Infinite Hit scan

So from this multiplayer gameplay that we’ve seen, it appears that hit scan will be in Infinite. I have very mixed opinions about this. I don’t see why they decided to do this but there must be a reason. Let me see your guys’s input and maybe I can better understand it, because I don’t know much about hit scan and how it affects gameplay.

I still to this day do not understand how projectile worked so well in Halo 3 but it did lol.

Uh so long every halo game has projectile based weapons. No weapon in halo is hitscan. I highly doubt that they will change that in halo infinite

I can’t say I really looked… but what makes you think it’s hitscan?

As others have mentioned Halo has been projectile for a while… just that with most weapons they are too fast to notice. Projectile only really comes into play with things like the Hydra Launcher, Rockets, Fuel Rod Cannons, etc.

Good thing MCC exists so people who hate Infinite’-Yoink!- scan, sprinting, art style, whatever, etc. still have something to enjoy.

Playing Halo 2 right now with a friend and strafing and hitscan aim with the BR is not good. You cannot out maneuver hitscan without thruster like in Halo 5. It needs to have projectile aim or thruster or this game is DOOMED competitively/in ranked.

Exactly. Also, I don’t know what people are basing this conclusion on. From the footage, it seems (high velocity) projectile to me, not hitscan at all.

I highly doubt they will change much in Infinite, it’s gonna be just like before. Everything has velocity, it’s just that a fair share of guns will have such high velocity you’ll think it’s almost hit scan and most people do think Halo uses hit scan for some of its weapons due how fast the velocity is on them such as a BR. Especially due to that most fights in Halo tend to happen in more mid ranges where it’s not so noticable unless you’re using a gun that has a rather obvious slow projectile like a plasma pistol, though even long range in Halo it’s not really that pronounced when using a BR or other fast velocity guns when compared to other games that have far slower velocities on almost all their guns such as Planetside, Battlefield etc where in long range fights you gotta lead your shots a ton with almost every weapon.

I think you are confusing hit scan to bullet magnetism.

Possibly the fact that Halo 4 and 5 use hitscan. I’m pretty sure Halo CE and Halo 3 were projectile, and Reach, 4 and 5 used a combination of hitscan and projectile. I remember reading the Hydra and Rockets were projectile but the other UNSC weapons were hitscan. My memory is a little rusty, so if anyone could clarify I would appreciate it.

On topic. I don’t think it’s a big deal or a surprise if Halo Infinite is hitscan as 343i have used it in 4 and 5.

I haven’t really been doing line tests or anything. But I assume projectiles are in the game its just the UNSC that use Hitscan.
I’m a big fan of halo 3s br due to the ballistic model even if it was a fairly flawed solution. Halo engines are archaic haha.
It makes sense to have the allied AI be accurate and the work horse weapons be easier to master for accessibility but there’s a satisfaction to using a projectile based weapon and leading the perfect shot.
They could go with just reducing banished accuracy in relation horizontal movement speed I guess but projectiles just seem to make that solution better.
The imp in doom with its wind up and projectile with an aim that is less accurate the more you are moving is an excellent showcase for why projectile based weapons work well with enemy ai.
People are claiming that halo never had hit scan some saying the opposite
Its had both. And its has changed weapons between the 2 over the years just to make that clear.

How so? Halo 2 and Halo 5 have hitscan right? Halo 3 had projectile? I’m saying if Infinite is more so like Halo 2 and doesn’t have thruster then that leaves players who get shot first at a huge disadvantage because they cannot out maneuver straight shots to the head.

But then again projectile aim had way more of a skill gap.

Nope everything is projectile based even 4,5

Anything to back your statement that h2 and h5 has hitscan?

Lots of people say this. Can you explain to me the difference between hitscan to bullet magnetism?

Hitscan is very different to bullet magnetism. Hitscan is that when you fire the gun an invisible beam comes out and instantly hits the thing in its path while no projectile comes out. It also gives the illusion effect of the beam collision. Projectile based is that a true projectile comes out of the weapon and can have different physics associated with it.
Bullet magnetism is that when you reticle is near the enemy and you shoot, your projectiles converge towards the enemy automatically. It is more visible in h3 and h5. While seems like in halo infinite it is toned down. This was the best i can tell here. Watch some videos on YouTube where people tell the difference in them

Anything to back up that they’re projectile ? Almost every search comes up with the following…

CE: Projectile
H2: Hitscan
H3: Projectile
Halo Reach: Hitscan
H4: Hitscan
H5: Hitscan

With the exception of certain weapons like hydra and rockets this seems to be pretty accurate. If you have proof they’re all projectile please link it. I think 343i used hitscan in H4 and 5, it makes sense that Halo Infinite would be the same.

He’s saying bullet magnetism, projectile, and hitscan are all different things.

It is widely known that h2 and H5 are hitscan man. H1 and H3 are projectile. Theres bunige vidocs where they talk about it so theres your proof. they talk about in one of their H3 vidocs about how they went back to projectile in H3 and youll now need to lead your shots. Implying h2 was hitscan if you needed proof and couldnt tell h2 was hitscan just from playing the game. Ask any pro and they’d tell you H4 and H5 and reach were all hitscan too for the majority of weapons outside of fuel rod, rockets, needler, and a couple others.

I feel like it depends on the weapon. In Halo, it makes sense for weapons like Sniper Rifle, Shotgun, and other similar weapons to be hitscan, but not for most. From the Infinite footage so far though, just watching it, it looks like projectile to me. As long as it feels good to play, either is fine with me though. Its not a modern setting, so they don’t need to include lead unless its something slower like a rocket imo.
