I know some would disagree, but Reach kind of fumbled the MP and was too big of a step from the classic feel of H3. That’s when I stopped playing and haven’t really got into another halo MP. I hope infinite gets it’s issues addressed because there’s a decent game somewhere in there.
Which seems to be 343i’s goal here. At least they were trying to fix Anthem. If it’s a terrible example, that’s only because 343i seems to be refusing to make the same effort.
Which will kill the game just as well as Anthem was killed. If not even more
I don’t know much about Anthem, they may be doing what Anthem devs did, but it is much easier to abandon a new IP.
I agree.
When I played Halo 3, I sort of wanted it to be faster (a sprint option), but when I played Reach, it just felt like it lost a lot of the charm that the first three games had.
Now it’s too busy, the art style is different (I guess I don’t mind it now though), and there really doesn’t seem to be as much friendliness and wackiness.
It wasn’t all the time, but I used to be able to mess around with the enemy teams during games.
I would do the -Yoink!- gesture (not for taunting but as a friendly sign) while looking at enemies through shields and get similar responses from them, or I would drive or ride with enemies in vehicles.
Now there are never any awkward moments to do that with, and enemies quickly leave the vehicles to pummel whoever got in it.
Also, I actually liked arguing with people on my team and the enemy team before, during and after matches, but that’s mostly gone, and you can’t even receive messages on the PC version, so I can’t even get messages from people that were in matches I played in telling me I’m bad at the game.
I haven’t enjoyed the Halo campaigns since 3 either.
I didn’t care about the characters or story in ODST or Reach, and when Halo 4 released, it just wasn’t what I expected from the ending of 3.
I guess I thought the setting would be something more like the one in the few levels I played of Marathon, and also that there wouldn’t really be much help for Master Chief.
Not only that, but the enemies weren’t very interesting to me.
Based thread OP. Took the thoughts right out of my mind.
I’m just gonna say that at any workplace, floor level employee’s have absolutely no control over the way the product is sold or marketed. They may be the ones specifically building the product yes… but they also have a set of rules, guidelines, specifications and criteria the product must meet and they cannot work outside of those lines. Plain and simple, they have stated that “some” of the 343 team were actually very vocal about not selling the battle pass and product in such a way that they have because that it would negatively impact fans and the product. But just like any job it is above their heads & just like any job your position could be on the line or possibly terminated if you reflect the business in a negative light and impact the business name and product in a negative way. So that would be why they aren’t been 100% direct with their answers and saying “these things take time” They also have family and lives they need to provide for and it would be unwise for any human being to jeopardise that for themselves by talking ill about their workplaces practices.
I would add it would also be unwise to, as the Community Manager, make a post with little bits of passive aggressiveness throughout.
Talking down to us as if we don’t know that free to play doesn’t mean free to make and support. Taking until 3rd from the last paragraph to even attempt an apology which only comes off as an “I’m sorry you feel this way.”
It doesn’t read like a Community Manager that has been working at a place since 2003. It reads like a Community Intern that is overwhelmed and lashing out.
It’s sort of like that saying, “don’t shoot the messenger”.
Yeah, they might’ve written it and delivered it, but someone told them to.
Well, unfortunately, a lot of people don’t understand that, and they usually complain to the wrong people, acting as if they were the ones who caused whatever the problem is.
It happens a lot, basically everywhere.
It’s too bad that people can’t directly complain to whoever actually made the decisions.
Maybe they’d stop doing those things if they were inundated for a while by messages from the people they’re trying to gouge.
You may read it as passive aggressiveness but my post did in no way insinuate that. It is hard to interpret tone through text. To put my post simply, I am extremely grateful for what 343 have delivered over the past 6 years at least for both MCC and now Halo infinite. I just don’t personally believe that all employees were onboard to sell the product in such a way that it has… That’s all I’m saying.
Sorry, I’m talking about ske7ch’s post, not yours.
oh, my apologies.
Yeah that is true, but even if “someone told them to” almost anyone that want’s to keep their job and continue to get paid will do what their manager or boss tells them to. If they refuse they can quit… but the company is going to stick to the same game plan wether that employee stays or not
I was agreeing.
The developers are the messenger that people shouldn’t be complaining to.
Oh man, my bad dude I am doing an absolute terrible job of reading the direction of these comments today, i’m all over the place. I’m sorry mate. :
No problem.
I’ve done the same thing before.
Nothing about it is a cash ccow they have to make money somehow to do the servers etc
one of the greatest debates of all time. tough to determine. i enjoyed Halo 4. LOVED reach though. but 3/2 could easily have been some of my best experiences as well (except H2 cheating plague). 5 was overall pretty good too. but meh, who knows? can’t please everyone at once. ill tell you what though, I believe if bungie (old & new crews) and 343i teamed up… THAT would be the best halo of all time.
Why don’t you put it on a t-shirt while you’re at it?
Can 343 sell these in the store?
I mostly love halo infinite’s gameplay, the problem I have with the game is the way how 343 modeled the cosmetics, the multiplayer matchmaking selection and custom games.
Cosmetics are a welcome addition, but I felt disappointed that they literally took all of the older armor pieces in previous halo games and sell it to you for an extra fee even though you technically unlocked it through progression without paying dime beforehand assuming if you’ve played the game for a moderate amount of time. Some of these armor pieces and generalized color customization should’ve been free. That to me is absolutely ridiculous, if it were new/unique different twists of modern armor I totally would understand and agree to it if they charge for a small reasonable fee. And not to mention, they could’ve also made a challenge system for specific armor pieces. Your fans are investing time into the game, why not award something small where it can motivate them to buy some cosmetics for the future.
343 is really missing out on these money making strategies, why not take it that route? This is halo, halo isn’t meant to be cosmetic driven game like fornite. This franchise is a recognized figure of xbox for it’s impact on paving way for the modern FPS genre since it’s debut. More people are inclined to buy the campaign which is pretty much is going to be the meat for your sales. Why not focus on that, than just cosmetics? It makes somewhat no sense.
They could release Forge, Co-op, make the whole game free in its entirety, release the source code, give everyone $50 dollars and a back rub, all tomorrow, and you people would still react with righteous indignation. I just can’t take these criticisms seriously at this point. The free multiplayer launched early less than a month ago. Just say that out loud real quick and touch grass.
