One thing that I enjoyed throughout Halo 4 more so then I did the entire original trilogy was that the UNSC seemed more like a military. What I mean by that was the increase in use of modern military terminology and it seemed more disciplined, my question to you guys is would you like to see this progress more in H5G or not?
The only gripe that I had with Halo 4’s marines was the fact that there was very little diversity, both racial and gender between them. Hell, not ony where the majority of them white males with strictly American accents, but there wasn’t a single female marine outside of dialogue.
That’s pretty ridiculous.
But other than that, I will completely agree that their more serious approach to combat, using military terms, does make them seem more believable.
Now if only their competence was properly reflected in their AI-programming. [They shouldn’t be driving me off cliffs and/or walking into rocks.]
Agreed, it always seemed like the UNSCDF was a tad bit sexist unless they absolutely need to use all the resources they have when in ground engagements
The UNSC felt a little bland in Halo 4 when compared to previous entries. They did seem more militaristic, but I felt that 343i took one step in the right direction while taking two steps backward. As stated in posts above, 343i should really create more diversity among the marines accent wise, gender wise, race wise, and dialogue wise. Halo 4 had some of the lamest dialogue between the marines.
Yeah i don’t understand how you support the modern look when they are so far into the future. Also , lets face it the marines in halo 4 were just plain ugly. make them look like halo please
I kind of liked the goofballs from Halo CE.
But, whatever dialogue is most relevant to the overall tone of the game.
AI could always use work, perhaps much larger scale fights as well. In the past, you’re usually just with a very tiny group of reinforcements, and they aren’t even a spec-ops group in most cases.
Didn’t really like their appearances past Halo 3. Even then I probably prefer how Halo Ce had them.

We support the modern look because it is practical. The Millitary in our modern age would not bother with such useless, impractical details on their armour like what we have with some armour sets we have seen throughout the series.

This, though I did like their armour designs, they looked pretty cool.
OT: I would love to see this return. Now that Locke is confirmed to be a player character, I’d imagine he’d be seeing more marines than the Chief. Nevertheless, I hope they expand on their military dialogue from Halo 4.
UNSC in original trilogy was rather guerilla compared to Covenant. After 27 years of systematic genocide they took whoever was able to carry the weapon. That’s why it felt like they were more diverse etc.
UNSC in Halo 4 is much more like highly professional, invading army. Also Infinity’s crew members were the elite of all humanity (Spartans, Marines, anything). They just had to be different from these wimps in Halo 3, who couldn’t even drive
Yeah, I think this trend is going to continue in Halo 5. Probably to the point where player will feel disgust towards this bunch of fascists and UNSC forces will become another type of enemies (after Covies, Flood, Prometheans and probably Forerunners).
Eh.
Sometimes Marines say the most unprofessional things in Halo 4. But half the time, you couldn’t hear them, because their guns are louder than their voices.
I appreciate the voices of Spartans, however, saying things like “Alpha Bravos Neutralized”, which is both humorous (if you know what it means), and serious at the same time, which is nice.
However, Spartans shared the same exact AI has marines, which made them look really bad in combat, giving them a false portrayal. And considering that Marine AI isn’t exactly stellar in H4, it only makes them look worse.
Also, unrelated to the discipline, but the Armor they wear doesn’t look very good in my eyes. Looks too plastic-based, like paintball gear, and less like actual Military grade armor. Can’t complain about the Spartans though, because they’re probably wearing the most non-power ranger-esque armor in H4.
> I want them to go back to the roots in terms of having more comedic dialogue between AIs.
I feel like they should leave that for the IWHBYD skull.
When playing the main campaign, I like the sense of purpose and intensity during the story, getting into it.
When a marine suddenly says “I lost my elephant!” or something… that completely breaks that immersion for the campaign.
Using IWHBYD for it would be perfect, so we get the comedy many want to break up the intensity sometimes, but the story remains intact and clear.

Well I wouldn’t go as far as to only include those kind of lines for a skull, granted it’s a neat idea but I’d compromise with having a few funny lines here and there and having an extended selection in the skull, I wouldn’t just eliminate the effect all together.

@WP: No, lots of people - myself included - didn’t think H4 had very much to offer in terms of ‘funny’, but I have to respectfully disagree with the ‘RvB != Humor’ bit. You may not find them amusing, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not humor. It’s just a sort of humor you don’t like.
Bungie, Microsoft, and 343i would have to disagree too since RvB’s been a huge hit amongst all of them.
@SJFX: I have to admit that Halo 4 didn’t really have many RvB refs that I personally liked. Sure, I had fun with the SpOps remarks for a bit, but I much preferred the Halo 3 lines like the Password Lacking Marine.
Halo 5 will most likely have some passing ref to RvB as most other Halo entries have had in some way or form. Exactly what kind intrigues me - and I hope for more subtle ones like Reach and 3 offered honestly.

Sure, RvB is popular, along with Justin Bieber. It’s also a cultural and intellectual cesspit whose level of humour is equivalent to that seen in Idiocracy, minus the self-awareness. If Halo 5 wants to be taken seriously, it should stop pandering to such utter rubbish.

You could get your point across just as easily without such crude wording.
