John’s index fingers are unarmored?
why I wonder? Trigger finger sensitivity? Haptic feedback interface?

Proballly allows him to slide his finger into the triGgers
Allows his index finger to be more flexible so he can pull the trigger easier

He uses his right hand for the trigger, only the index finger on the left is unarmored.

Correction: Both of his index fingers are unarmored. Look again.
Christ, his fingers are MASSIVE in that second picture!! I guess he is 8ft or something…

maybe he is ambidextrous
If he had armor on his index fingers, he wouldn’t be able to fit them in onto the trigger. cool detail.

Master Chief is 6’7 and weighs 287 without armor. With it, he is 7 ft tall and weighs about 1,000 pounds. So his fingers are probably pretty gigantic. 
More dexterity in the trigger finger.

Weird. So he’s basically an NBA player… so that explains the jump height.

The same reason cold weather shooting gloves have thinner fabric on the index finger.
The Spartan IV’s have the same thing (lack of armor on the index finger) it helps slide your finger into the trigger guard, and it also helps when pulling the trigger, etc.
