I never got to play the flight so I was wondering if anyone could fill me in on what the spawning was like in the 4v4 flight test? Specifically looking at spawn flipping, as in 3 and Reach and as far as I can remember 2, there was no spawn flipping in most gametypes and 90% of maps.
Example Hemorrhage in Reach had read team blue team spawns and no flipping even if the enemy got right up on top of you. I have no issue with this, I think if the enemy team rolls you to your spawn then too bad. I personally loathe spawn flipping because it ruins the idea of map control, since enemies just spawn behind you. This was especially evident when MCC version of Reach dropped, and there were issues with the spawning, where in BTB red enemies would spawn at blue end and vice versa even in modes like territories and assault, completely breaking the game (although that seems to be fixed now).
Basically just want to know if anyone could fill me in on what the spawning was like in the flight, and what they think it will be like in BtB in future. Would be stoked if they’ve confirmed old school spawning mechanics and not the newer model of spawn flipping seen in games like COD etc.
It’s hard to say specifically to be honest, actual player vs player was only live for 2 hours (for me that was 3am-5am, so it was a bit rough haha).
Spawns seemed pretty good to be honest, I can’t really say I ever had a bad spawn on the 3 arena maps. Never too far away from combat or my team and not in danger.
Spawns definitely flip when you push into the opposite side of the map where the enemy team are at.
Just feels pretty familiar to every other game to be honest, wasn’t anything noticeably different.
Cant really comment on BTB as we haven’t played those maps or modes yet.
Halo 3 and Reach has spawn flipping in almost all of the maps for anything slayer based.
Maps can be set so spawns can’t switch, as in forge you can set the points as Blue team, Red team or neutral. This was mostly abandoned in Halo 3 outside of objective and MLG variants.
Spawn trapping without flipping the spawns is a skill in itself. I have no issue with it personally.
Infinite had spawn flipping, and players spawns outside of danger closer to their team where possible. So it seems it is a lot more like 3 and not 4. In 4 you can spawn in each others laps.
I detected no issue with this during the first flight, but ofc it wasn’t pvp.
It wasn’t like the original trilogy where you spawn on top of each other. It’s very much like 4 (and probably like 5 too, but it was years since I played that so idk) where the game detects where the action is and spawns you as safely as possible.
So I don’t think we need to worry about that.
there is spawn flipping in slayer modes as there should be. There is also a small invinc window so you cant spawn and get sniped instantly. Its an extremely small window but its enough to allow players to move before death
It was pretty good. Only 4v4 but you spawned closer to teammates (your side) pretty well. In BTB you’d have to wonder if they’re going to use the ‘occasionally spawn in the other team’s base’ thing. Idk about that.

Also BTB in Reach and 3 definitely didn’t have spawn flipping even in Slayer. In MCC it does because 343 changed it for no reason. But after 10 years of reach on console I knew every single spawn and in BTB slayer there was no flipping. Can’t speak for 4v4 really.
I personally loathe spawn flipping because if your team is bad enough to get spawn camped that’s on you (I personally don’t spawn Camp it’s lame, so I’ll end the game as quick as possible by flag capping or whatever is necessary to make it fair).
So I’ll be very disappointed if BTB has flipping. As it completely removes map control from the game. You used to be able to cordon off areas, if that’s no longer part of the game I’ll be disappointed.
