all the other halo games, terrible and input lag when borderless but then its all fixed with true fullscreen. navigating the menu with the mouse works most of the time, however sometimes in the academy i’ll click a weapon like the sniper and it’ll put me on a different weapon because the ui glitches out. theres no issues navigating with the arrow keys though that i’ve noticed. another thing is sometimes when you try to load academy, it will start loading the weapon drill and the music will stop, but it won’t load the weapon drill. you can’t restart the loading because it just repeats the same thing, and the entire game just stops working until you restart it, even queueing into matchmaking doesn’t work.

Launch issue with latest Windows 10, Nvidia Driver on RTX 2080 TI w/ i9 on NVME. Just a black screen with loading dots. Attempting possible fixes such as verifying integrety, restart, etc.

I’m sure this has been covered by plenty of people but figured I might as well add mine in as well. AMD optimization is tragic. I played for 45 minutes on 1080p LOW settings and averaged 36 FPS. While playing in bot matches I was running at a pretty steady 25 FPS. Hopefully the next preview goes better.

Similar feedback here to add to the general consensus in terms of performance:

CPU: Ryzen7 3700x
GPU: ASUS STRIX VEGA 64
RAM: 16 GB DDR4 @ 3200 Mhz
Recommended Driver Version for the Flight (21.7.2)

Resolution: 3440x1440 @ 100 HZ (But in this case, only pain, definitely not 100 FPS, lol)

The performance is very…meh although still playable. I can manage a maximum of about 35 FPS.
Oddly, it doesn’t really seem to make much difference at all what setting I’m on exactly. I tried the default (which tries to set to around medium) and get about 32 FPS, whereas low seems to maybe add 3 FPS tops. Similarly with high settings, still about 30-31 FPS.

I need to double check a bit more next how the utilization is looking but something tells me it might be a bit jank given I’m getting the same performance almost somehow on every setting, lol.

Either that or all the settings are just really similar.

Have set in with a couple hours worth of match times and weapon training. The weapons in all have felt good so far as a standpoint of damage to range effectiveness. Some do feel a bit underwhelming mainly shotgun based weapons even up close. Beside the slight relearning curve to halo again the game has been preforming well and with only couple minor bugs iv experienced it has been up to par with the content you have provided to us.

Within 28 minutes of play time I have crashed 4 times. PC has a 5950X and 6800XT running at High graphics. Each time it says there is a driver error but my AMD is updated with the latest driver 21.7.2. I have changed the FOV to 120 not sure if that could be the issue. I will change the FOV slider back to the recommended setting and see if that helps.

EDIT: Seems that having my FOV at 120 was the issue. I currently have it at 100 and have had no issues.

Defaulting comms to open mic is a crime. PTT by default on PC please!

I’ve had issues with my controls and FOV resetting after closing and relaunching the game.

I’m having the same issue, gpu/cpu is only at 50-60% utilization on low, but fps is still really low

I just tried to login for the first time with my MS account, the whole game crashed when I was trying to type in the “@” and switching between keyboard layouts to find a way to input the @.
