Infection mode flawed

I am an avid fan of all halo gametypes, however infection seems very unbalanced. If I play as a survivor, it’s easy. Everyone just stands in one place, easily wipes out infected as they come along, losing a minimal amount of players. If I’m an infected, it’s nearly impossible. Why can’t infected sprint? I need more of a challenge as a survivor, and more of an edge as an infected. It just seems the balance is tilted too far towards benefiting the survivors, when I think that’s where the real challenge should be. If anyone remembers playing a custom zombie game on halo 2, you know what I mean.

Doesnt seem too different from previous itterations to me.

If you play as the Infected, roll as a group. Strength in numbers.
Attack as one.
Charge in when someone else goes.
Do NOT go one at a time against a large group of Humans.
If you can even manage to get one person with a group attack, it helps.

Too many people treat this as a gametype you must win.
Just play as a team. Roll as a team.

I argree that it is easy for the survivors to win, but hasn’t it always been this way? In Halo 2 it often took 20+ minutes for the zombies to break through. The difference is not the strength of the survivors, it is the length of the rounds.

I think its the most balanced version yet, infected win more often then survivors.

I agree completely with OP. in the past infection game types its always actually been difficult to survive the whole round. This infection mode is way too easy as survivors. Not trying to sound like I’m just hating on 343i or anything like that but it really is just too easy for survivors, and at because of that, way too hard as the infected. I really like how as survivors we start off with just one clip in our shotgun and limited ammo with the AR but imo survivors shouldn’t be able to use the spartan boost ability. Also the infected do not move fast enough, even if you swarm two survivors with 4 or more infected, which by the way is very rare because survivors just find a corner of the map and stay there as a group of like 7+, it’s very easy for them to kill all of you because you really just are no threat as an infected. in past iterations of this game type the infected were fast enough that if you missed just one round with your shotgun the infected wherein you and you were dead. It was intense and actually rewarding as the survivor if you got something like Zombie Hunter and surviving the round was by no means a small feat. In this current state of infection the survivors win about 80% of the games in my experience of playing it for a few hours.

This may be just my opinion but it always seemed to me that when playing infection I wasn’t actually playing Halo anymore. I don’t need or want to feel like a spartan, I am a survivor trying to survive the zombie horde that will inevitably overwhelm the humans. Having access to my spartan abilities while the zombies are also shieldless, very very slightly speed increased targets just feels totally unfair and way too easy from the survivor point of view. I like having the challenge to win so I’m not trying to come off as saying “It’s too hard to win as infected” but it’s just so easy as a survivor that infected have such a lousy time trying to convert that its actually not even fun to be infected. Several times while playing as Survivors i have encountered the infected and because they saw that i could see them, they just stood still and accepted their fate and die.

I will say that i really enjoy the maps that they have in the playlist. they really set a good atmosphere for the game type. It just also feels like (perhaps unintentionally?)these maps also make it very easy for survivors to just camp in a dead end area or in a far corner of the map and pick off the infected as they continuously run in and die.

People sitting on top of light posts un-reachable except by trick jumping as a human on Boulevard on Reach…

I completely agree with you. I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining about it being too hard as an infected, just that it’s too easy as a survivor. I do not really feel challenged by the infected, because they have no abilities to make it hard, and I have all the abilities to make it easy. Even if the infected storm the survivors, the AR is enough to take them all out. Especially when all survivors pretty much stick together. I do love the maps, and the gametypes in general, just maybe give the infected a little better advantage.

If you want to win at infection this is the way, don’t try to be a ‘lone wolf’
