Infinite Picking Up Where Halo Wars 2 Left Off?

Ok so I never actually played through any of the Halo Wars games, but have seen the “cinematic movies” of them on YouTube where you can see all the storyline play out, and it seems like Infinite is picking up in a spot that aligns perfectly with the end of Halo Wars 2?
Seems like an odd choice to me, almost like it’s more of a follow up game/story to HW2 and not the other 2 games that came before in the second trilogy.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Not really though. I mean Shadows of Reach took place a couple months before Infinite and the only tie in to it is probably the creation of the Weapon through the frozen brains recovered. Well that we know of… I swear if we find out what was in that box in this game…

I’m trying to remember the book outside of Shadows of Reach that really showed the relationship between the banished and the covenant. Halo Wars 2 and Halo 5 lead practically right into Halo Infinite like mentioned so of course they won’t have an insane amount of lore between the two events and Halo Infinite. That is what I was speaking of.

There hasn’t been any book like that though post Halo Wars 2. There’s the Rise of Atriox comics and a short story, but the only real stuff we got about them post Halo Wars 2 was in Shadows of Reach.

There was one more though. I tried finding it last night and failed to do so. I’m almost positive it exists. I’m not sure about the time period it is in

I believe Infinite will still serve as a sequel to 5, in terms of following the main FPS characters. That said, I think the end of HW2 was done in an attempt to start bringing the characters together, potentially leading to them showing up in Infinite or one of its expansions.

Its tough to say in the timeline of events regarding development decisions, but during the rethink stage for a sequel to Halo 5, they likely saw how well received the Banished were in HW2, and decided to incorporate them as ‘new’ enemy, and move the Created to the back burner to be dealt with later.

Sort of similar to how the Flood were a background enemy to the Human v Covenant focus. They pop up from time to time, and you know you’ll have to deal with them at some point, but the primary conflict is the HvC.

So, not really. While Infinite is carrying on the Banished faction, it isnt really carrying on the HW 2 story. I would view it more as a sequal to H5, but also merging it with HW 2 universe state. At the time of Infinite, we know Cortana currently has a form of authoritarian control over the galaxy by using the gaurdians. During this time, the banished have been slowly growing power by hunting down forerunner tech and taking over fractured covenant factions. However, even with that, the Banished are fundemantally different in their goals then the covenant and actually fear Cortana (they call her the Apparition which is a bad -Yoink- name).

At the time of infinite (roughly 2-3 years after 5 and about 1 year after Halo Wars 2), we know the Banished wanted to get control of Zeta Halo which resulted in a conflict with the UNSC who is currently on the run from Cortana. During said conflict, the UNSC hatched a plan to lure and capture Cortana and eventually delete her. Then the Banished appeared (or appeared before, we dont know) resulting in a Conflict on Zeta Halo. Did this conflict damage the ring? Was the ring damaged before? No idea. All we know is that something went wrong with the plan and Infinite will unravel what happened during the conflict, show what happened to Cortana and then deal with the Banished threat on Zeta Halo.

It wont be a direct continuation of HW2 and most likely wont involve the Spirit of Fire as we know they are still in conflict with the banished on the Ark. That being said, Atriox is no longer on the Ark as of infinite so its possible he appears in infinite though if that happens, I think it will be at the very end.

So in other words, this is a direct sequal to 5 while using the Banished to give them some flexability and an escape from the hole they wrote themselves into in 5. It will probably reference Hw2 is some ways but wont be a direct sequal.
