Hello, I’m ALPHAorWALLE, I’m one of the HALO Insiders that was Chosen to take part in the July 29th - August 2nd Halo Infinite - Insider Tech Preview for Console on the Xbox One S. I wasn’t sure where to send feedback for those who participated in the Tech Preview this weekend but I’ll just send it here. I’ll be sharing my thoughts by a list, under specific topics, and giving my overall thoughts & opinions over the Tech preview we few Console players were able to partake in. Be advised that some discussions are detailed, some might sound like a nit-pick, and others are based off on personal preview or probable preference and that I am aware this is a build of what’s currently being developed before the initial games release. So, here we go:
Weapons:
- The weapons that were part of this Tech Preview are amazing, the way they feel and shoot feel original including the handling for most and almost all weapons, however a few weapons are not so fortunate to be given this same review. The weapons are:VK78 Commando - This weapon is great and all but it feels more as a precision weapon like the DMR and can at times be a bit hard to keep on target both on a moving enemy or even sometimes a stationary enemy especially while aiming. A fix I would suggest is to decrease the recoil a bit to be slightly balanced and able to control and not sway up a lot as it did within this Tech preview.
S7 Sniper - It’s good to see the Sniper in Halo Infinite as well in the OG Halo games, but this Sniper feels a bit sluggish when using it both in the Academy Weapon Drills and against the Bots. It feels a bit uncontrollable to use, both while aiming and shooting with it both at hip and zoom-in into the sights. It also doesn’t feel like I am able to control it at times as sometimes while zoomed in and shot, I’ll get removed from the zoom, as expected, but will sway a bit away from where I was originally aiming or looking at. A fix I would suggest is to make it feel less sluggish and to clear up that small bug of getting swayed away from what you were aiming after getting shot while zoomed into scope.
Customization:
- I love how the customization is for Halo Infinite, both for Spartan and AI including the cosmetic items for weapons and vehicles. It makes each player/gamer unique within this universe by freely choosing which pieces to mix and match with that makes each and everyone of us unique, however, that isn’t the case for one part of the customization options which would be:Colors / Shaders for Spartans - I do love how the Customization is for Halo Infinite and also the Idea behind it in regards to Armor and AI. However, I do not like not like how we are limited to choosing preset colors to our armor that are given to us, similar to Destiny 1’s shader system, instead we should be able to choose our own colors to mix and match colors to our Spartans armor to better personalize ourselves and the whole idea that you, 343, are intending with this upcoming games customization. I feel that this system of shaders for our spartan would limit the customization options as based on previous titles such as Halo 4, Halo 5 and even Reach, we were all able to choose colors to mix and match with to make our own personalized Spartan. I feel that this must be addressed as not many would like to be limited to having colors chosen for them and instead we the player choosing ourselves to mix and match colors similar to previous Halo games to bring out the Idea that you, 343, are presenting with customization in regards to “Personalizing your Spartan”. A solution that I believe would work would be to either keep the system but allow an option to change the colors of that shader or make a camo system similar to this shader system where you can choose what colors go where on your Spartan and how it should be layered or fixed to make it unique and more personalized in some aspect of the current system placed for Halo Infinite as some shaders look oddly similar to Destiny’s shaders including Destiny 2.
Main Menu / UI:
Main Menu Background - The Menu looks amazing including the live background, I do love how it shows your Spartan and also your fireteam just waiting to get into battle. The only Bug or Glitch I saw within the Main Menu is how the Menu Glitches out and sometimes cuts to grey or even zooms into a part of the Menu screen which just shows its pixels. All in all, the way the menu is shaped and presented is great, similar to MCC’s Menu Screen.
Combat UI / Gameplay UI - This may seem like a bit of a ‘nit-pick’ but the way the UI for Gameplay seems a bit off compared to how the other halo games are. To me, I feel like the UI for this Tech Preview, and Halo Infinite as a whole, should be more open and alive like how we see it in MCC rather than enclosed just like how we see it in this Tech Preview. For the Grenade UI, it seems to be more ‘reserved’ and ‘hidden’ unlike how it is for the other Halo games where it’s all visible and we can clearly see which grenades we have and the ones we wasted or do not have; also, its placed exactly where the Weapon UI is located which is a bit ‘crowded’ thus making the entirety of the Gameplay UI dull and boring in regards to its placements and overall simpleness in my opinion. As for the Weapon UI, where it shows our weapons both holstered and currently equipped as well as our ammo, its fine, though I don’t think many would like its UI placement to be at the bottom right of the screen and rather at the top right just like how it is for all the other Halo MCC games. All in all, I do like the direction and art style that you, 343, are implementing into this game’s UI, it’s unique and very Halo-like in respects to its predecessors. A fix I would suggest would be allowing the player to customize their UI to make it feel ‘Halo’ like or just to customize to suit their visual needs during Gameplay.
