Infinite and the PS4 Population

With 343 taking on the new way to monetize Halo, such as the Battle Pass, skins and vanity items. It would be incredibly advantageous I would imagine to get the PS4 population involved.

In my opinion it would be amazing, obtaining an even more robust population too. Which I would really REALLY appreciate.

Aside from money, is there any other significant reason why Halo has not been made available to PS4? Obviously we don’t know what negotiations have taken place and what is said behind closed doors but this strikes me as odd at this point. Microsoft/343 take all this time to make a new Halo only to handicap their reach to Xbox and PC players.

With all the proven success of cross platform games such as Fortnite, Apex and even Destiny (Bungie, 343’s Daddy) lolz; moving to make their title available for all players to play with each other. This at least from a consumers perspective seems to be an amazing model with huge success.

I believe if 343/Microsoft really want to make a huge wave in the gaming scene in this day and age. Adopting the new monetization model, coupled with the cross platform model to maximize potential and growth would be incredibly advantageous.

Get Halo into as many hands as possible!

PS I can’t for the next flight
PSS I can’t wait for the release
PSSS … HALO

Unlikely as Sony charges companies a fee to implement cross-play with their consoles.

Also the reason it is available on PC is to drive sales for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. It will not, and should not, come to PS4/5.

I wonder why God of war or the Last of us haven’t come to Xbox. It’d also be great if ghosts of Tsushima and Sly Cooper would as well. It’s kind of odd that they aren’t available on Xbox yet.

Halo is Xbox’s flagship exclusive. It will never be available on PlayStation. That is literally the epitome of shooting yourself in the foot to release your flagship title on a competitors console. The only way Halo would ever conceivably end up on PlayStation is if Sony decided to play ball and give up their exclusives as well, but that will never happen

They aren’t going to let their baby end up on PlayStation its an exclusive for a reason.

It’s an Xbox exclusive, definitely not going on Playstation.

I would not say money is the reason but perception. MS struggled last gen cause of the lack of quality titles that could only be found on their platforms (not saying there wasnt any but there were few from their 1st party). Halo is essentially 1 of the big 3 (forza and gears) and MS wants there to be as many exclusive experiances as possible on their platforms.

So money, is what youre thinking

As a believer in the ye olde saying, “What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.” As much as I would like to have Halo on other consoles, I do not see Halo Infinite coming to a Sony console anytime soon. I mainly believe this to be true simply because Halo Infinite is what will drive Series X console sales being one of the premier games.

However with that being said, MCC on the other hand I can maybe see coming to other consoles with Nintendo getting first chance since Xbox Game Pass is rumored to be coming to Switch.

Edit: Seriously!? Just three days ago Phil Spencer disclosed Game Pass will not be coming to Switch or PS.

As a PS guy, I think it should stay on Xbox. Halo is like its defining exclusive. It would be nice if there were no exclusive games, but there needs to be somewhat of a competition.

Ya, I get it’s an exclusive and it is a prized title. But what has been 6 years since a new Halo? How much does Halo really carry the Xbox? At this point, someone how knows nothing about Halo, never played Halo is going to go run out and buy and xbox? Maybe a small percent, a fraction is my guess.

I still 343 would make a ton more money if they could get to the PS4 population.

AND its a shame IMO that PS4 crowd wont be able to try their Free to play Halo

It’s a very pathetic situation as far as I’m concerned.

Money is what they’re thinking, and it’s ultimately not worth it, even if it was feasible, because it would just be one less exclusive for the Xbox. Which of course doesn’t help the Xbox’s chances in competing with Playstation.

Right, that’s what I am saying, we agree its money.

Yeah lol. But there’s more to it as well I think. Halo is Xbox’s flagship title and I reckon letting that go would probably not be very good for their prestige. And while I’m sure plenty of PS players wouldn’t mind getting their hands on Halo, I doubt a truly significant or worthwhile quantity of players would get hooked for very long (which is just speculation of course, take it with salt)

Its been an Xbox exclusive for 20 years…it does not need to be on PS. Might I add that out of every game that it exists today. The Master Chief is one of the most recognizable characters in video game history as well as Halo being one of the best selling games in video game history and this is despite the fact that it’s an exclusive. It needs to stay this way.

Sad. Situation - we need more Halo players

Lets run with that speculative thought. PS4 players would not retain interest in Halo Infinite. With that in mind what is the point of the exclusivity? Does Halo really bring a significant percentage of net new players to the Xbox platform? I think not.I have friends I game with that have no interest in Halo and they’ve not expressed any interest in running out to by a 6-7 hundred dollar console because of Halo. Id image, that rings true for the majority, who have never had an interest in Halo.In my opinion the only thing happening really is 343 is going to lose out on a whole lot of potential capital they could earn and any potential of net new players goes down the drain, which is a bigger loss IMO. The smarter Dev teams and Studios I believe avoid this situation, its a nightmare, I think to be stuck in this antiquated idea of console exclusives, is the real killer to creativity and motivation not the removal of exclusives. This idea that exclusives somehow invite competition is a wash as far as I see. Your hypothetical you mentioned is one good reason.

Well honestly, I’m not that sure. I feel like it’s at the very least responsible for a significant percentage of returning players to Xbox, if not new ones. I know some people who have both consoles just to have the option of playing either’s exclusive. One less exclusive for the Xbox, and a prime one at that, could make the difference on whether someone buys both consoles, or decides not to get an Xbox because one of if not the only exclusive they care about is now on PS. Granted, this was largely anecdotal, and I have no idea exactly how that would end up working out on a large consumer sale. But my speculation is that Microsoft would be trading a couple of novel $60 game purchases for the loss of too many $500 console purchases to make up for it.

I also can’t help but think that they don’t want to devote time and resources to making a Playstation port, especially this late in development, after having already delayed it a full year (on top of the game already having been planned to release an unusual five years after the previous). This makes sense considering how much is riding on this game after past missteps.

Well firstly. This game is going to be on Xbox Game Pass…which isn’t supported by the Playstation/Sony. Secondly, Halo is synonymous with Xbox at this point. 20 years on the same console while remaining an exclusive is important. Playstation has their own exclusives. Also why would it be important to include Playstation? From a business point alone…of course you can argue game sales but the multiplayer which drives the game is free. This game is ultimately going to push console sales and Game Pass Subscriptions…They dont need to sell to Playstation what so ever.
