Infinite Campaign and Marketing Fears

Hi all i enjoyed the story in 343’s Halo 4 however halo 5 in my opinion was just all over the place and a mess of story telling i feel like didact shpuld have been kept around longer and making Cortana return as the villain in halo 5 was a big mistake but then If i remember correctly im sure i heard 343 done there usual marketing BS and released a book set after the events of halo 4 and the didact apparently survived halo 4 ending but then was killed off for a final time in said book that was released after the halo 4 game! This is what bugs me about 343 they leave stuff out the games and instead put the missing chunks into books and other content! Its like halo 5… all of a sudden blue team is on the scene and back with chief… for those that never read the books this was confusing as the previous bumgie games make out as if master chief was the only spartan left… it also filled the people who play the games with a ton of questions… who are blue team? How did they know chief? How did they survive reach? Where have they been this whole time during the events that took place from halo CE, 2, 3 and 4?! Why didnt they help save earth during the previous halo games?! Bungie on purposely made master chief the only remaining spartan in there games to make the character more important to story and give the player that feel of your character being hard-core and invincible and 343 swooped in and took all that away by having new spartans created like the annoying sarah palmer and team osirus etc then bringing spartans from halo lore into the game without any back story or explanation for those who are fans only of the games…we shouldn’t have to jump between platforms to fill in huge plot holes in the halo story! Im just hoping they haven’t made the same mistakes with halo infinite as every keeps saying the book shadows of reach will fill in the gap between 5 and infinite… just give us all the story in the game!

"who are blue team? How did they know chief? How did they survive reach? " Sits down and cries
This is the problem with the dramatic expansion to the Halo universe. They do an awfully poor job translating these things to the games and it hurt me ever so deeply.

Yeah and i understand theres lots of huge fans out there that read all these books and know all this lore but it would just be nice to be able to stick to the games and know exactly whats gone on without relying on other material to fill in the plot holes its not even like there very small plot holes you can just turn a blind eye to aswell! I have a nephew who is 8 and loves playing halo hes been playing it with me for a couple years now and he loves the story in the games etc but he was so confused with halo 5 and hes to young to read the books and take the information from the books in at that age but fingers crossed infinite explains everything especially since there saying you dont have to gave played previous games to know the story… however they haven’t said you wont need to read there books which kind of worries me aswell…

I wish they would release a 2-3 missions that pretty much covered a book such as Shadows Of Reach. I recommend listening to them if you cannot read them however that in no way fixes the broad issues for the majority. It’s a problem that 343i has created and it is unfortunate because the stories in the books are practically all better than Halo 5’s story lol.

Yes thats all it would have taken a couple missions to fill in gaps or even cutscenes explaining stuff but nope they just jump past all that and now there getting back lash for that latest multiplayer trailer as people have been questioning what the time line is and how theres loads of spartans in it… apparently they have come out and said the trailer is set arpumd the same time as halo 3… there wasnt any other spartans on earth fighting in halo 3 just master chief! Its like the hole 4 opening scene that done the same! Showed the covenant attacking earth and aload of spartans with chiefs halo 4 armour fighting Covenant and brutes whe they attacked earth in halo 2/3… there messing with the previous halo stories and time lines bungie created just dont understand why?! They really need to back off and keep going forward not altering the events in past games even if it is just for cutscenes or marketing!

I feel like the dialogue in halo 5 show the didact is very much influencing her through the domain and that and the logic plague should be key plot points in halo infinite as we search the ring give us fragments of cortana and urdidacts past recent and ancient out of order and have the player play an active role in putting together the lore so it isntba case of required reading like before but references the EU for fans. Creating a continuity between all the lingering threads and making this a true complete feeling story from 343i. The banished being a tool of the didact till atriox turns against him and ur didact begins to recover from the plague. Cortana dies for good and the ur didact joins humanity in preparation of the floods resurgence. With chief getting geass driven moments that reveal he is imprinted as both bornstellar and rizer.
Also missions where you get to know the members of blue team and have coop delay mean something by giving them parallel objectives and different mission intros till they meet chief. If its just chief clone or mp spartan in coop ill be very disappointed. Let the games fans get to know these guys, reference the books in little ways. Reward EU fans and give games fans a deeper understanding of how awesome halos universe is.

Haha thanks. Not bad for 30 seconds of thought so I’m sure 343i writers can do even better.
I like the idea of John 117 having a human and forerunner geass cause it make him feel like the ultimate reclaimer. Its heavily insinuated forerunners and has have a shared ancestory or that precursors where essentially humans so I think that be a really cool direction to go. Make forerunners more present in the now and make the precursors the mysterious ancient aliens with no answers to our questions just speculation. It lets 343i have their lore and their easy to get into mysterious space opera stuff.

Yes that all sounds good to me! Its like halo 4 which went abit further into chief being a reclaimer and the run in with the librarian i enjoyed her telling more of the back story of there race and the flood and didact etc and then upgrading the chief saying she seeded many hidden “gifts” within humanity, and that the Didact can only be defeated by unlocking this dormant potential in the Master Chief, granting him ‘immunity’ to the Composer just a shame 5 kind of dropped all that but hopefully your right and they rekindle all that and tidy up the story!
