Infinite Tech Preview – Big Team Battle

So my problems with BTB so far:

  1. Please include BR starts. I dislike spawning with the AR/Pistol when in literally every other Halo game since Halo 2 we’ve had BR starts in BTB. It makes no sense. You shouldn’t have to sprint all the way across the map to help out your teammates. You should be able to help your teammates from longer ranges; that is what the BR is meant to do.

  2. The TTK on all weapons. Excluding the BR, the TTK on a lot of weapons is way too fast. See the Sidekick and AR for reference. You should not be able to spam the Sidekick. The AR is more of a close ranged weapon. Please do not make every weapon in the game super lethal.

  3. The plasma pistol does not EMP vehicles. With the new Shock Rifle being able to EMP vehicles longer along with the shock grenades, the plasma pistol has no usage anymore except for disabling shields of enemy players, which is less significant in BTB because well, vehicles matter. I have no problem with shock grenades existing, but they are just way too strong on vehicles.

  4. The aiming. For controller players, the aiming is awkward and difficult. Controller players need some form of aim assist to be able to aim. Aiming is difficult because you strafe too fast, there is almost no aim assist/reticle magnetism on many weapons, and the bullet magnetism is basically nonexistent. This becomes apparent when using the sniper.

  5. Vehicle health. The Warthog has too little health. It should not turn on fire after taking a couple of plasma hits. The Warthog just needs a bit more vehicle health.

Weapons despawn way too quickly when dropped. Hopefully this is just for the flight and not an issue in the final game.

So is it just me or do people never for OBJ in Total Control?

Just lost a game in about 5 mins because my entire team was never at OBJ.

Correction, 4 minutes and 38 seconds to be exact.

BTB is very fun though, there are quite a few weapons/ grenades that do the plasma pistol’s job but better in many regards while the plasma pistol has seemed to lose it’s place for the most part as something worth picking up. The power vehicle spawns like the scorpion and etc are quite late game I must say, and it is a bit too easy to just take a vehicle via the grapplehook which feels more plentiful with not much in the way of risk like hijacking normally would be on top of everything else added to the sandbox that can be a bad day for the scorpion. It may be a bit too easy for something like the dynamo grenade to stop a vehicle in it’s tracks since it is fairly easy to do it. There may be a bit too much frequency on the Sniper spawns or weapons like the sniper as it causes a fair amount of cases where players are sitting back in various back ends of the map popping one in the heads of Spartans which is not very friendly to new players. On the topic of new players I am not entirely sure if SBMM is going to be in BTB full launch, but (like with other social modes) it may be better to remove it so more social-ish type modes such as BTB do not get too sweaty and end up being a drive away for new players to the Halo experience, SBMM has driven potential new players from games in many cases before, and I would hope for the same case not to happen with Halo Infinite. I love pretty much everything else about BTB, and especially the loot caves even though it is a more basic idea it works out wonderfully. Thank you very much for the opportunity to play!

I played on Xbox One and didn’t get as many chances to play BTB, but I still wanted to record my input:

I found when playing Arena the teams were unbalanced and it was impossible to react when playing on Xbox One. Those issues continued with BTB.

I mentioned this in my post about the Arena, but there are too many voices talking during the matches. I really only want to hear Jeff Steitzer, not the other Spartans yelling and your AI telling you things that don’t need to be said (like “battle rifle acquired,” I know I acquired it you don’t need to tell me). There’s just too many voices going on, and I really just want to hear “double kill,” “killing spree,” etc. The fact that Steitzer isn’t even used in BTB is a joke. I don’t understand why there needs to be all these voices. When I go back to play Halo 3 or Reach in MCC, there’s nothing wrong with the space.

The vehicles are getting there. I only had the chance to try using a Warthog, Ghost, and Mongoose. They all drive pretty good, the one thing that I found kind of annoying was that it took quite a while to kill someone when using a ghost.

The plasma pistol needs to have its emp effect on vehicles as well. I know they want to introduce shock ammo for whatever reason but the plasma pistol needs to disable vehicles temporarily as well

On occasion, I’ve noticed the grenade pickup sound not playing when I pick up the dynamo grenades. It seems to play for every other grenade type, so I’m not entirely sure why it wouldn’t work for that.

First of all im loving the 12v12 it is so much chaos and good times.

The things I would like to see improved

  • Where is my boy, Jeff Steitzer, it feel empty without him announcing my medals. It is a weird choice to not have him in BTB since he is a cornerstone of halo multiplayer
  • Can there be a setting to make my A.I be quiet or talk less frequently and be as rare as the dialouge from the IWHBYD skull? It gets real old hearing the same 10 lines every game.
  • I feel like the addition of blood to dead spartans would make it feel more like halo since every other halo has it. Doesnt have to be over the top just a little bit of blood.
-Inconsistency in some of the weapons. I feel like some weapons such as the AR, BR and Commando are a bit inconsistent. Meaning I can but the same amount of bullets into a Spartan and theyll all be at different health
  • Another issues ive noticed is when getting into meleeing battles it feels super inconsistent like sometimes ill be able to lunch 6 ft away and then other times I cant hit something 2in in front of me. It also gets super confusing too because most times you and the enemy will lose track of each other and youll start meleeing the air because you both seem to just disappear to one another.
  • Fianlly my biggest issue with the game is that the aiming just feel really wonky and inconsistent from the first technical test. Like ill be aiming and the shots should connect but they just seem to disappear. I know im not the only one that has had this issue either. I dont know what would improve it but its just inconsistent and will cost alot of fights that you shouldve won.

Overall though very fun game. I haven’t had this much fun on a halo since halo 3. I am very excited to play the full release in December

Yay, BTB on big maps and you spawn with AR’s and pistols. Knock it off.

My criticism of big team battle over social arena is that player outlines are too noticeable from a distance. from the furthest possible sight lines on the map I can instantly see any red that is within line of sight of me. This makes it far too easy to snipe and be sniped, forcing scoped weapons to have exaggerated performance compared to previous games without the outlines.
This would not be a problem if it weren’t for the fact that it causes time-to-kill to feel rushed during big-team battle. Some players spend more than half the time either running to the fight or waiting for respawn due to how quickly spartans die to direct-fire weapons at long range.
While I personally do not like the idea of player outlines, I do like to show off my armor color scheme, so I don’t suggest removing it entirely.

Suggested action:
1: Reduce distant (50 meters or so) enemy outline opacity significantly. Ideally enemy player outlines would return to full opacity even at distance if you are looking at them.

2: increase spawn cooldown on sniper rifles by one minute, add one additional clip to compensate.

PS: Controller sensitivity is too low, even at the highest setting.

It’s really awesome. But some of the game modes especially the objectives games need a bigger score to win. For example CTF, instead of 3 captures to win, maybe 5.

After playing all weekend - does anyone else feel like the Pelican drops aren’t a good addition to BTB (or at the very least hurts it)

BTB to me should have both teams spawning with power weapons and crazy vehicles on their sides. It’s not meant to be super balanced, it’s chaotic, sandboxy Halo Fun.

Right now it feels completely different. Having to fight over vehicle drops that only come in towards the end of the game isn’t fun and feels a bit ‘too competitive’, if that makes any sense.

It feels like Warzone lite, not BTB - Like a regular large scale game mode instead of the sandbox type of gameplay I loved in Older BTBs.

Maybe it’s just the map - which also felt cramped and less like a BTB map and more like a larger competitive map. Like a bunch of smaller areas lumped together instead of a big open map.

I dunno, something just doesn’t feel right to me.

Love the vault system.
Game modes are awesome and play great.

Vehicles are too weak, handling is terrible.
Time to enter/exit vehicles is way to slow, button has to be held can’t bail from a vehicle.
Grav hammer is OP against vehicles.
Ghost destruction is sad in comparison to previous halos.
Vehicle sounds have changed.
Plasma pistol doesn’t disable vehicles, can’t understand why that’s changed.
Shotguns are useless, pistol is a better close quarters weapon.
No game announcer in BTB bring Jeff Steitzer into it.

Game feels like the current creators haven’t played previous halos. The game is a continuation of a series, it should pay homage to it with consistencys.

between how oppressive grapples and the Skewer is, BTB doesn’t feel like it’s viable to use a vehicle, especially when the skewer can both one or two-shot most vehicles AND flip them over.

There also feels like an over-abundance of power weapons. Don’t get me wrong, they’re fun, but it’s very rare that any fights take place without one or two, which kind of lessens their impact.

Too many power weapons.

I love it, this new 12vs12 is so nostalgic i just wanna play this with my buddies and get mad for all the sweats

A very entertaining game, I love that it will transport me to the past and make me feel that feeling that only Halo can do. I love the sound of the weapons, they are real that blows you away. In the technical aspect it became very fluid, although sometimes I think that it is normal because it is a technical test from there on out everything is perfect. Although I must add that I already want to listen to the narrator and the AI.
Thanks for the invitation and I hope to have it already installed on my console .

I played a couple of BTB matches, and I’m feeling kind of indifferent towards the current map. Vehicles don’t have that much room to move, making them lean towards useless and not as fun to use. In terms of player abilities and Equipment, I wish I could replace Sprint with another equipment so that I could do a Repulsor + Grapple combo for more mobility options.
