Infinite needs Performance based progression asap

The Battle Pass, weekly rewards and challenge progression system reward players that ignore game objective and teamwork. I have now played numerous matches since release where a good majority of the team is either camping weapons or vehicles or are outright ignoring objectives because they have a kill x amount with x challenges…

We need at the very least a progression system that rewards match performance and achievements over anything else.

While 343 is working on “improving” the progression system I wanted to make a point that the Battle Pass and challenges and weekly rewards are not a healthy system for Infinite. Yes Battle Passes are an unfortunate money-making gimmick in games now that will stay for a while, it does not make them healthy for the game.

What do I mean by that? Well, Battle Passes are designed to get players to spend money by playing heavily on the FOMO. While Infinites Battle Pass is Permanent, the weekly challenges still pray on players FOMO mentality still. Sure there are players that don’t care and good for them, but it’s still an un-healthy element in our game that affects players and the game in a bad way.

In turn you get situations like i mentioned earlier where players are more concerned with completing their challenges and BP over enjoying the game and playing how they want.

Another common trend that no one seems to ever mention regarding battle passes is how once the pass is completed the game feels “empty” or unrewarding to play. This is more common than people realize in games with Battle Passes and its a side-effect for rewarding people constantly for low effort which has now become a detrimental norm to players without them even realizing it. When they don’t get a reward they complain how “there is nothing to do” or “there is no meaningful progress”. Its not a healthy mentality for the longevity of the game.

Previous halo games had it right and it was very simple and it worked wonderfully.

Monetization aside Infinite needs a progression system that rewards players with unlockables through their personal performance and their achievements with increased XP rewards based on how well one does and maybe even have certain medals contribute additional XP. Ideally it would use Halo 3’s ranking system for ranked play and Halo Reach / Halo 5’s spartan rank overall progression.

So while i personally just enjoy playing the game the reward progression system in games now is the new norm so we need a system that is actually enjoyable.

100% Agree. I get the battle passes make these companies a lot of money, but it’s very unrewarding when you can just pay for everything in the battle pass instead of earning it. I’m not a fan of the daily/weekly challenges either and them not having progression/performance based XP. Very unfulfilling when you have a good game but get nothing for it because you didn’t complete any challenges that game.

I disagree, I don’t think performance is important for players progression.

With true skill based matchmaking in place, everyone performs pretty “average” anyway overall.

These systems never really work as intended. Like how in MCC players rank up faster playing Grifball and Infection than anything else.

Completely agree. There are dozens of reported cases where players are just going AFK until the match is over, camping vehicles, and avoiding objectives altogether. “Stockpile” on BTB specifically is just being treated like a free for all “challenge farm” by a ton of players.

I could see them adding XP based on match performance to encourage good play.
Playing the objective- 50-400XP (depending on how much you do and how often you do it)
Double kill- 50XP
Triple kill- 75XP
Killing spree- 100XP

And just keep giving XP like that based on performance.

I see your point regrading those modes and I’d think 343 would make an effort to balance xp values across certain game modes.

Skill based matchmaking is only there to balance lobbies. having a performance based reward system would reward players XP regardless how they do, they’d just get more for having a positive KDA over someone that basically threw the match because they focused on challenges and contributed nothing.

Aside from the ranked system this post was made to also point out the general issues with how unlockables work. A Reach / Halo 5 spartan rank unlockable system is far more respectful to players and their time spent in-game.
