Inf.Ordinance: Could It Be Done Better?

By now, you should all be familiar with what Infinity Ordinances are. For those who don’t really know what I’m talking about, it’s the ordinance that would randomly spawn on areas of the map. We don’t know when it pops up and what it will hold until it does, unless you have that one package that allows you to know what and where it will spawn ahead of time.

It was 343i’s response to players who can take the time to know exactly when they spawn at a given interval, and to reduce players camping them to promote more movement on the maps. All fine and dandy, except the list of weapons tend to be a tad overkill, especially Haven, and an Incidinary Cannon that can technically clean out the width of the half-circle hallway in one shot. A good number of times, it could just spawn next to a player, with no problems from the enemy team, and can pick it up and just widen or close the gap because that player got a bit lucky. To me, it didn’t fix the problem: It just traded 1 scenario for an equal or worse scenario.

To add more salt to the wound, they made the perk that would make this more predictable only available on the person that have it equipped. This would normally be fine should we be playing in the old days where players have a mic and is willing to talk. However, we do not, and thus we are mostly remain clueless, especially against a party that is willing to speak to each other.

To me, I’m all for random placements. However, it shouldn’t be entirely random. I feel they should feature the following:

1- A 30 second timer announcing to all players what will spawn and where.
This gives players a heads up that something they will need is on the way, and that they should keep the enemy from having it. To me, nothing stops a camper from camping if they know for certain that their team would need their help, especially if that weapon can easily take them out from around the corner.

Also, this would give players time to react to the drop, and move and have a battle.

2- It must be in an area that cannot be defended easily above all else.
This would avoid one sided battles from taking place, and create more risk/reward scenarios. Such as The Pit’s hallway where the rocket launcher spawns.

3- It needs to spawn away from both teams. If nothing is available, follow step 2
It would give each team a reason to move, and at least prevent one team from almost always being at the right spot at the right time.

As for the contents, I’m saving it for another time. What do you guys think of the Infinity Ordinances today? Do you think they could be done better? If so, how? Should they be removed in favor of the old times? Keep it clean. Stay on topic.
