Microsoft have just announced that at GDC 2019, they’ll reveal the new XCloud XDK (XBox Developer Kit), see link at bottom. They seek to expand the potential XBox Live customer base to 2 Billion devices by enabling players to stream XBox and Windows Store Games to:
- any XBox, Windows 10 Laptop or Desktop
- Nintendo Switch
- Android devices
- iOS devices
(Basically everything but a Playstation!).
If this happens, with an XCloud Pass, you could start a Halo game on your XBox, then stream a mission on your laptop, then while out and about continue the next mission via your phone. This includes cross-play, playing, pausing, and even buying games on any device, along with all XBox Live services, from Achievements to the Social stuff (like the XBox App on Android now).
343i haven’t mentioned anything about this yet, but this idea raises many questions. So, if 343i did this:
(1) Do you like the idea of being able to play Halo Infinite wherever you go, and on any device?
(2) What do you think about the idea of Halo Infinite shattering Halo 3’s record 12M sales, and possibly reaching up to 2 Billion new people?
(3) Would you also like to see Halo:MCC and Halo 5 go onto XCloud?
(4) Or how would you feel about “100 Million new Halo players” including Noobs who will also have opinions on what future Halo games “should be like”, potentially drowning out the “Classic Halo Fans”?
(5) If the service is good, it could extend your current XBox’s lifespan, as you can play all your old and current games, but you could simply stream any new games that need a newer more powerful XBox model. So, could it even change your mind about getting the next XBox, and simply stream all new games via your current XBox, laptop or phone instead?
Discuss!
