Infinite Beta Feedback - There is Hope

Firstly, I want to say I am glad quite a few things have already been addressed (FoF toggle, HUD customization, Jeff in Btb, etc.) While I will wait and see if these are actually delivered on, it’s incredibly nice to know they hear us.

However, there are still quite a few things that could really (and seemingly easily) make Infinite a 10/10.

Disclosure: The progression system is a high point here but as it is currently being addressed, I’ll omit it from this list

The radar is still busted (range & elevation)

  • While it’s nice they will be increasing in BTB, that does nothing to fix the issue in arena. I find myself getting blindsided quite a bit. By the time an enemy shows up, they’re already on top of me.

  • Elevation is still too hard to distinguish at a glance. A “slightly less glowy” dot is not sufficient.

Red Reticle needs to be added for PC (at least for controllers)

  • initially I thought this was only a problem in regards to knowing a weapons effective range but after playing a bunch, it’s much worse. RR also acts as an indicator of when Aim assist is in effect during a gunfight.

  • So in the event that and enemy is out of RR range, your cursor is moving on raw input. Once the target is in range, it then relies on input + aim assist. Without knowing WHEN the aiming mechanic shifts, you have no way of knowing when to adjust HOW you are aiming. This leads to often feeling like the aiming is fighting against you since the transition is so abrupt.

Strafing Acceleration needs to be adjusted

  • Without inertia in strafing, K&M players have a huge advantage as they can spam ADAD.

  • There is no readability to strafing which makes the game less about being strategic and more about reaction.

  • I won’t use the space here to explain unless needed but as it turns out, this fix is already in the game. In customs, you can change the acceleration rate. I personally have found with it turned to 80% is optimal and gives that H3 feel when strafing but I think even 90% is a large improvement to what it’s currently set at.

Player Collision needs to be on across the game

  • From a combat perspective, it’s incredibly frustrating to have enemies slip away by phasing through a teammate while you get cleaned up.

  • It’s also frustrating to have someone walk through you when throwing a grenade/rocket just to commit suicide while they face no consequence.

  • And of course, having enemies just sit on top of each other in corners to camp in oddball is also annoying.

  • Without it, there is no consequence to poor teamwork and positioning

  • From a Halo perspective, it really turns the immersion off. You can’t do any of the fun physics-based stuff from previous Halos. It feels unnatural.

Friendly Fire should be on in Arena

  • I can understand turning this off on big team as it’s much easier for people to be trolls in a large setting. In arena though, I’d claim that most people are playing with others so it’s not as needed.

  • Having a decent reporting system is a much more player-friendly solution as opposed to a broad, heavy handed approach like removing a feature from everyone.

  • Without it, there is absolutely no consequence to poor teamwork, poor positioning, or grenade spam.

Other items

  • Grenade bounce should be toned down a bit, especially for the plasma grenade.

  • Bulldog needs a small buff (shouldn’t be losing to am AR in cqc).

  • Objective items (flag, oddball) need to be one-hit. Being able to “swing faster” doesn’t mean anything if the enemy clips through you after the first hit when trying to beat each other down.

  • Armor items should not be locked to specific armor cores. It is absolutely BS that I can unlock a color I like and not be able to use it on the armor core I’m using.

  • Armor colors should not be locked behind the XP grind or paywalls. There’s going to be plenty of content to push people to buy (let’s not pretend they’re not going to try and sell us assassinations when they’re implemented). It’s nothing more than greed to lock colors behind the paywall as well. 343i should be ashamed for even trying this.

  • Players should be able to join back into a ranked match if they get disconnected. R6 Siege has this, why can’t Halo?

  • If a bot is going to fill in a spot for arena, please have it at least be ODST difficulty. I’d rather have no teammate than a bot feeding kills.

  • Being banned for being disconnected due to server issues shouldn’t be a thing. At least include a timer on how long someone is banned. I will not sit there and wait an undetermined amount of time to know if I can play your game or not. MCC has a timer, why can’t Infinite?

  • Player Quitting is nothing new but there are so many opportunities here. People tend to quit if they’re not having fun so that root cause needs to be addressed. Have people be able to join back in the event of crashes, have a veto system, skill-based matchmaking, input-based matchmaking, rewards for finishing playing (and playing well). Utilize hopper-based queuing (like MCC) so people can play the game modes they want to play. All of this already exists. Give people reasons not to quit that revolve around them ENJOYING the game rather than trying to fulfill a hollow need to “complete a challenge”.

  • Why is there no general text chat? If the reason is toxic players, it’s absolutely ludicrous to remove an entire feature because of some bad eggs. Have a good reporting system and let us talk to each other. It blows my mind that MCC, a collection of games from YEARS ago has more features that are far better implemented than Infinite.

It ended up being long anyway but please share your thoughts! I will add stuff to the list as well if anyone has any suggestions. I hope 343i is still listening because Infinite truly does have the potential to be the best thing we could have for Halo.

Thanks for reading!

Please fix the Game Cr5ashes. 5-10 per day is much
