Why does everyone seem to love this camping the highest point game type with over powered weapons that kill the flood from a mile away? It took no skill at all to play it. The only reason it would be good is for the unskilled commendation hunters that couldnt get them in arena or warzone.
My suggestion for when Halo 5 has Infection implemented is that the Flood/Infected have shields that don’t recharge, letting them survive a few headshots.
Well not everyone is a hardcore player and would love to kick back and enjoy a game stress free and have a laugh or two. Survival gametypes always have a special part in many peoples’ hearts. And for infection, its something that s been around forever, so to take out something so classic in halo seems to be a problem. That’s why people want it back. Not everything has to be hardcore and I feel that 343 missed that when making halo 5, and that’s why everyone wants social playlists.
For starters, it’s a casual game mode. Your “takes no skill” argument is not a mark of low quality, merely the casual nature of the gametype. It’s campy nature derives from the fact that Infection, conceptually, is based off the zombie apocalypse. Personally, if I know zombies are coming, in a game or real life, I’m grabbing a shotgun and getting to high ground, because I’m not letting those rotting monsters take me alive.
Beyond that, Infection is the base of HUNDREDS of custom game variants, such as: Fat Kid, Ice Cream Man, Speed Halo, Duck Hunt, Cops and Robbers, Predator, Ghostbusters, Hot Pursuit, Air Raid, etc, etc, etc.
All of which are casual, I will give you, but also very, very fun. Also, kill the flood from a mile away? If anything, Halo 4’s Flood have sniper rifles for arms for how far away they can lunge from. And don’t even get me started on that thruster pack.
Additionally, I find it odd that you’re complaining about Infection, a gamtype currently not found in Halo 5, on the Halo 5 forum.
I agree OP. Never understood the obsession with infection. I think I have played a total for 5 games across all halos that had it.
my wish list is better big team maps and game types.
Because it is fun and offers a lot of creativity in designing game types.
The OP of this thread is what heresy looks like.

Burn the Heretics!
Infection is a fun casual game mode, the same reason why Action Sack was a very fun playlist. It’s a nice change of pace from actually concentrating and trying sometimes.
Infection playlist I could give a crap about, it’s all about the customs. There’s a reason it’s one of the few custom games from Halo 2 that started an actual gametype in the next game, it was player created. If you’re complaining about skill in fun customs you’re playing the wrong game. Hell if you want a game that’s purely based on skill you’ve got the wrong game and the wrong system.

I love the idea of fan based creations. Im working on halo titanfall game mode currently to play with my friends while we drink. But i just dont get the love for Infection. I read so many posts about how we need it or else 343 and i just shake my head. So im tryi g to understand it.

The Halo Reach Infection was stupid IMO. It really was a camp-in-the-highest-spot-and-shoot-the-zombie-heads fest. I liked the Halo 4 Flood better than Reach Infection because it was more fair to the infected players.
Why bother making a thread about this? You don’t have to play it.
Thats right i don’t have to play it. Im just trying to figure out what makes it so special
I really like Infection. What I really love is Juggernaut but I never get to play it. I would freaking love a Juggernaut playlist!!!
Someone above said it very well. It’s very casual and unique. No other playlist is even remotely similar. Infection fans, of which there are MANY as evidenced by population sizes in previous games, don’t have anything in the current Halo to play that is similar to their favorite gametype.
Even if you don’t get why people like the playlist, you have to agree that the many fans of infection deserve their favorite playlist. Subjectively, I will say it is much more deserved than doubles or KOTH, both of which not only have similar variants in the existing game but also have historically much lower population numbers.
Others have pointed out Infection’s usefulness for making minigames, but the gametype itself isn’t quite as bad as it’s made out to be.
Official developers have never done a great job of balancing Infection; the closest thing to a good setup we got was Bungie’s Reach-era game settings, and those were undermined by horrible map design. (They insisted on having four-player split-screen support – nearly impossible for Forge maps – so us community mapmakers never had a chance at getting anything in that played perfectly.) However, the gametype itself has a fair amount of potential.
The main problem with Infection is that the Survivors control all map flow and game flow – imagine a CTF game where the defenders can move their flag spawn anywhere they like, at any time. However, Reach and H2A made it possible to build linear Infection maps, where Survivors have to make it to the end of a fixed path. These linear setups take away all of the Survivors’ control over game flow (in that even if a spot is imbalanced, camping there won’t allow them to win), while also promoting teamwork among both teams to a greater extent than normal Infection (because the Survivors are all in the same place going the same way). Linear Infection is Infection at its absolute best, and I really hope that 343i adds the features we need to Forge it.

Fun, massive amounts of unbalanced, non-competitive, unadulterated, pure fun.
That thing that used to be the reason most people played video games for.
I don’t care what happens in Matchmaking. Infection needs to be in Custom Games, there it doesn’t suck. It provides options that are near impossible to do otherwise, the most important being the forced one way team switch and the randomization of teams.

Indeed.
