Dunno about any of you, but I refuse to say the game’s dead.
Sure, low steam activity, but like. That ain’t everything, sure we can assume how many are playing Xbox but tbh, that still doesn’t matter.
Y’know why?
So long as it’s still being played, the game ain’t dead, so stop saying it is. Besides, from what I’ve heard and even seen, this is a bit of a trend, so how about we all stop being melodramatic as well as saying the same
, and instead wait things out.
EDIT: My only regret with this post was that I made it in anger. Aight y’all have a good day.

Now 16th most played game in Xbox US region (Updated every Tuesday) , behind Ark, FH5, NBA 2K22, and 22nd in UK. It’s F2P and XGP title, it’s dying.

Agreed, it has its highs on some days, I think in this dystopian society people want to complain about everything no matter what game your playing on either console. Been playing Halo for years and will continue to do so, its not the only game I play for sure but I always comeback.

You know what, people are tired of “waiting things out”. We paid for a full game but we got a bate that is called a game. What, a decade isn’t enough time to learn how to create a Halo game?
Serious, 343 has one of the biggest banks backing them up, yet infinite is in the worse state any Halo game has ever been in. We paid for a full game in one form or another, but instead we got a beta that a business is struggling just to add content 7 months in to it, let alone know how to fix the major amount off issues they caused. Or, there are things going on behind them closed doors 343 will not tell us. There is no legit reason/excuse for infinite to be where it is at the moment (because a lot of it was by design choice. In other words, 343’s deliberate poor actions is literally casing the player base to drop off.
You are right, infinite isn’t dead, and it won’t die, but because of 343’s actions the players will continue to drop off that not even the f2p MP will help them, especially asking the player base to spend money but they refuse to really offer anything in return other than over priced shop. It’s time to stop the, lets baby the billion dollar business, because it’s doing absolutely nothing for the player base.

It’s not dead until it’s killed (i.e., 343i announces they’re abandoning ship and will cease to update/fix/add to it).
That said, I can’t imagine for a second that 343 and MS are happy with its performance and player retention (lack thereof) so far. I’m sure there are questions about whether fixing and adding iteratively to Infinite can really ever make this game the success they wanted it to be in the first place, but it’s clear to me that they’re invested in this game for the next 2-5 years at least. It’s not hard to imagine they’re torn between keeping this as the “10 Year Platform” for Halo or starting work on a new flagship game in the background, but in either case, Infinite is likely going to be getting seasonal updates until such a new game is released.
The radio silence we have been getting since the S2 launch on the game’s long term plans is a bit concerning, but I think they’re just biding their time while they work on QOL improvements and promised content additions for Infinite, and deciding on what big steps are next. Hopefully when we start hearing more details about S3 and onwards, they’ve got a solidified direction and strong messaging behind that.
It is compared to games like destiny, fortnite and hell even pubg lol
Considering 343 is still having trouble staying staffed up they couldnt start the next halo even if they wanted to
Right it’s not dead vs the competition, but it’s pretty much a dead product to most gamers who respect themselves. You really can’t call it a “live” service when you can’t even fix a problem plaguing the game for almost 1 year (desync).
Halo Infinite is a Dead Service game. You wouldn’t understand it, it’s a “strand type” business model.

The only time it breaks 1k viewers on twitch is when it gets carried by streamers that don’t usually play the game. That really low effort trailer that just got released just really made me done with this game…

In terms of possible growth it died on release. The severe lack of content and downright predatory monetization has driven away so many players and given the game such a bad rep that growth is gonna be extremely difficult.
Sure there are still some people playing but those player numbers are only gonna bleed and rarely if at all gain.

It really died when they decided to make MP free, but only as a barebones MP experience of Halo MP, as well as the upcoming BR.
BR is pretty old genre by now, and it’s honestly on its way out. Right now gaming trends are leaning toward open world/exploration, and that’s where Halo Infinite could have gotten the largest audience as well as dropped the ball massively.
I’m gonna say something really darn controversial so listen up: Halo Infinite should not have been a Master Chief game.
What I mean is, 343 has this push toward Spartan 4s but they keep giving them horrible narratives and even worse in-game characters to represent the entire Spartan 4 concept. Halo Infinite could have been:
- Player focused Spartan/Elite PvE open world Campaign
- Storyline will focus entirely around the Player picking up the trail after Master Chief and other major characters as they explore Zeta
- Could have a potential story branching if the player is a Spartan or Elite, but ultimately fighting against the Banished
- Open World concept would actually be great for a multiplayer or even MMO game
All these I have stated should have been the MAINGAME and MP is just an MP with no narrative, just for pvp fun. Now then we can talk about DLCs which focus on each character the Player is currently looking for. DLCs should feature new weapons and expanded story through the eyes of these other characters.
But what they did is try to make a FarCry : Halo with a badly implemented MP + chasing an aged trend in BR which may or may not even fit Halo’s gameplay. What they needed to do was really recapture the biggest audiences of Halo for a long time, the Reach audience, by giving them a Reach experience once again. These other major characters? They’re there, they’re alive, they’re doing their own thing, but you the player, you are following bread crumbs, going solo like in ODST and unraveling the truth. The Weapon will be your companion and the character in Infinite will be the spiritual successor to both Chief and Noble 6 combined.

It’s on crutches, born in need of digital therapy.
But they keep using the wrong bandaids, and intentionally ignore bad wounds over ones nobody’s complained about.
It will recover with more features.
Fixed bugs.
I think the more obvious state is that 343 or rather MS themselves know it’s dead
The more puzzling thing is they didn’t even try and resuscitate it. Are we supposed to believe that MS while landing Infinite actually rather positively at launch then decide to completely abandon it?
Seriously something is very odd about the whole thing giving me the sense they just want the franchise dead. Maybe the franchise just doesn’t fit into the current climate of things being pushed and so they can’t do anything with it
Quite bizarre though that such a mega franchise has been left to die seemingly on purpous

I never read forums or social media, first time I’m seeing anything about the game being dead. I log in every day and play an hour of BTB with a few friends and haven’t noticed anything. Can you feel the game is dead by playing it? If not, then why does anything else matter.

There have been reports that some players have extremely long queue times for less popular modes, as well as the flagging player numbers.
It was behind Battlefield 2042 on PC at one point, and it is in 16th place on Xbox’s most played games. As of writing, it’s also behind MCC in terms of concurrent players on PC.

I also think Microsoft is quietly drowning the Halo franchise, either that or these bozos are actually impressed with 343’s work? I think it’ll do Halo some good, put it on a proper hiatus and let the general public forget about the terrible story 343 created… then in about ten years reboot the entire thing with new polish and all that jazz. Who knows, maybe Halo will become relevant again. Unfortunately, it ain’t gonna happen with whoever is in charge of things now though.
I agree, it’s definitely not dead. My friends and I love it and play several times a week. It’s been my go-to game since the beta launched.
We already played the waiting game halo 5
And this one is a even worse waiting game as its nearly a year and we only got 2 seasons at least 5 had forge and infection along with a custom games browser by that time
The only time Halo feels lacking is when I visit these forums. When I just play the game, everything is fine.
Internet outrage is dramatically disconnected from reality, regardless of the subject matter.
Halo ain’t dead. Not even close.
