Infinite Tech Preview – Big Team Battle

I really enjoyed big team battle, but there are a couple changes I would make:

  1. Big team battle slayer should be 125-150 kills to win. With 12 players on each team 100 kills feels to short.
  2. Flag (and other objective) melees should be one hit kills. Since we can’t shoot while carrying the flag, the flag should do more melee damage.

Vehicle handling is very well done

Closest to H1 of all the Halos

Speed is unbelievable
Nice and fast

The “floatiness” slows down the warthog just enough to increase player control to the highest levels since H1

The centre of mass of the vehicles can be re-aligned to closely match H1
This would help mitigate the “flipping” some have complained about

Centre of mass control awareness was the key in H1 to controlling the warthog as it hit banks and hills so that it would never flip over

The angle you took along with speed determined if you would flip

Mixed about the auto recentering
It is friendly to new players and also takes away a feeling of pulling off a great maneuver because the warthog lands for you

Doing a “360” spin off the centre of mass in H1 as you jumped off a high ledge assured the warthog would land flat as it gave even momentum to the front and back of the warthog so neither side would dip under the force of gravity and it looked cool

You can plasma hammer launch a warthog and grapple it mid air because of the “floatiness” which is cool

If there ends up being a change to the “flipping” please change it without touching the “floatiness” and adjust the centre of mass instead or add more shock absorption to the tires

Floatiness is a huge fun factor and allows you to make massive jumps
Changing the force of gravity and making the warthog feel like a rock sinking in water as you make an epic jump could reduce the fun factor of being in the air for longer

For all the awesomeness this game brings, the controller aiming issues that have already been reported and acknowledged are really hampering ability to just enjoy the game. When something as fundamental as being able to put the crosshairs where you want them doesn’t work properly, it heads to very rage inducing moments.

I really hope they get this fixed for launch. I sold my copy of Halo 5 and walked away from the game for years because of issues that just got too riled up. After some extensive playtime now, starting to feel that way again due to the controller aiming issues and the radar having too short of range to be of any use.

Come to think of it The Ghost does NOT need a nerf. Rather than nerfing, why not bump up the durability on f. Ex the warthog? That or give the turret a bith more dmg. This goes for any equipment, vehicle, weapon etc. Adding alternate functions and buffs shouldnt be neglected compared to using nerf as balancing tool.

The Banished added plating on their ghosts to exactly make them more durable. It would be mindbaffling to make it paperthin against a percieved cardboardthin warthog. Crushes lore, canon.
Also the Razorback while not in the preview should obviously be more durable than the warthog variants and ghost. Stick to that. Maybe thats why you made the warthog seemingly frailer in the eyes of some players? Hmm. If we had the Razorback for testing, comparing the vehicles durability would be easier…
I say it again give the plasma pistol back its one shot emp vs vehicles. The shock rifle and dynamo grenades should be able to disable vehicles aswell. So test out comparisond by just adding the PP one shot stun back to begin with

really enjoying the map layout and very smooth gameplay on the Series X

Just finished a game where halfway through all my sounds went away except frag grenade bounces, mongoose, and voice chat.

The warthog’s windshield has no glass breaking sound when it breaks. There are also no glass shard scatter effects or glass shards on the windshield frame. The windshield just disappears. It feels unfinished.

Loving the flight so far!

The only issues I have had are I have been getting bad frames the last few games on my Xbox one X for big team, and the ghost doesn’t quite turn well or really do much when I get a good ram on players. Hope to see a fix, thanks guys!

-2 hard crashes to the dashboard where I had to reboot the game

-Assists were not counting towards daily challenge

-Spawn glitches with the corpse of a vehicle

So I have a few things I wanna give feedback on.

First off, the flag resets way too quick in CTF. It’s practically impossible to win a game in it because of getting 3 caps and not because the time ran out. I’ve played 15 games of CTF and had zero games end because one team got all 3 captures. One reason for this is because the flag resets so quickly in it, if you just manage to kill the flag carrier, that’s almost a guaranteed flag reset. Please fix this.

Secondly, The radar is also next to useless, especially in BTB. 18m is practically nothing, and even worse in a game that’s fast paced. Make it at least 25m, maybe even 30m.

And lastly, Jeff Steitzer needs to be the announcer in BTB. Getting medals like “Double Kill”, “Killing Spree”, etc. just feels so empty without him announcing them. It’s already in the game, implement in BTB as well.

Love the game only it crashes a lot. I’m on a 9700 and a 2070 super. Is there a driver version causing this? Also I have problems that my performance decreases as I play more matches (known issue).

But main problem: a lot of crashes to dashboard without even giving a crash indicator. It is also random.

edit: I think the range on radar is good. But than again I hope it gets removed because I hate radar in mp games. I use a controller and there needs to be more auto aim. Halo 1 had this perfected.

On big team battle, Im using the newest microsoft wireless headset and at some point during the game, the sounds from shooting my gun and getting shot at were no longer coming through eh headset, but the sounds for a warthog driving by and some grenade bouncing type sounds still came through. I turned off the headset and turned it back on and had the same problem. Also there was some glitching . After the match finished I restarted the game and the sounds came back.

Notable bugs I’ve been having (I’m on PC so I don’t know if those on Xbox have the same issue):

Sidekick doesn’t make noise when I hit shots on enemies, as in: 0 bullet sounds or hit sounds.
Enemy shots that hit me don’t make noise.
Rubber-banding when hit by friendly vehicles.
Hit reg is abysmal, I would die 0.5-1 second after getting behind cover.
Banshee had no texture, it was just black.
Pretty frequent crashes, particularly after CTF games.

Things I didn’t like:
MInimap is useless, 99% of the time I can see them before they appear on the map.
Sniper not having first shot accuracy when no-scoping.
CTF on BTB always ended 0-0 or 1-0. They were way too short and for most of the game both teams just camped flag.

Other than these issue this flight was a blast.

so big team battle was pretty fun but to me it exposed some big issues with general gameplay i feel will become problematic

-the 4 forced fire team and intros for it feel obnoxious either show the entire team line up everyone doing their intro poses instead of everyone one by one or it just feels even more pointless and forced in big team battle

-the map felt a bit to big with a lot of corners that just dont get used much

-bring back an end of match UI that is closer to the older halo games this new one and having to scroll to see team mates is horrible and feels slow and boring to use

-vehicles were way to over powered 4 members of a team shooting at a warthog tossing frags and more and the warthog killed all 4 of use just loosing the side gunner looked like barely a scratch on it

-vehicles are to over powered in modes like capture the flag to where it just becomes a camp vehicles spawns to make sure you win

  • the fact vehicles can push flags around means stuff like a ghost can BOOST the flag far enough away there is no contest to get it back

  • this mode brought to more attention of how badly the old halo 3 style of game play is without bringing something modern to it besides a new engine. It just brings back people running to predictable spawns and getting camped, or even people ignoring objectives to get their “FAVORITE GUN!” this could be fixed by making half the weapon spawners for the more basic guns along the most commonly traveled paths are randomized or do load outs and weapon spawn types. Like having a Fully auto gun spawner where its commando or SMG or storm rifle and surpressor where they can either do things if its a complete random system or just be reskins if thats show player load outs can be handled so people can at least visually play how they want, and that would introduce some player variety at stop the weapon camping by giving them more options to go to get that gun they like since spawners can be more generalized

-jump height because clamber is a dumb thing still, makes jumping over ghosts trying to ram you annoying and to time intensive, it should be easy to jump a ghost like every other halo game. gotta love being a human with metal in their bones and a hydraulics system suit but still cant jump more than a normal guy :confused:

-the new shotgun is still awful

-and the Assault rifle recoil needs to be more in-tune with the AR we know and love or make it the SMG like it feels like… or give us the option of skin for starting weapon at least even if damage stays the same just appearance changes.

-active camo also needs nerfing side note, way to blend in and needs that shimmer of people can see when theyre moving. like solid 10-20% visibility increase

i like everything so far but the game does tend to freeze up a lot

  • The ghost being able to move the flag isn’t great.
  • Total control is the best version of that game type I have played. The zone placement could be tweaked
  • plasma pistol should EMP vehicles.
  • BTB slayer could be 120+ to win (as games feel short?)
  • flag carrier needs to be 1 hit kill, and possible speed increase. As the TTK is now faster, running the flag seems impossible.
  • radar range increase would be great
  • I stuck a flag carrier with a spike grenade and it didn’t kill him. Not sure if that’s by design?

aside from that - really great fun!

Vehicles are too weak

  • warthogs die super quickly
  • tank dies super quickly
  • ghost is good - maybe less damage?
  • a vehicle should outlive players such that someone else can use the vehicle after a player has been shot out of it.
  • the point at which the vehicle enters doomed state is really vague. sometimes the warthog will be totally on fire but still drivable, sometimes it will die before a tire has popped off
  • skewer should not immediately put the vehicle into doomed state as there is no warning - e.g spartan laser charge up laser.

Vehicles need to be heavier. They spin out and flip over incredibly easily. Being a good driver helps, but a bump on the road can really screw you over

when plasma pistols work there is way to much EMP. shock rifle and dynamo grenades, and plasma pistol, all EMP vehicles. and this really makes it unappealing to use a vehicle. I would suggest maybe 2 or 3 hits with the shock rifle (which may be the case?) and dynamo grenades only EMP vehicle if it is stuck.

Vehicular combat is extremely minimal which is a big shame

Vehicle ordinance feels really useless

  • ghosts for the first 3 drops
  • maybe some warthogs
  • not a tank or banshee or wasp until right at the end where it does not get much use
  • Having a constant respawning warthog and mongoose is great! do the same with the ghost and have tanks and banshees dropped throughout the game. currently the really powerful vehicles see absolutely no use.
  • more vehicles should be at each teams base as well as the ordinance

Slayer kill count should be increased to 150 or something. the games are very brief and there isn’t enough opportunity imo to use power weapons.

I think heatwave needs a buff, I havn’t died to or killed anyone with a heatwave unless they targets shields were destroyed first

Jeff should be the voice in BTB. I think laurette is better suited to training and arenas. You wanted BTB to feel like all out warefare, but having the training commander really takes you out of that

The spawns on BTB Slayer seem wacky to me. I’ve spawned and been run over by half the opposing team on numerous occasions.

Additionally, adding some footstep sounds would be really helpful. I know there’s a motion sensor, but 1) it’s position makes it harder to check, and 2) every other game has some useful footstep audio, so it’s weird that there’s almost none in this game. Combined with the many different paths players can take, I find myself on top of enemy players immediately. Alternatively, let us move the motion sensor to a top corner, which are completely free of any UI elements.

My Feedback for BTB:
-The vehicle spawning in Big Team Battle sucks, having the Banshee & Scorpion etc being a random drop ain’t it.
-The Outlines make it a bit to easy to see enemies, especially in BTB, kills any stealth approach.
-Reduce the respawn from 10 seconds to 5 in BTB.
Not that anyone will read this but these are my thoughts.

General:
-A traditional level system, challenges to level up your Battle Pass is poor.
-No play collision, walking through your team, sucks.
-Add a kill cam.
-Add a final kill of the game cam.
-A Clan system like Halo 2, Name, Logo and Clan vs Clan ranked mode.
