Infinite Tech Preview – Big Team Battle

BTB has been wonderful and fun for me, I love playing some arena games and moving to a BTB later, hopefully a big variety like that will be available at launch.
Some points

  • 18m radar doesn’t bother me as much as they say, but it could actually be 25m in this mode.
  • Banshee is weak.
  • Textures take a little time to load on Xbox One, I’m not bothered by the graphics of the original Xbox One version, I was satisfied, but I really wanted to run at 60fps.
  • I think Skewer shouldn’t blow up the Warthog with a single shot, I think disabling it and making players have to leave might be an idea, I say that because I’ve even done a triple kill like that, but I don’t know what they think about.
  • It would be cool if they showed all spartans at the beginning, not just 4, my idea was an open camera with all players next to each other, it would be cool haha.
  • Now for Arena in general, I hope there are a variety of gestures for Spartans when they are introduced and at the end of matches.

Also, other people have mentioned this, but it would be nice to have the BTB maps available in Training mode at launch, or to have a Big Team Bots matchmaking playlist. I feel like this could help with the accessibility of the mode, plus it would be neat to explore the map, or to get the casual experience of Bot Arena with these bigger battlefields. This would also be a great chance to improve the variety of difficulties mixed into the Bot team, since in Bot Arena the games are over incredibly fast.

Really disappointing to not hear Jeff Steitzer announce for Big Team Battle. Would make sense to hear him announce large sprees and whatnot. Would love to hear him return in the full game for BTB or an option to turn him on for such. Plenty others would agree, he’s just fun to listen to.

Loving the game play it really feels how halo should . A few things though I would like to see implemented. BTB needs MORE VEHICLES without a doubt. Iv played around 20 games of btb and seen a scorpion tank once which lasted about 20 seconds as the game ended . Also would like the chance to chose your own gun on spawning . Not saying we need a full loadout system just be nice to pick a battle rifle or assault riffle on start . Also aiming on controller just doesn’t feel right iv played with the settings and got it sort of ok . But it still doesn’t feel right . Other than that the game is shaping up amazing .

BTB is so damn fun! Loot caves are such a cool addition! All the game modes feel really solid!

However, one thing I would improve is to change the score to win for Total Control from 3 to 5 points. Those matches can feel really short at times if you have a bad team, so I feel like this change would give both teams more of an opportunity to make a comeback.

You could also do the same for BTB Capture the flag to make the match go on a little longer, but this is more of an issue for Total Control in my opinion.

BTB has been a fantastic experience so far and I AM SO EXCITED for the full game!!

What I’m enjoying:

  • This flight compared to the previous ones has considerably faster loading times and more FPS. - The AR is PERFECT and I’m a huge fan of how it finally feels powerful and can compete with the pistol. That said I think the pistol and AR don’t need any changes. - AR starts are PERFECT for BTB (and arena game modes as well for that matter). - CTF IS SO FUN! Adding moving flag spawns after each subsequent score is a great touch! - Vehicles feel amazing to drive and control, seat switching is great, and the 3rd person view is really neat when you’re spectating and will make for some fantastic montages in the future. - Total Control is chaotic and is such a fun mode, and I can’t wait to see what the community does with it come release. - I love the vehicle, equipment, and objective interaction on Fragmentation and it adds a completely new way of playing. - I enjoy that when you enter a vehicle it notifies your teammates that there’s a warthog with two seats at XX. - The animals and ambient noises on Fragmentation are incredible and add such a fantastic touch.
What I think can be improved on:

  • BTB without Jeff Steitzer doesn’t feel the same for game-type announcements and killing sprees/medals. - Flag trails can be incredibly jerky when in a warthog or mongoose. - Starting sensitivities on the controller are usually too high (all flights so far). - The radar radius doesn’t seem to be at the proper distance. I.e., I’ll have the flag, hide briefly while watching an enemy at the end of the radar, and immediately they’re right on top of me. - Warthog horn is a bit weak and I wouldn’t mind it closer to prior Halo games. - Spawns in Total Control: it’s a bit discouraging constantly spawning at the back of your base, having to walk to the middle/far side of the map, and by the time you get there, the enemy has captured all three zones. - Territories in Total Control felt like they were slightly closer to one of the bases than the other one (I could be completely wrong about this though). - Hacking the loot cave doesn’t always work and you have to do this several times.
    Suggestions:

  • I’d like to see a bit more blood on the death of a spartan even for a T rating. - It would be neat to see Covenant/Banished Phantoms/Spirits drop off the Covenant/Banished vehicles and likewise for the Covenant/Banished weapons and use their respective weapon pods. - Add in when players have been killed by the Guardians l (I.e., I was splattered 2x in a row by the pelican drops lol). - Randomized power weapons spawning in the loot caves (I.e., not always a Gravity Hammer). - The Forerunner tower doesn’t do any damage to players when it fires after a flag is scored if they’re standing there. I think it would be interesting for it to vaporize a spartan if they’re hanging out there. - I have yet to see a Banshee, Scorpion, Wraith, or Chopper and most games might be ended before they have time to come into the battlefield. - I tried standing in the loot cave door and I wasn’t killed by the Guardians but was simply pushed out, and it would be neat to have the doors kill a spartan if they didn’t make it in time. - Make vehicle audible warning sound just a tad louder before wildcat destabilization. - I know Halo Infinite is focusing on a squad mechanic with 4 people per squad that randomly spawn together at the start of a match, but I enjoyed how Warzone would start in H5 with the teams being dropped off together and this could be a nice touch to start the match.
Fantastic job all around to the entire team! Thanks for all the hard work that’s gone into Infinite so far!

> First off, btb is super fun! I’ve had a great time. These are a few of my critiques:
>
> Heavy vehicles feel like they come a little too late in the match. It feels as though you have maybe a minute or two to possibly get the scorpion before the match is over. Same with the banshee. My honest preference would be for them to be available closer to the start of the match. This would allow more opportunities to use them.
>
> The Pelican looks like it may have a frame rate issue when it comes in. It appears jittery.
>
> This is to be expected, but I’ve experienced a little bit of lag in btb that I didn’t have in regular arena.

I would honestly like it if there were regular Scorpion, Banshee, and Wasp spawns in both bases and that the Pelicans dropped some of the more chaotic vehicles like the Wraith, Chopper, Gungoose, Rocket Hog.

Like many have mentioned, as it stands it really feels very bland on the vehicle side of things despite that being the main appeal of BTB for many.

Also, maybe if the Plasma Pistol no longer EMPs vehicles, maybe make it so one full burst of the Shock Rifle does, similarly to how one full burst can eliminate an enemy in one pull of the trigger, earning a Perfect medal.

commando needs a buff!!

Day 2 of BTB feedback:

I’d love to see collateral damage for the skewer and other precision power weapons. The Skewer feels like it should be taking one player and skewering maybe someone behind them but it doesn’t and that would be cool to get something like that.

Also there is a big damage imbalance within the vehicles damage. I feel like with normal weapons they are almost impossible to take out a vehicle with wereas with power weapons vehicles get too much damage and wipe vehicles too quickly making u feel very vulnerable in a vehicle instead of powerful.

I’d also love to see plasma EMP to return on vehicles it feels right and is obviously a legacy feature of the gun usually. Plus the plasma weapons need to have a clearer stronger affect on shields and a worse affect on health.

With vehicles also I’d like for the vehicles to not handbrake when u swap seats or when u jump out since it doesn’t feel as fluid and stops u from yeeting people off the map which is a must have.

FINALLY, with vehicles I’d like for the power vehicles to be more common in spawning. Maybe have the power ones spawn in every pelican drop and have the warthogs and ghosts spawn on the map like the mongooses do. It makes the power vehicles feel like too rare and too concerning when you’re driving one in case u lose it.

I’d like more of a halo 3 style grav hammer physics where the player moves and also so does most of the environment since the grav hammer doesn’t effect the area around u or u at all which I don’t like since it doesn’t rlly match how the grav hammer feels.

The needled supercombine sound is basically none existent as well end id like to be able to hear it since it’s an explosion after all.

On the sniper as well I don’t like the inaccuracy within the reticle and if makes it far to hard to aim when using the sniper.

Player collisions should 100% be a thing as well like it feels very weird that there isn’t.

One of the MOST IMPORTANT things to add is a height indicator on the minimap I’ll be on top of one of the beam tower with motion marks it looks like ik surrounded by enemies when in reality they are no where near killing me. Another minimap feature I’d like to add is just larger range since people very quickly sneak up on you and they’re so close by the time u can tell.

In terms of the sneaking up on player footsteps are VERY QUIET and u rlly can’t tell where people are at.

The loot caves on btb maps also are problematic. They’re a great idea but with ordinance drops the loot the caves give really aren’t worth waiting their for ages and you can get better stuff without being out of the fight for a minute. So I’d love to see more and better loot with maybe two power weapons, two options of equipment or just any other improvements.

Finally just I think minimum ammo on the held MG turret should be a number not a percentage since I think that’s weird.

anyway loving it so fair hope u take my feedback

100% agree with this. Put Steitzer back into BTB.

Really loving big team battle, although has anyone had the same experience as me; I’m finding that every game is either 3-0 or 3-1 to either enemy team or my team. I’ve played loads of matches and on the objective style modes I’ve never had what I’d consider a close game. Never had it ended 2-3 score.

I know I’ve certainly found it difficult to capture objectives because there’s so many players. I didn’t think an extra 4 aside would make a difference, but I think it has.

either way, even if my team is being destroyed 0-3, I’m still having fun playing it!!

Anyone else got the bug where the grav lifts don’t have the blue hue and wisps? It happens quite often I find.

That’s a known issue.

Makes sense, couldn’t find it on the list. Cheers

Very exciting and addicting to play Big Team Battle, I have had some amazingly fun moments from splattering multiple enemies on a ghost to sniping banshees out of the sky - this game is genuinely fun to play for the sake of playing it which is so refreshing when considering the state of gaming recently. Trying to zoom across the map on a mongoose with an ally on the back to grab the flag without getting obliterated is so tense and so rewarding when you manage to pull it off, there are just so many moments like this in every single match, it makes it hard to put the controller down

Positives

  • Amount of players feels amazing - 12v12 feels so much more wild and eventful than 8v8, the map feels so alive! If you told me it was 30 vs 30 I would believe you because so much is going on - The map is perfect - I can tell how well designed it is by the fact that there can be an exciting battle anywhere on the map. The centre of the map has that room with two entrances where I have either been trying to kill those inside it or using it to take cover and fend off aggressors, the sides of the map tend to cause the teams to pile against each other in crazy battles, and then each end where the bases are have sniper bullets flying everywhere, I love it - Hacking into weapon rooms is a great touch - Trying to hack into a weapon room to grab a sniper rifle is very tense and rewarding, I hope there are more “bonus objective” additions to other big team battle maps - Made some weapons feel better - the sniper rifles, shock rifle, and ravager feel much better suited to these big eventful maps than they do in arena slayer
    Negatives

  • THE SERVERS SUCK - This is the biggest complaint I have of the multiplayer aspects of the flights - the servers are terrible. I have a constant 40-50mbps connection yet it feels like I am playing on 750kbps speed at times. Being shot around corners, hits not registering, rubber banding, being unable to jump on a vehicle - it really sucks and when it happens it kills all the enjoyment. I know this flight was intended to stress the servers, but if this is what happens when a limited number of halo insiders plays at once I hate to imagine what will happen when the game finally drops for everyone to play, hopefully the servers are much more capable when that time comes. - Mouse & Keyboard advantage is bigger thanks to the range - while it was already a noticeable difference in arena slayer, in BTB it is even harder to aim at distance with weapons like the commando when using a controller, the shock rifle is another example as it has zero aim assist which puts controllers at a massive disadvantage. Someone on my team had his mic on and I could hear him clacking away on his $399.99 rgb elite mechanical keyboard and saw him popping enemies one after another flying through the air from their base like he was playing duck hunt. I think there either needs to be a marginal increase in controller aim assist or include an option to avoid mouse and keyboard players, it feels lame to get lasered across the map by a mouse. - We need more scorpions and flying vehicles - I have played quite a few matches and I have only seen the scorpion twice and it is only around for the last 40 seconds of the match where it can’t make a difference, the banshee and the wasp are up more but only having one per team means 22 players in the match most likely won’t have a chance at using them. maybe drop a banshee and a scorpion early on and then again towards the end similar to how halo 5 had a mantis and a wrath at the start - I think there are too many ravagers - the ravager feels really strong in big team battle, its almost like a noob tube because of its spammable splash damage that doesn’t need precise aim. every other person who dies drops one and there is always one or two ready to pick upThis flight has made me even hungrier for Infinite, please don’t delay it again I don’t think my heart could take it…

7minutes in on xbox the man canon beam disappears

Halo Infinite has felt fantastic, and BTB matches live up to the hype 343 has been setting! It feels bigger and better than ever, but it still has some rough edges that could use some work.

Things I really enjoy:

  • The map design for Fragmentation feels excellent (especially Forerunner structures and interiors) and is very fun to play in - Movement such as sliding and clamber is good for moving around quickly and efficiently - Vehicles feel powerful and fun to use - The ordinance drops are a cool inclusion, especially the vehicle drop-offs which create a race to reach them before the enemy team can - The loot vaults are a great addition that allows players to go for power weapons and equipment in an interesting way - The vehicle doomsday mechanic creates tense and great situations - Gameplay is chaotic but not too overwhelming. It’s very easy to get into the action - Being able to pick up and throw fusion coils just feels amazing - The subtle detail of the surface of vehicles peeling away when taking damage is really coolThings I don’t like as much:

  • Vehicle explosions feel really lackluster, especially given the awesome buildup the doomsday state creates - Explosions in general felt too cartoony and weak. Explosions should have a bigger presence by kicking up dust and lingering for a small while. - Fire effects from the ravager also felt weak and lackluster, especially when compared to the incendiary grenade effects from Halo 3 - Vehicles like the warthog feel weak and easy to destroy - Throughout the matches I played, I only saw the scorpion and wasp a few times, and I only encountered the banshee once. Seeing those more often would be great for allowing players to hop in and try them out - Pelican drops always occurred in the same few spots, more variety would be awesome - Others have said it, but the lack of Jeff Steitzer is really felt - The apparent lack of aim assist. I play on controller and can definitely feel that aiming precision weapons such as the sniper rifle and skewer is far more challenging in Halo Infinite when compared to other games in the series - I wish player outlines were only displayed on teammates, and that the shield colors for players were returned to their iconic yellow - The AR feels like it has a bit too much range. I don’t think it needs to be nerfed into the ground, and I love how often it can be useful, but decreasing the effective range by a small bit would make it feel a bit less like an all-purpose weapon - Blood decals on the ground when players die would look great - I really hope match-to-match xp makes it in at some point. Progression felt slow and unrewarding at times.Despite the cons I’ve listed, I really enjoyed what the team has put together! I have great hopes that Halo Infinite will live up and surpass its older siblings, and release as an excellent addition to the series!

> > The wasp and banshee both feel very weak and don’t do enough damage, the banshees especially. The map I feel is also to enclose for them and power vehicle spawn way to late into the game, usually only once
>
> Definitely need to bring up the armor on the vehicles!!!

Yea, I’ve noticed. Small arms fire is very effective, even against the Scorpion.

Playing on Xbox One.

The BTB experience was fun at first but grew frustrating after a few matches, unfortunately.

Pros - - -

  • The atmosphere and scale of the map is great.
  • 12v12 makes it feel like a much larger conflict.
  • Things like loot caves and pelican drops are welcome additions. The pelicans dropping vehicles felt quite immersive.

Negatives - - -

  • Vehicles feel fragile. The Banshee especially suffers from this; I was shot down in one from basic AR gunfire coming from below me. Perhaps give vehicles a bit more resistance to small arms fire?
  • While the scale of the map feels great, running across half of the map to the objective and dying soon after does not. With vehicles often being taken by teammates and man cannons only getting you part of the way, it can definitely feel like a chore and take away the fun feeling of BTB to repeatedly simply run for so long to the objective only to die and have to do it all over again. This was especially prevalent in the Strongholds gamemode. Adding more man cannons or other traversal methods that allow easier access to at least the midpoint of the map would help this immensely.
  • Tying in to the previous point, TTK feels like it’s too fast. I also had this experience in Bot Arena, of all things. A friend I was playing with shared this frustration, as it only compounds upon the issue of long respawn times and having to run all the way back to the objective. It takes away the fun factor of the game by putting you in what feels like an endless cycle of near-instant-death to reaching the objective to near-instant-death again. While it may partially be tied to a player’s skill level, it is a draining feeling and reduces interest in BTB and other modes.

> Power weapons don’t feel powerful. Hackers? Hit detection is off. Radar is in a terrible spot on the HUD and doesn’t pick up enemies. I like the movement speed and more fast pace of the game. But definitely still need tweaking.

Radar has been in the same spot in every single halo game since the first one…
