So I played this game and had zero problems with any other time, but… that’s ridiculous. Only happened with that player. Didn’t get a clip, but the other one was where they were driving a tank and I was coming up behind them to board and the tank suddenly rubber-banded behind me and my boarding action became me hopping in the turret.
Don’t think it was the server, but how can people with that bad a connection actually stay in the game?
Periodically I see things like this and just have to wonder if the tolerances for people with bad connections are too high? Would be interesting if there was data about the average packet loss rates in games and its effect on matchmaking.
I think it might depend on your search preference. Expanded allows for some pretty awful connections. I searched using Balanced almost always and I only occasionally got players with poor connections in the game. Could that have something to do with it?

Probably yes. 90% sure that I had searched on balanced for that game, but I switch between balanced and expanded quite a lot - especially for warzone - because I’d rather spend my time playing games than twiddling my thumbs waiting for a game
Even if you search balanced or focused, it will only mean that your personal ping will not be too high. You can still match with people searching on Expanded, and their pings could be quite high. People searching on Expanded to find games are probably doing so because they can’t find games on Focused or Balanced.

Thanks. That’s how I figured it worked, but never understood fully to be sure. So again comes down to what the dedicated server’s tolerances are for somebody’s connection to matchmaking. Is there a lower threshold at the moment where the game jettisons players? Or is it a case that if your connection is too bad (or suffers a dip for long enough), you drop but if it’s consistently just not great, behaviour such as above is the effect?
I’m sure the great and powerful Menke has a graph somewhere, but any data that was out there about player behaviour when their connection is worse vs player behaviour when they play against people with a bad connection would be really interesting to see.

If a player’s connection is bad enough that they disconnect, and if that behavior repeats often, the game’s response will be to ban that player. Even if the disconnects are unintentional, they’re still leaving games and leaving their team at a disadvantage. Simply playing under some lag is a different story. There is a balance that has to be struck between being inclusive and maintaining a quality experience for everyone. If the game did not allow players to play just because of some lag, there’s no telling how many people would be excluded. It would be unrealistic to do so. There’s a fine line between a bad connection and an unplayable connection.
The matchmaking settings do set a ping limit on your connection, with Focused being the lowest ping limit and Expanded potentially having no max ping. And with those options, even if you get into a match with a laggy player or two, you’ll only experience an issue when engaging those particular players; everything else in the match should go swimmingly, assuming you’re searching Focused. Stricter implementations such as region locking may be good for players in highly populated regions like the US, but it screws over people in lower populated regions like Australia.

And that’s why we’re lucky to have such a smart and dedicated team working on it. Feel like we all need more Menke-love.
