Halo Infinite has 4 main problems:
-
The netcode is awful. Desync/melee/hit registration is still absolutely terrible. Even 20 ping games feel hilariously bad.
-
The way they have implemented True Skill 2 for skill based matchmaking is awful and ruins both the ranked and social experiences. SBMM is not a problem, but the way they have implemented it is a problem, where everything is based around a global hidden MMR.
-
The progression systems are either non-existent or terrible.
-
There’s almost no content.
They have done the bare minimum to address #4, but it seems they are pretending #1-3 don’t exist in their roadmap. They really need to be commenting on improvements to all of these systems. Even minor tweaks to #1 and #2 could fix a lot of things, and I think they could copy-paste the progression system of Reach, Halo 3, or Halo 5 and most people could live with it. They could help #4 a lot if they’d just fix custom games, too.
As it is, the core of this game feels broken and like a beta at best, and the “live service” aspect of this game is woefully inadequate. I respect that the devs need to keep work-life balance in check, but if all they do is add some new content without fixing bad netcode, bad SBMM, and bad progression systems, the new content won’t matter.
