Infinite Feedback

Evening,
I tried to follow the links in the post “PSA: TECHNICAL PREVIEW BUILD ACCESS & SCHEDULE”, but they did not work to leave any formal feedback.
So I’d like to do it here instead if that is ok.
These are of my personal opinion:

  1. Battlepass xp/rewards should not come solely from “challenges”. As an E.g. I’m currently 50xp away from the recon looking helmet, with no way to achieve it till they reset, why would I or anyone play at all, till they reset?

  2. Some armour/skins should be unlocked through hard achievements and general awesomeness. (think of the original, not MCC H3, the original H3 Hayabusa/Katana, and the amount of time and effort that went into getting it)

  3. The bots are good, bar some occasions they get stuck ion a feedback loop, it’ll be interesting to see their improvement up the levels.

  4. What the hell is the plasma pistol doing, fair enough on overcharge instant shield drop, but it has always been good at take out shields with normal shots and rubbish on finishing kills.

  5. The music is stunning.

  6. The weapon sounds are incredible (sniper being by far the best), bar the plasma weapons, they sound like toy guns.

  7. The AI does not always indicate when you are low on ammo. The older Halo’s had, for example: the BR raising its tone when you were running out. It would be a nice to have to get something like that again.

  8. The aesthetic is beautiful, loading screens and all. It took a while to find the battle pass timeline, but other than that, cracking job.

  9. Customizations screen, adjust the camera angle from the ground to maybe a midline view, with the option to zoom? Maybe

  10. Customizations, slightly grey out the stuff you haven’t unlocked yet. Its not always easy to see the padlock

That’s my first 4 hours observations. Obviously not including technical difficulties.

Well said. If there is an “official” feedback forum, I can’t find it.
To your Battlepass critique, I would add that I would like to be able to check the status and even customize my armor without backing out of matchmaking. and yes! definitely! XP should be accrued through playing matches, or something, not just from completing challenges.

What IS the plasma pistol doing?

Completely agree with this

Yeah, I don’t know if there’s a method for feedback on non-glitch concerns. I had a few of those that I submitted but just feedback on deliberate choices I will post here.

  1. Post match scoreboard: the decision to go with white numbers on a light grey background is bad. You can’t read the scores. Hopefully this is already being changed.
  2. the decision seems to have been made to balance the weapons to be fair to respawning players but in general the power weapons don’t seem very powerful. I had most success just using the AR. The commando rifle had ridiculous climb without dealing enough damage to be worth it. I have no idea what the point of the heatwave gun is. The sniper, spiker, and rocket launcher seem fine. The shotgun shouldn’t take 2 shots from point blank range to kill someone.
  3. Red v Blue: The bots were always the “red” team as shown by a subtle red halo effect around them. But they were wearing totally blue armor. This became confusing when someone on your team had blue armor too. This ses to be a conscious choice to shift to having your armor color choices maintained in team gameplay. I hope not. Red v blue is an iconic halo aesthetic. It also makes gameplay very clear for the player. I urge the designers to revert to red armor v blue armor for team gameplay. Leave the color customizations for scoreboard screens and every man for themselves matches.
  4. Bring back Spartan dash and ground pound. Loved those elements in halo V. I missed them here.
  5. The bots did some weird move in close combat where they jumped and punched down on your head for the kill while their feet were at eye level. Some weird tactic that didn’t seem like it should be effective but somehow was.

Just my thoughts that I’m sure plenty will disagree with. Still, it was a fun experience.

OP covered a lot of my thoughts as well, On the whole the experience is a great one and 343i is clearly off to a strong start here. Music and UI were fantastic and the gameplay/combat loop felt superb. I already did a post on the bots but long story short for an average player to warmup with or as a stand in for a disconnected player they will do just fine however if they are to be a real challenge there is some real work needed on that front. I personally encountered some graphical glitched that I reported and there were occasionally UI issues and crashes but this is a technical preview so its to be expected. If the game were to launch in its current state I would absolutely consider it playable but not quite ready… having said that these days plenty of titles seem to launch in a much poorer state than this flight was in… The art style was beautiful to see and the weapons look and feel and sound AMAZING. The Plasma Pistol does feel like taking a water gun to the firing range and the Ravager just feels out of place to me… like it doesn’t hit hard enough on burst fire and the charged shot isn’t much better considering the time it takes to charge and fire. The Gravity Hammer is SUPER satisfying to use and the SPNKR makes an amazingly fun return to the sandbox. Over all I have to say well done 343i, From an old school Halo fan that saw this beloved franchise as having one foot in the grave you guys needed to nail this one and in my opinion if this flight is any indication you guys are on the right track.

I personally think these are all valid points being made, barre from 2 and 4 from theZandoZan. I don’t believe 2 was fair criticism as a high skill gap with an easy to play sandbox is something I personally encourage to assist new players due to the free to play element. Like the commando having high recoil, which I believe you’re saying, helps to prevent it from being an overpowered AR, and the weaker shotgun being due to the rapid fire element, which allows space for the classic shotgun in the sandbox. And 4 is what many believed to have contributed to Halo 5 feeling too different from the status quo of Halo. I feel that 343 are taking the right direction by delivering the tools to the players to encourage creative strategies that may reflect the enhanced mobility (e.g. the grapple hook).

But, I too found the lack of Red vs Blue to be very distracting. The outlines were at times unclear, and I can’t imagine that an enemy spartan with the same colour coating as their outline will be very effective for enemy/player differentiation. Maybe a better system could be to have blue outlines for team mates and none for enemies, or make the classic Red vs Blue coloured spartans a setting on a toggle.

Also, the outlines on grenades was also distracting, due to the orange glow making an enemy’s dropped grenade look primed.

Weapon racks are also plagued with the issue of outlines. I feel that when they are closed, a better system would be that the outline of the gun is not showing. Therefore it rewards the player on learning where certain weapons are based usually. I feel that the lack of weapons scattered around the maps in odd spaces like previous Halo games can sometimes take away the special feeling of a lived-in space that can incorporate story telling to the environment. Needler on the floor on a pile of blood? What happened here? Let the player decide.

These are just some minor interface problems I found myself, but I don’t think anyone has anywhere ‘official’ to give their feedback yet. Hopefully we get it soon.

On the point that OP made about the Plasma Pistol. Would anyone agree that dropping an enemies shield from an overcharge and then a teammate hitting the head-shot would not credit the plasma user with an assist?

I agree, they should re-introduce the EMP assist medal.

Am I the only one who doesn’t like the Menu? It’s often confusing. Still after 5 hours in game struggling with the Interface. Customization often don’t apply when clicked or it shows an other design as selected.

There were some glitchy elements of the menu screens and what they showed of your Spartan and other Spartans in your team. I reported those on the support website. I think the slightly cumbersome nature of the menu was due to the fact that we only had one choice to make from the multiplayer menu at this time. Once there are more choices, I think the menu setup will make more sense.

I’d rather it be an ordinary assist. There should be recognition for players that opt to land those shots. They are fairly risky considering the amount of time it now takes to charge. I find myself holding the charge and awaiting any sign of an enemy.

Yeah, I expected 2 & 4 to not get much agreement. If the idea was to focus on just general gameplay and less on the weapon balancing, the way they set it up makes perfect sense. If that’s the way those weapons play on launch, I think I’d be unhappy with them. Like the heatwave gun. Can someone explain it to me. I am fully open to it being just that I am a terrible player that that doesn’t know what he’s doing, but I couldn’t get above 1* in the academy with it. Made no sense to me. It looked like a rail gun but clearly wasn’t.

I get people that don’t like Spartan dash or assassination animations, but unleashing one of those on some sniper that’s just picked you off feels real good. I’m going to miss them.

The first tech preview was nice. But, anyway, there were couple of troubles. Grenades geo-data was little bit laggy, sometimes my grenade flew through the upper bounds of objects. The animations of harpoon and climbing were little bit laggy and it was like lack of frames into this animations to. Also the were questions with sound, sometimes I couldn’t hear commentator voice. I really wanted to see quality mode on my series S. So, for most of the time this beta was kinda good experience, thk 343! Keep it up guy’s.
P.s. you have to rework your menu interface.

My thoughts so far

  1. The outlines were something i didnt think id mind, but after playing, i really dislike them. Between a ping system, glowing enemies, and AI voice call outs you hear across the map, it seems a players situational awareness is no longer a skill needed since the game holds your hand so much. Having more info is great, especially if the team doesnt communicate, but this is a bit much. i mean get rid of radar then or something.

  2. Not sure if it was a bug or just not added yet, but team mates not having a name, service ID or emblem above them made it impossible to tell team mates appart. Couldnt tell which team mate was my friend when communicating in games. If team mates had ids or emblems above their head and enemies either had nothing or a name in red letters as u got close, thats all you would need to tell friend from foe, its how most other games handle it without red vs blue or outlines.

  3. no friendly fire dmg carrying over from H5 is disappointing. Friendly fire makes people play smarter, spam less grenades ect or pay a price. Its just another step in the game holding your hand direction. If this stays a thing then grenade blast radius should be reduced, make grenade spamming without penalty take at least some skill lol

  4. TTK values are a bit all over the place, a bit slow on the weaker weapons and feel a bit faster on the precision weapons. I like a high ttk in halo like the halo 2- reach feel, but these felt a little all over the place and needs tightened up a bit. a few fractions of a sec added on the br kill time and a bit faster on pistol, AR and even shot gun.

  5. not a huge fan of slide clamber or sprint in halo games, but i will say at least for sprint, it does feel better in infinite. The speed gap between normal and sprint is less huge and the weapon ready time is faster which i do like.

  6. that bullet tracking pulse rifle…ugh. so situational awareness, and aim are both done for you lol…while youre grenade spamming team mates with no penalty

  7. this isint a huge issue, but instead of armor coatings having preset colors, they should have the pattern (how colors are broke up on the armor) and the number of color slots (like 2 common, 3 rare, 4 legendary, with special or metallic color slots on higher end coatings) that way coatings could still be something players want to earn and 343 can still make money off of. but also keeps the classic ability of allowing players to choose their colors.

over all it did feel fun, but it feels like its going in more of a casual arena style thoughtless run n gun route like the old unreal tournament style, rather than a skilled shooter with bigger skill gaps.

Here’s all the issues I had. I wasn’t able to access the known issues page so there may be some redundancy here:

  • Froze while signing into Microsoft account right after inputting password. - Settings menu only makes ticking sound when scrolling in certain sections. - No Dialogue during weapon drills. Text is still visible. This problem never went away through restarts. - Strange haze effect when ADS in both drills and multiplayer. - Reload sound continues into the menu after the weapon drill has ended. - I changed both hands to prosthetics and I can’t change either of them back. I had a similar problem with the legs but it worked eventually. Changing one limb or limb portion changes the others like my dad’s pickup truck windows. A game restart fixed the visual inconsistency. - It took over the RGB on my Razer Viper Mini mouse which is flickering randomly. My other Corsair peripherals were not affected. - A ghost-like version of the word doc I’m using for these notes has just appeared on my desktop. This was the only other tab I had open at the same time as the game. It soon disappeared. This also happened to the file that appears when you start the game, there were two of them. - Having to click on the small checkbox to apply a coating is a slight annoyance. - I wish the X kill feedback over the reticle was more instant. - Consistent notifications on main menu saying I’m the fireteam leader when I’m playing solo. - Victory pose and orientation occasionally incorrect at end of multiplayer game. - Items in the battle pass screen are not visible. (Possibly only while queued for a game) - Grapple shot is very picky with what surfaces it will lock onto. - I had to restart several times but the game only froze/crashed once. - I’m in love with this game! The sound effects, physics, and gameplay are amazing! I would totally play this game everyday if I could. Considering its just a preview, I give it 10/10!

My feedback for Infinite:

  1. The sniper rifle scope feels too big when zoomed in, perhaps a reticle resize is in order for some weapons.
  2. The SPNKR’s blast radius is insanely big, I’m sure it’ll be nerfed soon enough so not many worries there.
  3. Graphics are incredible even for an Xbox One S, sometimes textures do take longer than usual to appear but that’s fine.
  4. Music is killer, absolutely knocked it out of the park.
  5. Bot tactics are always the same (They all rush for power weapons at start).
  6. AI only tells me I’m low on ammo when I’m out of ammo.
  7. Challenges should not be the only thing that provide progress to the BP.
  8. The detail put into everything is astounding, I’m excited to see what else is in store.
  9. Doing very specific things crashes the game if you know what to look for. (Armor hall factory reset on an armor socket where nothing is unlocked)
  10. Had a blast, hope to see what comes next in future flights.

I didn’t have too many bugs or issues but I did report them:

  • Everytime I pressed the A button to select anything in the menus on Sunday, a sliding Xbox menu opened and asked me to select my gamertag. It was in all menus, and happened everytime I selected anything.
-I started rubberbanding and shots stopped registering during the day on Sunday and only affected me in the Infinite servers, no other games lagged.

What I really want to see:

  • ID tags in game like in Halo 5 and previous games, so I know which of my teammates is which dot in my HUD.
  • Assassinations. They’re not efficient, they’re just for style. Everyone knows the risk of doing an assassination.
  • The niche of the previous shotgun was to be able to take on guys with swords. This new Bulldog is a fun weapon and I like it, but needing two shots means it can’t fill that role from its predecessor.
  • The Texan Spartan that yells “Over Yonder!”. Unless you are looking at the Spartan saying that, you have no idea where. Even just “Contact close!” or “Contact far!” would help more, and even then are vague.
-Something a little more dynamic than Spartans at parade rest at the victory screen. Regrouping and patting each other on the back; fist bumps; grabbing their gear and walking away; show the Spartan Commander debriefing them; something.

Overall I was absolutely blown away by the sound design, the menu music, the graphics, the gunplay, and the gameplay mechanics. It feels like a sequel to Halo 3 more than a sequel to 4 or 5. I loved Halo 5’s multiplayer personally, but this feels like a return to Halo form. The bots were fun to fight, but at the end of the day they’re still bots. The one PVP game I got to play in felt really good.

I feel like weapon balance could be lightly tweaked, but I’m not skilled enough to know which weapons and how so I don’t have a good opinion to mention. The only weapons I never felt was worth picking up was the plasma pistol and the Pulse Carbine, but I still felt that in a pinch they’d do the job.

Overall though, this has really made me excited for Halo’s future. I think the biggest hurdles for 343 are going to be server reliability at launch; postlaunch support that blows away the competition in customization and customer support; and anti-hacker tech to prevent what is happening to Warzone.

Very quick bug report i wanna make since they closed the Official Ticket report thing too early.

  1. Trying to change ‘Push to talk’ keybind made the whole game crash one me every time.
  2. When hitting ESC key for menu , the screen would flicker a blinding White for a split second until MENU screen was removed.
  3. Sniper S7 is ADS is almost unusable. Make it more flinch resistant so we can have more fun with it. Quick scope kills please!
  4. Adding or customizing keybinds would erase after turning off game n pc. It was annoying having to change keybinds everytime i loaded up the game.
  5. Melee hits would not register for me a few times.
6.TEAMMATES CAN STEAL UR KILLS WAY TO EASILY!
7.BATTLEPASS thumbnails would not appear for previews.
8.The PC stuttering on Day 2 of testing.

Thats all. GAME IS AMAZING SO FAR

I want to start by saying 343 has done an incredible job blending the best aspects of halo over the last 20 years and blending them into Infinite. They said this game is a “celebration” of Halo, and it shines through from the menu music, to the gameplay itself. The reception from the community has been overwhelming positive as well, which has been beautiful to see. Job well done, 343. I CAN’T WAIT for future flights and to see what the final product has to offer.

Below are some feedback on some details I think can be improved upon before launch.

  • Medals should have more color variety like Halo 3/Halo Reach. The tier system is cool, but none of the medals stand out since the tiers are the same color. Also, medals should appear larger and off to the left of the screen so the player is able to see them better.

  • Make ally death “x” larger so you can accurately call out “on my x” when you die in game.

-Ability to earn XP towards battlepass through just playing AND challenges. I played A LOT this weekend and it I was only able to make it to level 10. Not sure if this was a flight bug or not?

-Option to run weapon drills/access the firing range while in matchmaking que to “keep warm.” Kind of how Overwatch or Warzone does it.

-Tone down enemy marking color vibrancy/brightness, or give us the option to toggle no markings for enemies and leave them for teammates. Or, the ability to toggle red v blue for people who want to use that.

This would be my personal thoughts (General):
I really loved the preview so much, I think the menu, the music, the bots, the customization was really sick! And I’m really really grateful for the chance to experience it! I really really loved it!

This would be my personal thoughts (Specific):
1: The menu is great, I loved the background with my customized spartan and the music is sick at all !, I think a more clear menu was a cool idea!
3: The customization is perfect! And the contour of the color of the teams it’s understandable in a short time, and the capability of changing the colors of the team it’s fantastic !!
4: The movement in general it’s great and the movement sensor also!
5: The sound of the weapons it’s the most realistic that I’ve experienced so far!
6: The maps and their design (and details) are beautiful.
7: The combat it’s dynamic but the fact that you appear in the movement sensor if you run or use the grapple forces you to play in a more strategic way, so in other words, it’s perfect.
8: I think that the physicality of the objects in the preview was on point.
9: I fell in love with this game !.

More specific personal comments:
1: I think that the barrier shield it’s a little late when it has to open, I think a couple of milliseconds less would be more useful.
2: The threat sensor goes to infinity if you launch it into the sky.
2: In terms of the emblem (in the Waypoint app) I think it would be cool to change the color of the emblem like the other games (Maybe it’ll be implemented later, but it’s just a comment).
4: Maybe being able to do a little zoom in the vehicle bay will be great, in order to see the details of the vehicles.

Again, I’m really really greateful for this opportunity, so thnx so much 343i!! This game will be the greatest!! Congratulations!! :'D
