Been playing throughout the weekend and these are my thoughts after having at least 4-5 games for each game mode.
Total Control: Initial appeal is that its a messy brawl for 3 control points. I felt vehicle and player combat worked the best for this game mode because it wasn’t always the team with the most vehicles winning every match. However, the game is fairly dependent on RNG since you can spawn in at highly advantageous/disadvantageous positions. Sometimes i barely have to sprint for bit before I am back in combat, other times it is necessary to take a mongoose just to travel faster. I felt the the chaos (and fun) of BTB the most in this game mode.
Slayer: Not really my favorite game mode for BTB because of vehicle advantage. Despite this, I feel that all the extra weapons in the sandbox to deal with vehicles does even the odds slightly. I feel the score is just right at 100 but this may be due to personal preference. This is probably one of those games modes that really need a BR start since most people run straight for them.
CTF: Its very hit or miss for me. I’ve had many draws/close matches as it was just very difficult to get to the flag and pull away with it due to the defenders advantage. Maybe one thing that can make it more engaging is to increase the flag return time and reduce the flag return radius.
Weapons:
AR: I think the weapon is ok as it is, its mainly for close range encounters and loses badly to range weapons when you engage at range. You can still lose to a BR player with good aim but the disparity is not as bad as it was in other halo games. In BTB this weapon really feels unique since it has a effective range (somewhat) and it has to be used that way for a large map.
Pulse Rifle: Needs a buff for range or homing. It feels weird when the AR outranges this weapon and does better up close. Its also not as effective as the BR and commando at range so its very hard to use.
Plasma Pistol: The homing on the shot feels weak. I’ve noticed that the shot can miss at almost point blank range.
Weapon Cache: I think it should spawn more weapons.
Vehicles:
I think the appearance of vehicles from the pelicans should be more frequent/earlier. After so many games I have only seen the scorpion and wasp once, banshee twice.
Hi all!
Had a blast this weekend and enjoyed the MP way more this time in BTB.
What I liked:
Map Size. - Map elevation differences . - Varied flag spawns. - The Grappleshot was put to use. - Good clashing points om the map where both teams had epic fights. - Using the horn with a Mongoose or Warthog marks it for the team. - Really cool damage models of the vehicles. - Amazing sound design/effects on larger maps. Especially the might of the S7 Sniper.
Really nice visual effects of vehicles getts disabled. What I did not like:
Change or increase Warthog engine sound. The Warthog is and will always be an iconic vehicle but the sound it makes is just not good or cool. It also shifts which has never been the case. At least it sounded like a supercharged V8 in Halo 4. - The wheels of the vehicles spins way to slow making it look awkward, especially when driving fast. Very specific detail but it bothered me. - Pelican drops were a really cool feature but the animation for descending and ascending was not. Probably not done yet but still want to mention it as it’s iconic independent engines looks awesome when done correctly. - Somethings really of with the Assault Rifle. Hade very random moments where I could reach super far and get kills while some instances I couldn’t get people from behind at 10 m range. - Would love to see a presentation of the whole team at the beginning of the match, not just three. - The speed of the Warthog and Ghost I felt was to fast. I’m just guessing but it felt like 15% faster than previous games, or they reached top speed way to fast. - Motion sensor/radar is still off/too short.
Please give us the OG shotgun back! It’s one of the most iconic weapons in Halo, and it doesn’t feel right with it missing. The bulldog just isn’t satisfying to use. It takes way too many shots to kill someone, and isn’t fun to use at all.
Overall, I had a great time playing Halo Infinite this past weekend and I found the gameplay - be it multiplayer
or against bots - to be a lot of fun, and I see it as a success in keeping true to the Halo spirit. This I say having only Combat Evolved to compare with on Xbox, which to me is Halo as i know it. I dont have a lot to complain about really but a few things came to mind during my sessions.
Issues and few suggestions for changes:
-episodes of choppy laggy gameplay sometimes on Fragmentation map despite OK temperatures on cpu and gpu. Game would freeze for a whole second at a time.
-In the Customization menu, it describes some items and vehicles as “[rare] or [epic] core”. that doesnt make a lot of sense to me as theyre default and available to you as you start.
Shield Overcharge animation to activate it could be shortened a tad. This is naturally something you wanna activate immediately in action.
-In my opinion the M41’s area of top damage could also be increased (perhaps in conjunction with making it more rare and/or having less ammo).
Managed to crunch some game Saturday night and boy, I enjoyed them all even if I experienced a couple of episodes of heavy lag.
Still! No more EMP from the plasma pistol? We have other items that do that, yes, but removing it completely feels wrong (gameplay and lore-wise.) Maybe keep it but less powerful?
Also, in my games my vehicles had no crush damage. Nothing happened on impact with both the environment or other vehicles. Also in Arena. Is this a limit of the preview?
My opinion: 343 did good and BTB kicks butt. (Waypoint profanity filter - you know what I mean).
I see people complaining that they don’t get their vehicles instantly, and that heavies/planes come in too late. I disagree. This was a good choice, and a move away from the uber-casual vehicle-reliant BTB I remember. Gives “infantry warfare” a fighting chance where mantis / scorpion / banshee previously dominated.
Please don’t cave in now to make the Tanks / Wasps come in earlier. This is not Titanfall. And the Loot cave? I love it.
One point of complaint: I don’t personally know this, because I turned off dialogue (got tired of the AI and his dad-jokes), but people are saying you removed Jeff from the BTB? If so, please reinstate Jeff when possible. Very crucial to know about overkills and killing sprees. Thank you.
+The usual complaints from before:
TTK is very low on many weapons. Still not sure how this will fly with competitive console players. Many reports of aim problems across all platforms. Not limited to discussions about Aim Assist.
Non-negotiable aim acceleration and lack of linear aim-response curve. - Discrepancy in sensitivity horizontally and vertically - Seemingly inconsistent aim sensitivity. - Lack of explanation in controller settings - Suboptimal default values for deadzones - Potential server-side issues that can impact aiming.
I want to give my feedback on 2 things. I think the explosions look pretty bad. It looks like some 2D low-res pictures to be honest and that’s putting me off a little. I also really think the vehicle damage should be overhauled because, especially with the Ghost, you can’t tell the vehicle is about to explode except by listening for the explosion alarm. I didn’t pay attention the first time and it blew up. After it blew up, I even saw a guy trying to get into it during my respawn timer because you couldn’t tell it blew up at all
Total Control needs a new scoring system based of time.
As it is now, it’s a conquer and forget. This is not good at all because as soon as the third zone is captured there is no way to recover.
We need to hold the captured zones somehow, maybe we need to have and keep all tree zones to accumulate time to win the match or we have to keep all tre zone for 10 seconds or something to hit a score.
Zone spawn points should be more sparse, as it is now they spawn all on one side of the map or the other, so depending on which side a team is there is more o less possibility that when the zone are active two or more zones are already captured.
Respawn time is too many seconds, you already have to walk for ages before you can do anything for the team, there is no need to have to wait so many seconds to respawn.
I said walk because every vehicle is already gone, all the times. There are always very few vehicles and they are destroyed too easily, so you always find yourself walking. Vehicles are so easy to destroy and awkward to drive in such a complex map that most of the time they are not even used. The Ghost is perfectly at home in this map but the Warthog is not. Often happens to take an abandoned vehicle to be able to rush to the front in the shortest possible time, only to be destroyed upon arrival by the first Skewer hit received.
And wait again.

**Non-negotiable aim acceleration and lack of linear aim-response curve.**I hate this. It -Yoinks!- the aim so hard, and makes it really inconsistent. Let me turn that off.

Edit: I meant to edit my last post, not quote it lmao

I don’t want them to move away from the things we remember (which is to say, the things that many of us have grown to know and love). If they do move away from it, then they should also provide a place where those of us that liked it can have it too.
This is why I suggested they add a Heavies version of BTB where those that liked the uber-casual vehicle-reliant BTB can still enjoy it, in addition to this new, vehicle-lacking BTB.

But if they make both 4v4 arena and BTB about infantry warfare, then that would leave no place for vehicle warfare (unless they disregard your advice here and ramp up the vehicle presence in BTB, and/or add BTB Heavies like I suggested). There needs to be a place for vehicle warfare, it wouldn’t be good for the whole entire game to be about infantry warfare, you know?

Fair point, good sir. BTB heavies is the best way to solve this and scratch that itch for the mechanically minded players.
Je me suis vraiment amusé, la map était super bien adaptée, les véhicules aussi, les armes impeccables, aucun problème de jeu, aucun crachat, aucune baisse de FPS, rien de tout ça.
After having (finally) been able to play a Slayer match I would like to add another feedback to my previous ones.
Slayer
100 kills to win with 12 players per team makes battles too fast. Its less than 10 kills per player to win or loose. I think the point limit should be at least 150.
CTF
The only complaint is that the lack of vehicle and vehicle spawns means that if a team is able to bring the flag halfway through the map it is almost impossible to stop them (particularly if they are using a Warthog or Mongoose).
Total Control
I think it’s a bit too easy for a coordinated (or lucky with the spawn of the control zones) team to instantly win. Maybe a time delay of 60 seconds only after spawining the zone before giving the point could solve the problem.
General
I had the impression of ending up in the loosing team much more often than what randomly should have happened. Also I was able to play only one Slayer match and like three Total Control with the vast majority of matches being CTF. Not necessarly a problem with a larger player base and a mode selector.
Even regular ground vehicles are rare and take FOREVER to spawn, and don’t even get me started with the powerful vehicles. I would say it is a good idea to spawn them in later in the match, which the game is already doing. But too few vehicles are spawned in, so sometimes players don’t touch anything but a mongoose
I absolutely love this game! I’ve had so much fun over the infinite tech preview.
Good:
Maps feel well balanced and I love the btb sand box, it’s superb weapon placement and reinforcement timing have caused some incredible moments.
Controls feel smooth, aiming improved with sniper weapons. Sprint feels just the right speed.
Game pacing is perfect, I like the way weapon and vehicle drops seem to escalate during total control.
Connectivity issues from previous versions of flighting have improved (although aren’t gone). Ie crashing to the menu.
love the overshield and active camo mechanics; both feel balanced
bulldog feels more balanced
Still needs work:
There’s a rapid double beat down glitch
I think the pulse rifle is over-nerfed now; it vastly underperforms similar kinetic rifles and is too hard to get a final kill. Often the reticle looks like it will home but the plasma blasts never hit.
Ghost armor felt a little too strong
I wish plasma pistol still had some version of emp against vehicles
Time to vehicle stun felt confusing; the dynamo grenades had a short timing but the shock rifle took many hits?
The minimap distance should be increased for btb.
Loot cave should have an extra power weapon to outfit teammate. Or perhaps battle rifles or something to make the stakes higher.
Played quite a bit of BTB and enjoyed it for the most part. I’m not a big fan of the Banshee though. To me it felt a bit clumsy. I’d decrease the idle movement speed (when the Banshee moves forward automatically) just a little bit and make the backflip gain more height.
Also, I think that the more powerful vehicles should start spawning a little earlier. We usually had very little time to make use of the Scorpion tank whenever it spawned.
Other than that, the only complaints I have are technical issues. Such as character textures not always loading after respawn, BXB glitch and a weird sound glitch where a “clicking” sound kept on playing for everyone on our team for a while after the loot cave closed. I also heard from my friends who play on pc that they experienced frame drops in BTB.
EDIT: Vehicles shouldn’t be able to move objective items, such as the flag, because it makes escorting them way too quick.
So I played BTB both days this weekend. I had the chance to play all three gametypes within BTB. all were challenging but very fun. I felt the map was not as symmetrical as it was intended to be. Weapons placements on the map were center near where all of the fighting was happening. There seem to be more shield attachments than grapple attachments. Also in all of the chaos it was very hard to find them on the map. Also I felt with BTB there were going to be more of the vehicles in play. The most I ever saw were the ghosts. There was one game with one minute left that a ship was dropped. I enjoyed the map. Was hoping it would have been a little bigger and more Vehicle fights. Thank you for the Opportunity to play and get a first look. Cannot wait for the full release in December. Awesome Game!
After another day of playing all I can say is I love the gameplay and cant wait for full release. A few minor tweaks here and there could be needed but the moment to moment gameplay itself is great and feels like a modern Halo.
Battlepass/challenge system is bad. After match UI/menus needs some work.
