Removing “forced” crossplay will only hurt the player population as it will limit players from being able to play with friends.
I come across a cheater once in every one hundred games at best. 99% of all issues people assume are cheating are just desync and poor server connection. Crossplay is in no way, shape or form an issue. I have the same experience on my PC and my Series X every time I play. (Except I do notice more bullet magnetism on XSX than on my PC.)
I wouldn’t worry about it, most of the responses you’ll get are from from PC players that know if toggle happened, their population would struggle to find games reliably without the console population. That’s why you’ll get criticized for how good of a player you are rather then listening to your lack of enjoyment of your experience.
Not flaming anybody, that’s just the reality of the situation.
But since infinite is a failed experiment of forced crossplay to increase player base = increase sales for 343, you’ll see toggle return in future games. 343 has lost alot of respect from the gaming community overall with the mistakes with infinite, some of them very very public.
With the house being cleaned out, and new expectations in place, you’ll see a greater emphasis on player retention via meeting player desires. So if you want to play only console, that will be your option, so long as you continue to play.
Infinites population is embarrassingly low for a title like halo, that toggling crossplay now would just create more unnecessary bad will.
i343 does what i343 does on the question regarding crossplay and possible toggles, and whatever consequences come after that for the game and me as a player I’ll decide then and there what my actions will be.
Anyway, on the question on enjoying the experience. OP’s entire premise is that 90% of the players going 30 plus kills are PC players, aand that they’re modding, that would be rather unenjoyable.
However it turned out OP was playing BTB exclusively, the mode where if your lucky stars shine and you get some flow going, you’ll rack up kills easily, and most BTB games end up like that anyway, especially if it’s an objective mode, having a few players going very high on kills and low deaths.
Considering that pre-AimAssist for MnK, that did happen frequently, there are quite a few controller players out there putting in some work in BTB and getting a high amount of kills, I will argue that a disabled crossplay would have literally zero impact on OP’s actual enjoyment of the matches they play.
People aren’t dismissing any lack of enjoyment of matches for any reason.
Getting dumped on is not fun.
The issue we run into is that a useless solution to the problem is suggested, as the problem stated doesn’t reflect reality in the slightest, neither from collected data or from years of history in previous games.
I think many of the other issues plaguing multiplayer’s quality impact the experience far more than forced crossplay ever did.
One aspect that I think many don’t consider regarding input methods is the SBMM.
Disregarding input method advantages and such, and just looking at performance, then ideally the SBMM would match players based on their skill, how good they perform.
Let’s say we quantify performance from 1 to 10 000. Regardless of what you use for your input and platform, the algorithm will give you a performance value, and the MM system then uses that to match you with other players in a similar range. In the end you’d have players who perform equally to each other with their own method of input and the matches would get more even.
The narrative of “PC gamers are a bunch of cheaters who ruin the game!!!” is cope. Over the years I’ve run into WAY more cheaters playing games on Xbox Live than I ever have playing on PC. (Last time I tried playing some matchmaking in COD World at War on the 360 I ran into nothing but cheaters literally flying around the maps instantly headshotting people) In fact, since I switched over to playing PC and ditched consoles several years back I can’t think of the last time I ran into someone in any game who there could be no doubt was cheating. Crossplay is nothing but a benefit and good for the players of a game. It increases the pool of people playing for all involved rather than splitting the playerbase between platforms, which in turn means a longer life for the game.
You would need a Pc to load those hack files in to a memory stick to even try to jailbreak a gaming consoles. It takes a lot of coding and understanding ware each file has to go’s in its programming as well. A Console ony gamer would not have the knowledge to even do that.
It still amazes me how much angst there is about PC “cheaters”.
As many have pointed out - there are probably no where near as many as people think. I’ve only clearly identified one in over a year of playing.
And in the end. Does it really matter? You are your rank. They are their rank. And the quality of the game only depends on each player performing to their rank.
If a player of equal ability starts cheating- they will rank up and stop playing you. Problem self resolved.
do you also know why there is there still angst for PC cheaters.
since the reason some people have that type angst is that its a commen problem that nobody cant fix.
there is no golden anti cheating software.
there is no anti cheating software that 100% that there cant hack to bypass it.
and most off all its that there destory the fun for the other people.
and the game developers cant do anything against then at all.
is it fun that players need wall hack or aim bots to win a match since there are super lazy to training there own skill level and win some match’s with there own skill level.
the developers from the game’s have a perfect tool its call perma block game.
but since some developers make it there game’s F2P the only tool to stop then has become worthless and pointless.
that means reporting then has become pointless to do.
why you think most console players are against force crossplay with the PC platform.
It’s definitely a monopoly to keep the elites on top and the poor kid who barely gets an allowance at the bottom. I don’t want to dive deep into this but it’s all about $$$$$… FPS(Frames per second) MATTER… these is no way consoles should play against PC when consoles with the best 4K monitor lacks when compared to PC… in the end, a lot of the issues with Crossplay fall onto the stability of the server maybe? Idk either way, Crossplay needs to end but that’s hard to do when the player count isn’t high enough….
TrueSkill2 is very quick to pick up “smurfs” and adjust their MMR appropriately.
I know why. I just don’t understand it.
The angst is common. The problem is not.
And that’s just a waste of emotional energy.
How?
Any “cheats” you may come across will be ranked to that level of play.
So if you ignore that they are “cheating” then the game should still be balanced and enjoyable.
Unless you get hung up on the fact that they may, or may not, have been cheating.
I’ve seen one player with a wall hack. One in over a year of playing.
Most cases of people being “shot around corners” is simply lag.
And aim bots? I guess. Haven’t really noticed any. The couple of times I’ve looked up people with high accuracy they actually seemed legit on the game replay.
I honestly don’t know.
Cheating seems to be very rare.
And as long as any cheater you come up against is ranked (and performs) appropriately it shouldn’t really affect your “fun” at all.
To some degree.
FPS. Input latency. Fancy controllers. 3D audio. Comfy gaming chairs. Speedy internet. A high paying job with lots of time off to practice. Tasty flavours of Mountain Dew.
Who knows what goes into each player’s final performance.
You just need to buckle up and play the best you can with what you have.
do you still like to play the game for the fun and enjoy it when you always get killt by somebody that use walhacks or aimbots to kill you each time.
that there each time headshot you with a sniper no scope or shockrilfe.
or look on youtube that in a game like cod warzone there kill you always from far away with a normal gun without scoping on you.
then maybe you need to play some MMORPG game’s since then you understand it good how anoying there are.
since cheaters there in MMORPG game’s are more worse then in FPS game’s.
since there use other cheaters what is more worse then aimbots or walhacks.
then i talk about spam chat bots and AOE hacks what is more anoying.
and you see then also that banning then in a F2P MMORPG has no use at all also since there always come back.
so cheating on the PC platform is very rare.
thats wierd then why has warzone 1.0 from cod a big trouble with the cheaters problem from the pc platform back then.
there have been more then half mill accounts that got a perma bann there.
what warzone 1.0 has show us is that F2P FPS game is asking for trouble’s and to make it more worse is the force crossplay system what is the most hate system there is in the gaming world.
Sounds like we are playing two very different games?
Not that hard to do.
I have a couple of mates who are high diamond / onyx and they would do that multiple times a match.
Which is interesting…
F2P certainly has it’s issues.
But I really don’t think “cheating” is anywhere near as rampant in Infinite as some people claim.
It gets conflated with desync, lag, and a good old fashioned dose of skill gap.
And importantly, a cheater will rank up and start playing people of their own skill level. So you are free to relax and play against people at your own level. Of course, some of those may then be lower skilled players cheating to get up to your level - but that’s emotional energy you have a choice to spend.
If the “elite top” make up a small fraction of the player base then their overall impact on the game is negligible.
Their superior FPS won’t matter in the grand total.
Not to mention, yes, FPS matters but it’s not as overly important to have extremely high FPS as some say, especially when you have tick rate and latency in the mix.
Depends on what these “issues” are?
“I lost spectacularly” is not one.
For ranked due to input differences and the nature of competition?
Warzone 1.0 released in March 2020.
Articles claim Activision had banned a total of 500 000 accounts due to cheating in May 2021.
What was Activision’s claimed Warzone playerbase then? 100 million.
Less than a single percent of at that time total accounts were permabanned.
its not that big anymore since the crash of the population last year that the cheating problem also has become less rampant.
since there also have to deal with the long waitng time before you can play a match.
and i bet there think the same as us that the multiplayer from infinite is compleet broken that its not worth to play it also in the first place.
only diffrend is that the social playlist has that system not that you play with other players with the same rank level.
and not forget that 343 has chance things also that before you can play in the ranked playlist you first need to play 10 social match’s.
you know there are game’s where developers have give some players a 300 year bann that there get unbann after 300 years.
in other therms its also a perma bann.
and what you tell about the warzone 1 problem is old news all for more then 3 year old news.
so each player that hate the force crossplay system and hate the F2P formule from halo infinite knows that news all before.
since its was for cod a bad mistake and 343 has done the same thing again.
