Just came in after like a month or 2 of not touching the game. Yeah game still sucks. Aiming still is nothing compared to any other halo. Guns are lackluster and feel garbage as do vehicles. Still no progression. Nice to see that absolutely scummy game ruining store is still up and spitting in the face of all human beings that have the disgrace to look upon it. Alright, off to not play it for another 2 months and come back to say the same thing because 343 is inept.
I sadly have to agree with this.
Sure Halo 4 exists, but that isnāt a real Halo game but rather an abomination that wears Haloās skin and feels more like a mod to some other generic sci-fi shooter game.
But Halo Infinite is 343ās actual attempt at designing a Halo game⦠and it is honestly their third failure. The game is full of problems, empty of content, and it just feels⦠uninspiring to play. I have been a Halo fan since 2002, and this is the first actual Halo game that I look at and go ā⦠do I really want to play this?ā
I donāt even feel obligated to share this with my friends. One of my co-workers asked me what Halo was like, so I told him about the great games and about the problems of Halo 4 and Halo 5 Guardians. I stayed away from spoilers as I wanted him to experience the series anew and without tarnish. But when he said he was asking so he could see about installing Halo Infinite⦠I found myself warning him to not get his hopes up.
I explained the server issues, the anti-cheat being anti-existant, the lack of content, the inability to truly choose what mode you want to play in, the absence of proper Custom Games, and the delay of Forge mode, and the sheer underwhelming ness of the weapons sandbox when compared to the previous titles. When he asked me what the issues were with the weapons, I explained the problems of the small sandbox and lack of map selection, the weakness of vehicles in modes and maps that are meant to be dominated by them, and how compared to past games⦠everything is just squishy and playful rather than mean and entertaining.
Halo Infinite, as a multiplayer, cannot stand much longer. It needs ACTUAL support and soon.
Season 2 - The Lone Wolves is supposed to provide us with a wave of fixes.
ACTUAL fixes.
Not the distraction of āwe actually made a weapon tuning adjustment to a gun that people donāt seem to use that often. We made the Mangler weaker.ā
Once we see some more stability within Halo Infinite, I think I will consider it an actual game. Because right now⦠it is more than a chore to play it⦠it is a punishment.
If I had a kid that was grounded, I wouldnāt take away his videogames.
I would make him grind Halo Infinite.
I find it the opposite. Halo 4 was still partially directed by ex Bungie Max Hoberman CEO of Certain Affinity. Halo 4 played like a hybrid Halo 3, Halo Reach, and Halo Online. The campaign was meh, but the multiplayer played like modded Reach, and the customization was back to Halo 3 but with a ton more options, and unlockable milestone armors, which 5 and Infinite donāt even have. Halo 4 was the most Halo game 343 made.
Halo Infinite removes everything we know and love about Halo except for Master Chief, but they tried to fanfic a personality for Chief instead of leaving him a blank slate mostly silent protagonist for the player to insert themselves into for immersion. Halo Infinite is a Halo game in name only, and is otherwise the worst possible evolution of Halo 4 for a generic modern western shooter game.
It didnāt look like Halo. It honestly looked like someone realized āhey, a few pieces of this sci-fi game look like they resemble Halo stuff if I take off my glasses⦠lets make a Halo-inspired mod to this game!ā
It doesnāt sound like Halo, as the sound design from misc audio to the soundtrack is all over the place and lacks anything Halo had. Sure there are good tracks here and there, but they sound like they belong somewhere else and not in Halo.
It doesnāt play like Halo. The PvE had you focus on accuracy weapons instead of letting you actually play with the sandbox. Enemies would melee faster than you press a button. The Elites and Knights were bullet-sponges on higher difficulties AND you had less ammunition available to you at all times regardless of what difficulty you played.
PvP wasnāt Halo. It was, like I said, like someone modded Halo weapons into a Call of Duty game. Or at the very least, made a mod to allow Call of Duty loadouts in Halo Reach, since you have Armor Abilities and such.
Isnāt that what Halo 4 and Halo 5 did?
Sure Chief talks a bit more in Halo Infinite compared to Halo 3, but given the context of the BS that he has been through in Halo 4 and Halo 5; I would argue that it is reasonable that he blames himself.
āDonāt you ever let her goā Johnson said as he died.
And John lost Cortana in Halo 4⦠and she was the villain of Halo 5 Gorbians for some reason that is only explained in the books that only 10% of us read.
Now he has to work with pretty much an exact copy of what he considers to be one of his greatest failures. I would honestly expect him to have something to say about it. And his reaction, being hesitant to open up, makes sense given his background. But at least they didnāt make him an idiot in Halo Infinite unlike in Halo 5. Halo 5 was all "Chief has been working mission-after-mission non-stop and without a break between them. He is under heavy stress that he tries to hide away. A Hunter breaks the catwalk in the second mission and he hits his head, starting to see visions of Cortana⦠and he believes the visions rather than just going āouch that hurt⦠maybe some R&R is in orderā. "
4 is the best halo game we are going to get from 343
True. Iād rather have a remastered expansion of Halo 4 importing all the content from Halo Online and Halo Reach, like MCC added Reach and custom content to it, and with NORMAL CTF, than play Halo Infinite. Although, Iād actually prefer the Halo 4 Thrusters to be upgraded to Halo 5 style, because I hated how slow they were and the 3rd person. Halo Infinite is a hybrid Halo 4 and 5 Thruster pack which feels very mediocre at best.
I donāt know, Halo 4 was pretty bad.
Halo Infiniteās problems come from lack of content and poor user experience which are things that can be fixed.
Halo 4 on the other hand was just bad decisions all around. Not even the gameplay itself was salvageable, Halo Infinite at least got itās core gameplay down.
after a year 343 did away with ordnance drop except for specific game modes, and minus not being able to drop the flag CTF was very fun 4 also had a much more diverse sandbox and 5 even more so, finite is the most watered-down game Iāve ever played, i have never lost interest so fast in any halo, and it has the worst campaign of any game i ever played, itās just boring with almost no replay value whatsoever
The problem with Halo Infiniteās lackluster sandbox is the fact that they want to keep this game alive for a decade with content updates as a ālive-service gameā.
This has resulted in 343 Industries cutting content out so that they can add it in later on in future updates. You want the Covenant Carbine? Wait until Season āxā. You want the Spartan Laser? Wait until mid-season āxā update. You want the Gauss Hog? Wait until we add it to the game again!
It is an artifitial way of stacking the deck to say āEach Season will add new content to all aspects of the game, from map selection to the weapons sandbox.ā
⦠even though most of the ānewā content is just going to be stuff we have already had in previous titles. Covenant Carbine? Spartan Laser? Grenade Launcher? Gauss Hog? Plasma Rifle?
All were already a part of the series at a point in the past, some more than others; but all will be old content making a comeback.
The major worry I have though is⦠what will 343 do to screw up our favorite toys? Will the Covenant Carbine now be an energy weapon instead of a Kinetic weapon and have an overheat every 10 shots instead of a reload every 18?
Will the Grenade Launcher no longer EMP vehicles and shields?
Will the Gauss Warthog now have 2x the cooldown between blasts or will I have to hold down my firing button to charge it like the Railgun?
Will the Spartan Laser be just a Power Weapon version of the Sentinel Beam or Focus Rifle?
Will the Plasma Rifle overheat cause a shocking effect to my shields?
I worry.
It did have a different art style. I had major issues with Chiefs armor being different and still did in H5. But I agree with Mhx_Air. I think H4 is the best multiplayer theyāve made. Mind you, i didnāt like the jetpack, boltshot (which got nerfed eventually) or the 5 shot BR. But after 1 year, 343 did a great job of giving halo fans what they wanted out of Halo 4. Legendary slayer removed loadouts, gave us 4 shot BR and a much more classic halo feel.
This is also true, but at this point we knew 343 was doing their own thing with Halo
Halo 5 went even further into limbo in terms of sound design.
The loadout system was like CoD. Especially being able to respawn as fast as you wanted by pressing āXā
Having said all that, none of the 343 Halos have been āgreatā by any means but I think I had the most fun with H4 as it was on the heels of Reach and still had some identity left. Even though there was sprint, you couldnāt slide or clamber yet. Classic Halo jumping was still a thing.
H5 completely reinvented what Halo was and thatās what Infinite has evolved from. I donāt get where this āreturn to rootsā idea is coming from. Slowing sprint doesnāt return us to any roots. The only thing I see in Infinite thatās H3 is the chiefs armor, some classic sound design and the BR.
I would argue that Halo 4 was 343ās reinvention of the brand as a whole, and when it failed; rather than change it to how their consumers wanted; 343 Industries doubled down and made Halo 5 Gorbians with Brian YOINKING Reed.
Andy the Intern - āBoss, the consumers donāt like our art style redirection? What should we do??ā
Franchise Director, with an evil voice - āDOUBLE DOWN !! Make our textures HD and our armors unironically horrid.ā
Andy the Intern - āUm⦠⦠okayyy⦠Well, they also felt mixed about the story. And with Spartan-Ops a failure, what should we do for the next chapter?ā
Franchise Director - āPromote Brian Reed from a co-writer to the Narrative Director. We will punish the fans for not giving us the money we hunger.ā
Andy the Intern - āUm⦠⦠is that a good idea?ā
Franchise Director - āAndy⦠do you want to be demoted to Unpaid Intern?ā
Andy the Intern - āI understand⦠Iāll um⦠Iāll inform the team of your decision.ā
I completely disagree. The core gameplay is a derivative of Halo 5. Theyāre trying to do the best of both Halo 5 and Halo 3 and neither camp is happy. The so called new Slipspace engine was recently revealed to just be a modified Halo 5 engine.
But again, I hate sprint in Halo so you could imagine why I wouldnāt like it much. Movement design, inconsistent aim assist, weapon designs, grenades, player outlines and lower TTK are just a handful of reasons Iām not a fan.
Iām just an old man clinging on to a series Iāve loved since 2001 hoping the next one will be what I want and/or expect from a Halo game.
Right there with you, OP. Uninstalled almost 2 months ago. But im not even considering going back in until i see what season 2 offers when it comes out and even then⦠weāll see.
Yeah, sounds about right.
Sadly, over all, yeah I have to agree. Between the lack luster multiplayer maps and the lack of features, and just to much cookie cutter repeated campaign environments⦠It is the worse Halo right now⦠Not that there isnāt room for improvement to boost it up but as it stands now itās pretty bad⦠Oh did you just really enjoy that part of the campaign⦠wanna do it again??..sorry nope⦠You have to start an entire new game to do that⦠SMH⦠Even OG Xbox Halo had more replayability than Infinite on Xbox one.
The Skirmishers in game arenāt even Skirmishers, theyāre just cosplaying jackals which 343 had to cover their tail with by bending the lore in an Inside Infinite article to excuse what was obviously just lazy development. Give us Tāvaoans for God sake.
Agreed. Halo Infinite broke my heart. I will always love the original trilogy, but this latest installment may have pushed me away from the franchise.
While I do hope they turn things around, it may be too little too late for me.
Halo Infinite has virtually no core Halo anything about it.
Different physics, sliding, ordinance returns, no vehicles at base BTB, tiny generic arena maps that all feel the same, no grenade jump, no rocket jump, no team collision, no plasma pistol AoE or EMP, no hammer physics, no alternate melee for sword or hammer, no sword clashing without damage, no magnum, no OG shotgun, almost no game modes, basically no custom games options, no custom emblem, no custom emblem colors, no separate name plate, no custom armor colors, no shoulder emblem, no pregame lobby, no postgame lobby, no progression system, no xp earned from medals and kills, no sniper ricochet off of walls, no milestone cosmetic unlocks, no campaign armor unlocks, no career armor unlocks, cosmetics focused entirely around microtransactions, extremely weak vehicle damage, extremely weak vehicle health, no vehicle overshield, ruined Scorpion driving, canāt sit on sides of Scorpion, campaign built entirely off of spamming the grapple, multiplayer maps built entirely around competitive play instead of classic Halo casual fun, no open mic, Marines canāt drive, easiest LASO in Halo history, etc etc etc
I could go on and on. There is virtually nothing Halo about Halo Infinite. Itās seriously about as Halo as the Halo TV show is Halo.
At the end of the day, I could probably forgive and forget all of that stuff, if it wasnāt for the miserable servers and desync ping netcode nonsense making the game borderline unplayable and unenjoyable, on top of the worst challenge system ever developed by mankind. Unforgivable and unforgettable. 10 years can go by, they can maybe even fix the game, but people will not forget these issues.
Ok
they put the first ep. on YT and Iām going to do a second-by-second break down of why it is so bad in itās comment section.
