I don’t care about cosmetic and progression, gameplay is well more important and there are a lot of thing to improve !
You must’ve never played Halo 2 or 3 then if you think progression is only a PvE thing
That’s hilariously off base.
Nah men, Halo always had a cosmetic progression system embedded in it. Maybe you CHOSE to ignore that aspect over the years, but it was always there and was important to many peeps.
Not true Halo 4 was their ONL:Y content complete game day 1.
Too often people say that they cannot grind or progress anymore what would make the game boring. But the core gameplay would be great.
In my opinion because of my personal experience, lack of progression, grinding and cosmetic is just an excuse because people do not want to commit, that the core gameplay isnt that good as expected. Maybe many players do not want to be disappointed again with the new Halo, that is the most classic experience after a decade, but even that is not good enough at the moment.
If Halo Infinite at its core would be really that great as people often say, the lack of progression and grinding etc. wouldnt be such a problem. People would just play the game because it is good. At least all the Halo veterans.
At first, I played the MP because it was fun and I wasnt that good. When I became better, I noticed all the issues. But I kept playing because I wanted to get better. When I got too frustrated with desync etc., I played the game for the sake of grinding and progression, but even that became too tedious very fast. And now I have stopped playing for weeks.
I experienced the progress of downhill to the point, where I just played the game for the grind, not the fun. But then I accepted that this game is a complete mess and felt confirmed when even Favyn called all the issues I have already thought of…
Well how the hell did they managed that?
I don’t remember because I didn’t play it much, but either way, things have been a disaster since then.

Spread xbox master’s quote that he would never force xbox with PC lmao, it’s really broken thanks to crossplay, there’s a reason why we had best times & tons of fun back in old days until crossplay & dealing with PC lagging the games, being unkillable, & getting destroyed by em, all for what…?
MONEY ![]()
You’re a PC player i can tell easily without looking up since you arent complaining lol. Microsoft has been feeding xbox players to you PC players to easily stomp us hoping to motivate the PC player base to buy skins, PLEASE DONT SUPPORT BUYING SKIN OR MICROSOFT’S GREED PROBLEM.
Let those old gen boomer greeds feel the pain to hurt on $ for taking our best gaming experiences we had & hope they change their objective to focus on making game better experience for us than focusing on PC players buying skins👍
Halo 4 was without any uncertainty at complete game at release. Here are some of the main features that was part of the game at launch.
- 8 primary Campaign missions
- 13 multiplayer maps where 3 was made in forge if the Grifball arena is excluded
- 8 gametypes at launch (Slayer, Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Flood, Dominion, Regicide & Extraction)
- 5 Spartan Ops missions at launch
- Forge with few additional features and 3 purpose build Forge maps
- Theater for Multiplayer (unfortunately not for Campaign and Spartan Ops)
- Ranking system with 50 main ranks and 2 specializations (10 additional ranks/specialization)
- Commendation system with commendations for Campaign, Multiplayer and Spartan Ops
- Challenge system with challenges for Campaign, Multiplayer and Spartan Ops
- Customization system with a wide range of customization option (probably more options than Halo Reach at launch)
I agree that the useless/cosmetic obsession is weak, and disappointing. That said, I actually really enjoyed the system in Halo: Reach. There wasn’t any of this aggressive monetization.
I do think about this myself sometimes. The original campaigns were amazing to play because they really pulled us into an awesome world. I feel like Halo would have the opportunity to make an amazing PVP game that didn’t need progression, but it would have to be a game mode like Invasion for me to be immersed in it.
I never really was that passionate about online Halo 2/3, because of the lack of progression mostly… I loved the splitscreen multiplayer with friends, but wasn’t as crazy about the online multiplayer.
Bottom line, I certailny agree in regards to campaigns, but I do welcome progression and shiny new unlocks online, I just want them to be actual content and not emblems and colors that we should have had from the beginning.
Back in my day, there was only ONE armor set. You whippersnappers are spoiled, I tell you what
I have a similar sentiment. That feeling that if I don’t log in and play a game every day, I miss out on some in-game currency or, in this case, daily XP, I’m missing out on some progression. It makes games less meaningful, because all you’re in for is the progression. It make playing the game more exhausting and eventually burns out the player into just not caring about it anymore, where their only reason to play is for the daily rewards, therefore eventually quitting. There is a special kind of player who stays addicted to the progression long term.
As a fellow old man i have to disagree.
Cosmetics and progression have always been important. Whats changed is how companies control and monetise content.
For example: i used to play a whole lot of Quake 2 with my friends. Some of our favourite things to do were to download new skins/models for our characters and weapons, download new maps and try out new mods. Of which there was an almost unlimited supply. All of which were free and which could completely change how the game plays.
As for progression: I dont think players really want ‘progression’ as it is with Battlepasses and weeklies. In older games progression would take the form of interesting ingame challenges that would force you to play the game in a different way. The reward might be a new playable character, skin or weapon. That you can show off because you completed a tough challenge.
Now those parts are extracted from the game, monetised and essentially require you to just keep playing. The challenges now are lazy and just require you grind it out.
I’m fine with cosmetics being in the game, it’s just that 343i and pretty much every other game dev has a mentality of idea vomit and throwing everything out to see what sticks. There are too many options that are just meh. It would be far better if they focused in on the best cosmetic ideas they have and left the new content to new maps, game types and a good, rewarding progression system.
Just thinking back to Halo 3, there was a tiny fraction of the cosmetics available but people knew what Hyabusa Katana and Recon were and actually wanted them. Now you can just buy what you want and nothing has any skill or respect tied to it so what’s the point really?
Yeah, and here it is with all the resources they needed at their disposal, and they couldn’t even create half of that.
Not really, things have been controversial since Halo 4, Halo Infinite is where the disaster started.
I disagree because Halo 4 is where all the unnecessary changes actually took place that effected future Halo titles.
i am right there with you. cosmetics are so hopelessly boring and lame… why is this the one thing they focus on with a crap store? i wish they made the game FUN to play, but noooo… 343 can suck it, as can the higher ups… i am back on Halo 3 among the other great ones in MCC. Halo infinite can suck a big fat one for all i care. 343 and whoever is in charge of decisions ruined this franchise
i hope they’re happy with their wallets being filled by this crap
We have like 10 maps to play, like 5 gametypes, no forge, no way to play pve with friends, hardly any custom games functionality, less weapons in the sandbox than ever before, no new vehicles, and somehow we’re supposed to be content with this? And this doesn’t even take into account the game breaking or quality of life reducing bugs. It’s a step backwards from any halo game after 2007 in literally almost every way.
Yes, older Halos did have customization and progression. What they didn’t have was players saying “I got all the armor so this game is not fun anymore” or “I reached the max rank, thank god I’m free of this game” on the forums.
People would play Halo 2 despite being stuck at level 30 for 3 years now they won’t play unless they see a progress bar fill up little by little after every match.
I personally do not see anything bad about having cosmetics and a progression system. They are a great bonus to chase after when I am having fun but I just don’t see them as a reason to keep playing if I find no fun in a game.
To each their own. I guess.
