Some of Halo Infinite’s textures are worse than Halo 3, a game fourteen years older and generations behind. Halo Infinite’s textures are also worse than Halo: Reach and Halo 2: Anniversary.
I saw these comparisons on reddit of the Halo Infinite Technical Preview running on maxed out graphics, side by side with older games. It shows some textures to be inferior.
good for you man. No one actually cares about zooming into a wall. All that matters is how it looks in motion during gameplay. Also, yes they are acceptable. Lets not be childish and throw a tantrum over something that doesnt matter

The feedback last year was not considered “childish” or a “tantrum” by 343 Industries. On this very website 343 Industries have said they appreciated this feedback and that it has helped them.
Halo Infinite having textures worse than a previous entry fourteen years ago, two console generations back, is not acceptable. Why wouldn’t you want improvement?

theres a difference between criticising the overall lack of complete graphical features and looking at a wall in 4k and zooming in on it and being mad its not as detailed as you would like. And yes, anytime someone says “its unacceptable” I view them as childish as that is never a reality

Except that looked bad in-motion, from far away. It just looked wrong and you didn’t have to zoom into a wall to be able to tell.
I mean if you’re talking about the technical preview, I’m sure that wasn’t the full graphical power of the game…

The problem is that consumers these days are far too complacent with the state of gaming these days. I always thought the texture work in halo 3 was wayyy ahead of it’s time. It’s extremely relevant today, with plants moving from explosions, bodies floating in water and having working physics. Games today feel soul-less, and far less ambitious than they used to be. I was really excited about the infinity engine, the tech demo was amazing, but the game that has been showed to us looks nothing like the engine demo. I remember being salty as hell when, in halo 4 you drop a weapon, if you look away for a couple seconds and look back the weapon de-spawns to save memory. Meanwhile In halo 3 you could travel to the end of a level and travel back and the weapons would still be there. This is particularly important on legendary, when bullet spongey enemies soak up all of your ammo and you are juggling power weapons to keep them with you.
Who else remembers the meat cube demo from gears of war 2 at an E3 years ago, or the wall destruction mechanics that never made it into a real game.
Halo Infinite has not released yet.
I would rather they prioritize frame rates and smooth rendering processes than prioritizing textures.
Also, it’s likely textures that are seen play players more prominently will likely look better than textured on simple background areas that don’t see much player time (like a rock wall).
Just my opinion though.
What platform are you on? If on Xbox, which version? If on PC, who is your GPU manufacturer?

that or players have shifted to more of a gameplay focus then pretty visuals. Many of the most popular games are not visual stunners and they dont have to be. Halo does not need to be a visual stunner in the current gaming landscape. It needs to play like halo at a consistent and high quality frame rate on newer gen and pc hardware. It needs to launch feature rich and have a competant campaign (story wise and gameplay loop wise). If that means the dirt looks like blurry dirt when I zoom it on it at 4k, im fine with that.

Being critical that Halo Infinite’s walls look worse than Halo 3’s walls, an entry from fourteen years ago. It’s called having standards.
If you joined a modern military and they gave you sticks and stones to fight with, that would be outdated and unacceptable. Games are expected to look better as technology improves. Criticism helps things improve.

What makes what u think that only what u thinks matters, I agree I needs to look better this is a new game and should look better all around.

Last year’s July 2020 demo wasn’t finished either, but that didn’t stop the feedback from improving the game.
-
“While some of the feedback was expected and speaks to areas already in progress, other aspects of the feedback have brought new opportunities and considerations to light that the team is taking very seriously and working to assess. We don’t have firm answers or outcomes to share yet but the team is working as quickly as possible on plans to address some of the feedback around detail, clarity, and overall fidelity.” - _“Much of the feedback we heard from the community aligned with our own views and work we were already committed to doing around things like indirect lighting, material response, foliage and tree rendering, clouds, level-of-detail transitions, and character fidelity. Still, the feedback was humbling, and it also pushed us to look at additional opportunities for improvement.”_If feedback on visual fidelity was helpful back then (when it was thought to be launching in 3 months), feedback now 3 months before launch is helpful too.

OP’s argument is that the modern iteration of Halo in some aspects have actually downgraded. I would have to agree. Somehow older games seem to have more advanced and dynamic systems, yet run at higher framerates. One of my favorite examples of this, is Tsavo Highway, you actually can destroy every phantom on that map, and the phantoms break apart in really neat ways, and the light that’s given off by them when they explode is gorgeous. In halo 4 however the ship you destroy in that game goes “poof” and vanishes when it explodes, same for halo 5… not so engaging and fun. It feels like you’re fighting plastic toys instead of awe inspiring aliens.

The devs said that the Flight was on an old build, meaning that graphical fidelity likely wasn’t as good as it will be at launch. Also, how perfect a wall’s textures look that you will likely never pay a ton of attention to when actually playing a match seems like a pretty strange thing to be complaining about. I mean, I get that 343 set high expectations with this game but do we have to critique EVERYTHING? One guy a while back actually was complaining about the dialogue including the word “inbound”. I mean, 343 is trying their best lets just leave them ALONE for a second.
I love how serious people are getting about the graphics for a technical preview. This preview wasn’t a final product and the build was a few months old already. No reason to get nit picky on something they weren’t even testing during the preview.

The irony is that this justification has been made for every game ever prior to it’s release, and the majority of the time games are pretty darn near complete, or the vertical slice they demo (god of war) is a darn near accurate approximation of the final product.

But 343 doesn’t want to be left alone, they want feedback. Did you consider what they want?

Just because someone says that its ok to never leave them alone doesn’t mean that they actually want us to complain at them, they just knew that if they didn’t say it then we would complain at them for not being more open to criticism. And even if they WANTED us to complain at them that doesn’t make it ok to do. We as the players must respect the devs.
