I TRIED SO HARD AND GOT SO FAR BUT IN THE END IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER
I’d recommend posting this as a reply in the pre-existing “halo is dead” thread here: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/forums/29568daf8cd14083bd1b70a810bf3581/topics/rip-classic-halo/5cb74dd9-69a9-43bd-9c59-3ebc1491232c/posts
But as for your points, they removed all the spartan abilities, and now the game has only three movement mechanics, being clamber, slide and sprint, which they will never remove considering this is 343’s third game.
Why is it free to play? Well sadly in today’s market, free to play games get the most attention. Even if they priced it, it would still be filled with microtransactions, need I remind you of the full priced Battlefield 2042? That is still launching with season passes?
And the multiple announcers is just a way to add more customization. Halo 5 also had it, didn’t see people complaining about that.
How will it lure MCC players? Well MCC is meant for fans who want to relive or play the original halo. If you don’t like halo infinite and want halo 3 remastered, I got some exciting news for you! 343i have been updating MCC for over a year now, and you can run the game on the highest settings at a nice resolution for that remastered experience. You should try it sometime!
I don’t know how you can compare what you saw to Overwatch and Apex… Didn’t look like that at all. It’s also more logical to kind of continue on what Halo 5 did. But this looked way better. No stretchy maps, fluent movement without the boosts and jetpacks, return of equipment.
Since its f2p there will be microtransactions for sure. Lets wait and see how much of it applies to people who actually buy the game. They already stated that the REQ packs are gone at least. As far as the multiple announcers go I like the variety (like the announcer pakc in H5). From what I heard theres the original guy as well so you’re most likely free to choose.
Also I dont think the goal of this game is to lure away people from the MCC and I don’t think the goal of any Halo is to re-do Halo 3. I get that people like Halo 3 but we shouldn’t expect any modern game to just be that.
Infinite looks like Halo 3 but faster. And it got rid of the stuff that made H5 not a Halo (boosters and ground pound), so it’s already doing better than 5. IDK where you got OW and Apex vibes from the trailers, but it isn’t even close to either of those games.
The fact that Infinite is free to play just shows that 343 want as many people to play Halo Infinite. Sure, there will be micro-transactions, but it’s all cosmetic only, so gameplay won’t be affected by it.
I’d argue that making it free to play shows more confidence than to sell it at a full retail price, there are many people who play F2P games & never invest into the ecosystem, so they’re probably confident in their post-launch roadmap.
As for how it plays, look, I love Halo 3 and will always put it above all other titles in the franchise purely for the fond memories I had with the game, but even I can see that traditional arena is just not popular in the gaming market today, for the infinite*(pun intended)* posts & pushback I can throw at the community and 343i, I know what they’re trying to do, appease a new market while trying to bring along their legacy audience, it’s not an easy thing to do and it’s fair to say they’ve failed hard in a lot of aspects, but I can at the least respect that Infinite looks to be an amendment to that turbulence, a gesture to both sides of the player-base, what we saw in the multiplayer reveal in my opinion looked appealing.
However, cautious pessimism never hurt anyone (I think), and that’s how I’ll view the game until I can get my hands on it.

> I don’t understand how many times we have to say it. Halo is not an overwatch/apex type of game and that’s exactly what infinite looks like. Just a continuation of H5 (which already strayed away from classic halo) with a mix of modern shooters that the kids play. The fact that it’s free to play worries me. Are they not confident in it? Will they throw in micro transactions? How is it going to lure MCC players over? It might bring destiny and Apex players over but again, that’s ignoring the hardcore halo community. Also why multiple announcers? We just need the original guy that’s it. Why are the colors so freaking bright? At this point all I want is a full remaster and release of halo 3. The UI and all. Just give us that please. The gameplay style of halo 3 will never be matched , apparently.
You should watch the reveal in 4k. It looks amazing and very halo.
Overwatch/Apex Legends player here; Infinite looks nothing like either of these games.
Overwatch is so restrictive compared to the other two and Apex’s system of doing this doesn’t compare to Halo at all. Apex and Overwatch look pretty slow compared to what I saw in that trailer.
I’ve played both those games for a good few years and frankly Infinite looks nothing like em gameplay or artstyle wise.
I would understand if that was a first reaction to seeing it but it doesnt sound like an informed opinion at all. Comparisons are worthless anyway, it should stand on its own merits not on the merits of other games you deem similar (which, btw, Overwatch and Apex arent similar at all).

The only thing that was bad about Halo 5 was random loot boxes, storyline and bad customization other than that the movement was great. Halo 3 will always be a legendary game but personally I preferred Halo Reach multiplayer but Halo 3’s campaign was the best imo

Halo 5 gameplay was solid but it got bogged down by the shaky story, the REQ system and armor customisation that didnt go very far.
Forge and Custom games were majorly improved in 5 but the systems to work them are complicated and annoying and Forge wasnt even a launch option.
Halo 5s mistakes are ones we’ll hope 343 have learned thoroughly

Good points. I feel that Halo Infinite is definitely heading in the right direction though.
I guess time will tell, so far I am really happy with everything.

So far im pleased but I want to know whats what in terms of customs and forge. Those are usually my go-to for social interactions and having the most fun. And I love making forge maps but Halo 5 was too complicated for me in terms of user interface. It seemed designed for PC players and not for controllers

Did we watch the same trailer?
I don’t get the gripes here. I’m definitely more of a classic gameplay fan and I felt like this was the closest we’ve got to that from 343 so far. They’ve stated even starts are important (so no load outs), they moved away from armor abilities back to equipment, the grapple shot/deflector/tracer dart are just new pieces of equipment like the bubble shield or power drainer were, and they toned down sprint and a lot of the advanced movement mechanics. And I don’t even know how you think the colors are too bright. They seem closest to Reach to me which were pretty matte. I think Halo 3’s armors might’ve even been brighter.
Realistically, I think this was about as close back to classic gameplay as we were ever going to get and I’m here for it.
Yes, I too want a new Halo that is Halo 3 but isn’t Halo 3 but totally is. Or just Halo 3 but new Halo 3 but basically Halo 3 and not new at all. Xbox 360 Halo 3 Master Chief collection Halo 3 anniversary Halo 3 but Halo 6 divided by 2 that looks like Halo 3 and sounds like Halo 3 and plays like Halo 3 and smells like Halo 3 arby and the chief mt dew Doritos
Halo 3. Halo 3. You know why Halo 3 was so good? Because it was a ripoff of Halo 3. And Halo Infinite should do the same.
Where’s my new old Halo 3? I’m so mad I don’t have Halo 3 that I’m gonna go play Halo 3 about it.

for real, I think it looks amazing. Its by far the closest to classic halo we’ve ever gotten. Its looks like reach and 3 had a baby which is incredible with some added mobility for modern times but completely toned down from the h5 insanity. Ive played tons of apex and overwatch and it is nothing like either of those games like not even close. How this clown came to the conclusion that it looks like those games is beyond me. Some people are just weird af and just want to play halo 3 for 30 years straight lmao living in the past

One half of the Halo community in a nutshell.
Sorry man, gotta disagree. I think Halo looks like the perfect blend of old and new. I hate to break it to you but the landscape and expectations have changed. Best you just stick to MCC and let the rest of us have fun.
God man, you have blown up the wall, we have been here to make the game worthwhile, you come to comment on this outrage, look I know that halo 3 is very good but it does not mean that it has aged badly, currently people complain about new armor of Halo 3 and more -Yoink- from Halo 3 do not make people happy bah. If you don’t want to be here playing this then don’t.
I appreciate your opinion, I don’t really agree, but that’s what these forums are for, exchange of ideas and opinions. I do want to say though, the video was made to get people talking and it has, so that’s the intent.
Halo will always evolve, but I am not fearful of what 343 will do. If Halo: MCC has shown us anything, they understand the fabric of what makes Halo, “Halo”.
I think it looks amazing! Equipment is back, and this looks like Halo 3 to me. I’ve played Halo since 2004, and I am seriously excited for this. Granted, there are things I would like to see changed, hit markers, for instance. Would be cool to be able to turn those off. I don’t want ADS for any guns that shouldn’t have it, I don’t want sprint or sliding (if they’ve kept that from the demo.), and I don’t want monetized armor coatings to take the place of base player customization. But look at the bright side, no more ground pound, spartan charge, hovering, they made the hit markers WAY less noticeable than the demo (I wasn’t even sure they were still there until I saw a specific freezeframe), black under suits, EQUIPMENT! I can’t express how excited I am for that. This looks insanely fun, and if we have any ideas for what we’d like to see different in the future, we need to come at if from an attitude of humility and respect, not demand anything from them. Have humility about your own opinions, because they are your opinions at the end of the day. That being said, as older fans, our opinions matter, and if they’re to be listened to, we have to come at them with dignity and respect. We have to show appreciation for what 343 has done and how they’ve listened to us as a community. They really care, and I think we can work together to make Infinite better in the future if everyone sees eye to eye about these points for discussion, because there’s a lot of time for that
