I think it would help this games’ meta if Marines and Grunts could only be built from full main bases(not mini bases or hooks)and the barracks of each team. This would force Infantry rushers to set up a Barracks on mini bases thus slowing the rush slightly and making it cost a little more. Thoughts?
If they did this, they would have to make it apply to scouts as well. I don’t think this would necessarily be a bad thing. I never fully understood why they could be built from minibases, it allows for too much spam.
The infantry barracks are already full of units. To add another, you would have to get rid of a unit or redo the ui for it and if you redo the ui, it makes everything smaller. I personally think it is OK to put them in minibuses. That way as soon as the minibuses is done constructing you can push out troops to defend it and it is a soft target. You can counter marines with 2 types of units at tier 1 (hellbringers, snipers). All of these to significant damage to infantry. At tier 2 you have kodiak and Warthog that can pound marines. I think it’s OK to have marines spawn at bases because there are a hefty number of counters. Your entitled to your own opinion though, I’m not saying your wrong and I’m right and I get what you say about spamming.
I could see the point for Scout units because they have no actual counter in T1 except for turrets. But basic infantry spam is no problem at all.

I disagree. And, these sort of comments typically get reported.
I think it is a thought provoking idea to only produce marines/grunts out of full bases (not mini) and not hooks around the map. Adding the ability to the barracks (assuming the programming can be done relatively seamlessly) would be nice as it would force you to make a decision to use the hook as resource production or unit production. It would be an interesting wrinkle. I don’t think the OP is arguing that infantry spams are impossible to defend against (they aren’t if you are paying attention). I think he was asking if it would be a good wrinkle to add as you would have to make a decision how to best utilize that mini base. Instead of having the ability to produce resources and pump out marines/grunts simultaneously… you have to choose resources or units. This seems pretty reasonable to me.
But maybe I think strategy decisions are pointless… /s

Nope. I disagree entirely with this. The risk of purchasing a mini-base is rewarded with the utility of being able to build units out of it as well as build another unit producing building on it. They are very weak and can be destroyed easily so the risk/reward is balanced to them.
-edit- to clean up non coffee infused grammatical errors.

Thank you sir. It is ok to not be ok with this idea. It is also ok not to be -Yoink- when replying lol. I simply wanted to stimulate critical thinking and discuss the idea. We have done this so I guess this thread was exactly the opposite of pointless. Have a good life DuBingo and take your negative comments elsewhere. Thanks!
