Infinite’s Wildlife and the Flood

Toss on those tin foil hats because, just like youtubers for any nerd franchise, I’m about to make wild speculation based off of virtually no actual evidence.

We all know there’s no shortage of theories out there on whether or not the Flood are going to return in Infinite, but I think the inclusion of wildlife on Zeta is hinting towards it.

Let me explain. So far between the announcement trailer, gameplay demo, and dev updates, we’ve gotten confirmation of a few different types species of inhabiting the ring. There are the deer type creatures, the rhino type ones, and the ‘space gophers’. Possibly others I’m forgetting but these will do for my point.

Now, I know 343 has said wildlife will be non-threatening to the players, but what happens when that wildlife is infected by the flood? Are they still even considered wildlife once they’ve been turned?

Just imagine the flood forms we’d have a chance to battle if the flood started turning everything on the ring, not just humans and banished. A flood infected Rhino that charges you down with its horn. The deer like creatures that attempt to gut you with their antlers. Or, my personal hypothetical favorite, an entire colony of infected space gophers that can tunnel up from below you like some kind of space zombie version of whack a mole.

I’m not arguing the point that wildlife could just be included to breathe some life into the ring, but the more I think about it the more I think they might have a bigger purpose down the line. I think the inclusion of both wildlife and the flood could be the perfect opportunity to introduce us to some new and challenging enemies to fight without having to bring in a whole new faction.

What do you think? Am I on to something here or, more likely, am I just theorizing wildly to kill time until the game releases?

This is a neat idea and it would add variety to fighting the Flood. I hope this is in the game in any post-launch DLC they add.

sadly they said there is no space rhinos ;-;
it would be cool to combat flood-animals, since that is what halo 3 devs tried to do but couldnt because of the engine limitations

They never said that. Unless i missed something.

They did? That’s a bummer. Where did they say that?

I think they said it in the ask 343

That could bring very cool enemies, but for that they should add cool big animals on the ring, so maybe on a DLC.
Would be awesome to see giant flood as well, being big mammoth type infected animals or amalgamation of infected creatures put together.

Sounds like a fun mini boss fight to me

The wild life could get infected never thought of that possibility. Also maybe we get to ride on a real warthog! Pun intended… maybe the wild life are your friends and you can utilize? I kinda doubt that since they don’t make the hostile. Maybe they are for looks and you can shoot them down. Maybe they will have a creative purpose to the player.

Maybe wild life isn’t hostile to you but what about the enemies? They don’t interact with them either? Maybe grunts riding Moa?

Flood-infected wildlife would be a good idea and I’ve seen that in Halo CE’s mod, Halo SPV3 in which I’ve seen infected blind wolf forms. Now regarding a Flood-infected Rhino, I wouldn’t go that far in seeing it gameplay-wise in seeing the Flood return because we would already most certainly already be seeing forms from the Flood like the Juggernaut and Tank Forms.

I think they should add the flood for sure. Imagine horrible flood abominations stalking you at night… shooting them in their ugly misshapen face… Screaming like a two-year old girl when one pops out of a bush (Just me?)… I have visions guys… visions of the flood

It would be epic, but it would take A LOT of coding… like A LOT. Cuz u need a “flood variant” of almost every NPC and each variant needs to have its own unique model, moveset, abilities, balancing…

What would be interesting is if the Flood were confined to the forerunner architecture, or if 343i simply skipped on floodified wildlife, which would be understandable.

Now perhaps the Flood Abomination can be a boss fight in Halo Infinite.

Sadly I don’t think you can consider the first trailer to be canon, and I don’t expect that most of the environments and creatures that we saw in E3 2018 are making it into the game. Seems like that was during their “lets make a cool game and include all these wonderful environments” phase, now were on to the “lets monetize armor colors” phase, where it seems not much work is getting done on the actual game.

Halo Infinite is supposed to be this spiritual reboot of the franchise, drawing heavily from Combat Evolved. Well, there’s no way to homage CE without a big surprise reveal of the Flood in the middle of the campaign. And I’ve been speculating about the Flood being able to infect the wildlife for a while as well, that would be very fun.
