As we all know, parties usually run matchmaking. No matter what team playlist you go into, people in full parties generally steamroll you. Now you may get lucky and get that bad team that evens out the fact your team is made of mic-less randoms but it isn’t as often. What about the player who doesn’t have friends on? what about the player who doesn’t have time to put a party together? What about the layer who just wants to jump on for a few rounds of fun? Enter the mercenaries playlist, individuals only.
You won’t have to worry about parties ruining your game experience. Lets face it, matchmaking is crap at matchmaking. I generally see people of wildly various levels and skills matching each other. It wouldn’t be so bad if the team you were matched against actually matched properly skilled players to yours. I know what you are thinking, this is a new game. This problem actually has plagued halo for the duration of its time it has entered online back on Halo 2. I have always wished for such a list to be a reality, thoughts people? I know I am not the only one tired of running into parties and getting nothing but charging randoms on your team.
OK, I’m just going to say that your conception of how the matchmaking system may be misguided. Your perception of the skill of the other players might be different from what TrueSkill calculated, and you can’t go by rank.
Since a lot of players (like me) are still working on the campaign, it may be a while before the really, really skilled players break away from the pack. At that point your online experience may improve.
TBH I just wish there was a better playlist for us loners other than Regicide. Something with FFA Slayer/KOTH/Oddball. I get the concept of a loner team list, but if they could just turn the ability to look for going against pre-made teams or be paired more with individuals in preferences it would be better for those looking all around.

I already know this, I have been dealing wit the various skill systems since Halo 2. My main issue is parties matching randoms. Things get to a point where it is not fun anymore due to matchmaking being heavily favored for parties. I would at least like the option to search for people who aren’t in a party at the cost of waiting longer or another singles only playlist. I can deal with “skilled” opponents on my own but matchmaking isn’t doing me any favors giving me players that weigh me down against a party.

Provided there was a forced use of the in-game chat (assuming the player has a mic of course), this playlist would probably benefit a large number of players. While I like the fact that Halo is largely a team based game, because as you stated OP parties generally steam-roll, some people just want to play solo.
Sounds good to me, I actually wouldn’t mind forced game chat for certain playlists. One of my favorite parts about when xbox live first came out was talking to people in the lobby and cooperating in game.
