Infinite Flight: Warthog Feedback

The one thing that has always kept me playing Halo above all other titles has to be the unique vehicles and the amazing gameplay they deliver to larger maps. The Warthog specifically has always been my favorite. Big, heavy, four-wheeled, armored killing machine that’s always more fun with a friend or two.

All that being said, the Warthog in Infinite feels pretty good, but… although I love the way it looks, and the ability to change seats, and I LOVE the turret, it leaves much to be desired when you drive it.

First off, the acceleration is comically fast. From a sand still to full speed happens outrageously fast making for very little finesse and control. It feels like the Hog is literally running on RedBull. And yes, it gave it wings on more than one occasion. The collision physics are odd. When you run into a wall at full speed, you just stop. No crunching, no impact sounds, no damage or sparks, very anticlimactic and disappointing. There should be incentive to drive well! Now to the physics of the Hog itself. Aside from the ridiculous acceleration, it’s seems to have some form of what I’m calling upright “assist” making it incredibly difficult to roll. Sounds great right? If you’re a very experienced Warthog then no. I don’t want any kind of “assists” when I’m driving. Sometimes I want to flip or roll all the way over, and lots of times that’s part of the game, the skill of flipping it over and getting back in, I don’t want to game to do it for me. Just my opinion.

The Warthog seems to “skate” when moving, the tires don’t match up with a ground at all and seems to be sliding everywhere. For example, when you apply just a little gas and move slowly, the Warthog will be moving faster than the tires are turning, making the whole thing look off and unfinished.

Physics aside, the Warthog sounds… disappointing. When the Warthog emote first came to Fortnite I thought “that’s a hilarious sound for a tiny Warthog!”, but when I jumped in the Hog in Infinite for the first time I was like “this literally sounds like a toy”. It honestly sound like a Honda Civic with an exhaust leak, and the Honda car horn to match. This Hog just doesn’t have the sound of a heavy, armored, ring traversing, Spartan carrying killing machine, and the wonky acceleration physics just make it look like it was meant for a cartoon… or a Fortnite emote, not a modern Halo game.

Again, this is just my opinion.

The tire tracks are also pretty janky.

Most agreed with Eshcka. Not being able to flip the hog takes so much of the original fun and laughter out of driving.

The horn and engine noise were also very disappointing when I first hear them. Give it a big 'ol muscle car sound and an eighteen wheeler horn.

To me, it also felt like the Warthog is too “light”.
But it IS quite a heavy car, tho. And you should be able to feel this.

Also, I’m a little disappointed with the machine gun sound. Other weapons like the BR or Sniper sound really “rough”, even from afar. But the machine gun is almost soft and smooth.

as a pro warthog driver that loves to tumble and abuse the hogs break system to abuse gravity physics to make the Halo 3, and Reach warthog way faster than it should, I totally agree, halo infinite warthog doesn’t behave like it should

The main issue with the current Warthog is simple from my perspective. Ask yourself while driving the new Hog “why does my humvee drive like its in front wheel drive all the time?” from what I remember and going back to test, the warthog is a 4 wheel drive monster… everything is all slippery for what should be a peak UNSC military vehicle on the ground in the air, its so…on rails but also not…

I have a problem with the cam distance. It’s a bit too far for me to see stuff in the distance  also the hog is a glass canon now. It takes damage like a grandma playing tennis

Yeah, the warthog right now is useless. It’s made of papier-mâché and explodes when a bird hits it. Seems the warthog’s turret is the only good thing people are saying about it.

Admittedly, that turret does melt face. Is that why why 343 made the hog so fragile? If so, then I’d rather they nerf its cannon a teensy bit and buff the warthog’s armor, so it’s no longer made out of silly putty.

They probably don’t need to nerf the cannon, but they absolutely need to buff it’s armor. It’s laughably breakable. Except it’s just sad. =(

Yeah, the warthog sound is depressing. I guess they have the sound like that to match how delicate its armor is now. My buddy said it best, we could have blindfolded him the first time his character hopped in a warthog, and from just the sound of it, he would’ve sworn he was being escorted away in a mongoose.
