I’ve noticed a spike in inactive players since the introduction of Match XP. I certainly like the Match XP system better than having to exclusively do challenges, but I’ve played many matches now where people are farming for match XP while being inactive. They’ll occasionally move or twitch as to not be kicked from the game, but other than that, they will stand still and not participate whatsoever.
I’ve even been in matches where it appeared that one player was using two accounts; only one character would move at a time. This results in a guaranteed loss ever time, and it’s becoming increasingly frustrating.
Can we find a way to boot people from games faster for idling or “XP Farming?”, and perhaps even ban them from a short time? 343 has repetitively mentioned how they value competition in Halo, and even though I’m not the most competitive player out there, I do find it annoying to consistently lose because people are being bad sports.
Well the AFK players aren’t really benefiting from the Match XP cause A their not doing anything to contribute so therefore their only getting a fraction of what the rest of the team is getting.
They’re getting a minimum of 150 by default. If the team wins despite them then 200. The only thing they’re missing out on is MVP which is only an extra 50.
I see your point, to be honest shouldn’t the AFK players just not be awarded any XP considering the fact their not doing anything to contribute to their team or the game mode in play?
With the current system they just have to be in the game. They won’t be getting any challenges, but if they’ve done all of them then that hardly matters. Participation really only counts towards MVP. Which like I said is only an extra 50.
This is why the per match payout should be less. So it doesn’t encourage farming. They should just give us XP based on player score so that we get actual participation XP. You do good you get rewarded, don’t play at all then don’t get rewarded at all. They can have it look to see how much you fired, how accurate you were, how much you moved, how many kills you got and if all of that is inside of a range that points at afk then no XP at all.
Because they currently have a low minimum input threshold that’s considered not afk. The current system waits for a few minutes before it will kick someone that’s afk and not moving. So just occasionally moving a bit crosses the minimum threshold and keeps them from being kicked. This is why they need to consider things like firing, accuracy, and k/d. If they fire any and have below 10% accuracy then they should be banned for at least an hour, a full day if they do it again.
The problem is people are fed up with these pointless same challenges over and over again with nothing new in sight. People want a sense of reward but a reason to work towards it. When I see BR kills, Headshots AR kills, Sniper Kills, and Melee kills challenges over and over it makes me not want to play the game.
Well I’d rather see Melee Kills 4 times instead of Get 20 Assists in Rumble Pit. These challenges are better. They do not force you to play the game in a detrimental fashion. You’re not forced to go into playlists you have no interest in. You are no longer required to play the game the way 343i has instructed you to in order to progress. You can just play anything and progress by playing. These challenges just add a little extra XP. Not much, just a little.
Which is yet another example of why Halo has gone downwards over the years. In almost every Halo game Bungie and 343 has done a horrible job at rewarding its community for the task they complete. But are more then willing to tell you how to play there game. Which is what 343 has been doing for years now.
But this a step in the right direction. This is better than what it’s been for a year. I’m not forced to either dump 10 swaps or go play rumble pit because that’s how I’m being told to play if I want to progress. They just need to tune the xp rewards and work on the afk system.
I always felt like Bungie did an okay job at rewarding players for their accomplishments. Specifically in Halo 3. With armors requiring achievements to unlock or reaching a specific rank. Recon was the ultimate reward. Do something amazing or complete the vidmadter challenges which was an amazing accomplishment. Reach a little less rewarding, but the system was fine.
It’s always felt bad unlocking things since 343i took over. The progression systems don’t feel rewarding. Especially when we don’t even have a progression system or the system doesn’t really matter. 4 was the only progression that even really mattered or gave you anything. 5’s was just increasing a number and giving you a couple free req cards that would either be worthless or be used up so quickly that they might as well not even existed. And of course here we are in Infinite a year later with no progression system still. It’s on a “to do” list that’s a freaking mile long.
Yep, this. We need to stop rewarding these people in any way, shape or form. If their thresholds point to an AFK-type player, they should have their XP deducted alltogether.
The rise in AFKers is actually people stuck in one of the loading screens. I’ve had different variations happen, either loading in late when it seemed to be working just fine or just being stuck on the picture but still able to tell when I’m getting shot at.
Nobody is AFKing just to get 150xp points, certainly not the hundreds or thousands of people that must be doing it to have AFKers in every match.
When that happens you can’t control your character. You’re completely still and it should eventually kick you. We’re talking about people who are for sure purposely farming. They are purposely doing small amounts of input to ensure they don’t get kicked.
I thought it was players failing to connect at first but then I saw the enemy team rack up kills on them. At least the game kicks them quicker now but ODST rank bots aren’t very good.
Put a Rubber band on the Left Stick of your controller or some weight on a Keyboard key to move you forward and you can “Spoof” their entire system. You can also put a Rubber band on the Right Stick and make them spin in place, so if you bump into something and don’t move forward, your still moving.
Very Sad that they didn’t care enough to think this through.
