Can someone please explain (in a non rude manner) why infection gametype is so important? I’ve played it in Reach and 4. I never thought anything about it was particularly special. It was good when there was a shotgun or sword daily cheevo. And even then I played the mode begrudgingly. Lacking daily achievements in 5 I don’t much see the point. Does it have more to do with forge and linked to other custom games as a whole?

For me, yes. That is the reason. So many possibilities with that game type. Also I enjoy the standard infection game mode.

I have no doubt some prefer the game as is, just baffled its so popular. Possibilities for other custom games as a reason makes a lot of sense. I’m not much of a forger or custom game designer so i’m not as versed in how gametypes create opportunities for other games.
Infection is important because it is one of, if not the most versatile gamemode (when done properly) there is. This is because it’s basically the only gamemode where the different teams can have separate traits. Everything from Speed Halo, Duck Hunt, Fat Kid and countless other amazing customs requires Infection to function properly. Without it, most of the best and popular gamemodes are either completely unrecreatable or significantly worse then their proper infection counter part. Right now, Halo 5’s customs are limited to slayer with different player traits and starting weapons and whatever you can manage to do with strongholds which is essentially a bastardized version of territories. So, adding Infection alone would go a LONG way to make Halo 5’s customs that mucg more enjoyable. Of course it needs a hell of a lot more than just Infection, but Infection is definitely at the top of the list, with good reason.
This is what kept me playing the game when I get bored of matchmaking in H3 and HR back in the days. Custom games were extremely fun and I frequently recieved invitations to play. This is what the community wants, this simple gametype to revive custom game’s prime.

Seeing as customs don’t count towards commendations i’ve always avoided them as a waste of time personally. But thank you for the different perspective.
