Now that the Preview is over I figured I would give some of my feedback on some of the new design choices in Halo Infinite, this thread will mostly focus on the Multiplayer Design choices rather than actual glitches as I figured most of the glitches have been covered by the community at this point.
- Shield Color: I found it is very difficult to tell when someone is “one shot” or “weak” in the preview, now that enemy players shield colors are red the same as their outline. I believe it would be better to keep the ‘Shield Color’ and ‘Player Outlines’ separate. I.e. keep the player outlines red but go back to the golden shield color, I think this is a better design choice for the multiplayer experience and I find it to be much more aesthetically pleasing and closer to classic Halo as well. - AR Range and Accuracy: The Assault Rifle’s range and accuracy in this preview was too high for my liking. I believe accuracy at full bloom is good and fair however I think the initial Range and Accuracy (as soon as you start firing with no bloom) is just too accurate, I felt like I was being lasered across the map by some of these ARs, which is outside of the weapon’s designed scope being close range. - Console Aiming Controls: Hard to say whether this one is design or a glitch but I will include it here. I’ve found the aiming in this game to be a bit unpredictable at times and like others on this forum I’ve haven’t been able to pin point exactly what the cause is. I do believe however that it may be caused by less aim assist than previous Halo games. My personal feedback would be to increase aim assist just slightly as I found everyone is now having to completely change their playstyle just to accommodate this i.e. playing on lower sensitives and a wide FOV. - Crosshair Size**:** This one goes hand in hand with my issue with the aiming controls, predominantly for the BR and Commando Rifle, I believe the crosshairs sizes are a tad too small, I know that this is because they are mid to long range precision weapons but when coupled with less aim assist I found it difficult at times (whilst playing on standard FOV setting) to place that crosshair on a target and I believe the tiny crosshair makes them almost useless at close range. Other weapons are perfect, Sniper Rifle crosshair for example is absolutely perfect, it’s good to see the return of a Halo 3 sized Sniper crosshair. - Heatwave and Bulldog Underpowered: Both of these weapons need a buff, I found the Heatwave to not even be worth picking up, not sure exactly sure where this one fits in the sandbox. The Bulldog was alright but again almost not even worth picking up given the strength of the AR at close/mid range, I believe the Bulldog would take well to a slight increase to it’s rate of fire. - Grapple Range: Really enjoying the addition of the grapple but I think it would benefit from a longer range. I found whilst playing on Recharge 70% of the time I fired off my grapple it would be out of range of where I was wanting to go. Given you only get 3 shots of the grapple per pick up I don’t think this would make it OP. Due to the short range and only 3 shots I found I was barely using the grapple. - Slow Sniper Draw Time: Bit of random one I know, but I used the sniper a fair bit in the Preview and noticed when I would swap it, it felt like it had a slower draw time. For example for those that use the Y-Y method to descope, I found there was almost a full second delay before I scope back in when swapping to the sniper. This bugs me a bit as it feels like the sniper is getting nerfed with every Halo game that game comes out. The Sniper already has a fairly low rate of fire these days and most of the maps are designed in these new halo games to prevent long sight lines with it. The Sniper is a power weapons after all, it should be a lethal weapon to be fought over. - HUD: This might come as a customization option later but I’m not a fan of having the ammo counter on the bottom of the screen and like others prefer the visual ammo counter in place of the numbered one. - Option to have lowered Crosshairs: Like in MCC please bring back the option to have a lowered crosshair like classic Halos. - More Classic Halo Sounds: Firstly I love that so much of the classic Halo has returned such as the BR, Armors and the classic shield regeneration sound. But why not bring back some of those real classic sounds that will guarantee to hit you in the nostalgia such as the classic 3…2…1 (Beep, Beep, Bleeeep) countdown for respawns instead of that new Halo 5 one. Or the old needler sounds or plasma pistol sounds. Personally I’d just really appreciate the return of that classic countdown more than anything. Hearing that classic shield regenerate sound really struck me with nostalgia. These are my main issues with some of the design choices there are a few other things I am still on the fence about and would be willing to give it a go for example the new Motion Sensor (only detects sprinting), Smart Zoom not descoping when being shot etc.
Overall I really enjoyed the Preview, the BR75 is the best BR since Halo 3, the Sidekick pistol seems fairly balanced, love the Skewer, movement feels great, art style is perfect (seems like a good combination of Halo 3 and Reach).
This is just some of my personal feedback since playing the Preview, some you may disagree with, just figured I’d give my input. I’ve likely forgotten some points, I might add some more later on, let me know what you think.
