Infection Melee bug or lag

When I play infection it feels like melee doesn’t even hurt the infected. Example I miss my shotgun shot and they miss their lunge, so since we are in point blank range I melee it hits they take no damage and then kill me. Is this a bug ,crappy internet, or is this simply a game mechanic I’m too dumb to figure out.

the same thing happened to me several times today

Depends I play a lot of infection and it’s all in timing. if your infected and a second behind the other guy and you swing you will still kill him so if your survivor try not to melee it normally doesn’t work unless your last man standing with 2x overshields. It’s just a game mechanic I guess or a bug but it’s always been like that

Unless you can react quick enough before they strike, the infected and their swords will always have priority over normal melee attacks much like rock-paper-scissors.

What HaXoR73 said. The sword has priority over a melee, so the sword will always win against a normal melee attack.

Game mechanic. Like Haxor said above, there’s a rock-paper-scissors system in Halo. Sword will beat other melees with the exception of Gravity Hammer in most situations.

There are a number of factors that go into deciding who wins the contest. For instance, when two people with a BR shoot once and then melee, a player who’s shields were depleted before the encounter will lose. Here, shields are used as the main factor. In your case the weapons play a major role.
