Increase damage of AR?

Hey guys, most of you guys know that the assault rifles in previous Halo games were completely badass. I used one throughout all Halo’s and when I was like 5 or 6 or 7 (around that age) the AR was probably my first gun to use in a video-game. And I loved it.

I feel that the AR in Halo: Reach is way underpowered. My friends say it’s overpowered which I don’t understand - I only use the AR for fast kills when opponents’ shields are down. When they still have their shields, AR is not the weapon people should use.

The AR shown in the E3 Campaign demo of Halo 4 looks promising. It looks pretty powerful. But we’ve never used it so we shouldn’t be entirely too sure. Do you think that the AR needs a higher damage rate? Discuss.

Slightly less powerful than it was in Halo 3’s MP and more powerful than Reach’s version and I think it would be perfect.

Halo 3 version was a peashooter. Reaches version was actually very good. Shooting in a 3 round burst guaranteed %100 accuracy.

The AR in bursts may be accurate but it’s still quite underpowered. You have a better chance at winning a battle for going for headshots with a DMR, Magnum or Needle Rifle.

Meh, it doesn’t matter I have learned the ways of CQ.

On 3 and in CQC you’re gonna drop people so quickly with that AR. lol.

I don’t see anyone using the AR in Matchmaking except newbies who have very bad aim with them and get headshot in two seconds.

Atleast the halo 3 AR could kill people without reloading franticly. The burst firing of reach’s may be super accurate, but weve seen that the halo 4 ar bloomed at a much faster rate.

But what made halo 3’s ar more deadly was its accuracy, but its real stopping power still seemed to fall in comparison to its 4sk br counterpart.

And with then AR’s halo ce-style accuracy (fast bloom, very inaccurate, preferable close quarters,) i think it should be able to kill with 14 shots. (halo 3 was 16 and reach had 18.) Offering two kills per magazine. This could help put it on par with the precision rifles.

How can you say that? The AR was more than capable of beating the Battle Rifle in close range.

Honestly I don’t really care how much damage the AR will do as long as it’s something that people can actually use.

Reach AR is just disappointing.

I liked the Halo 3 AR. It seemed accurate, yet no too powerful. It was one of the best CQC weapons.
I think I could kill someone faster by drowning them with a squirt gun than with Reach’s AR.

That’s what I loved about the AR in Halo 3, such a great weapon. Always loved the AR and I could get a lot of kills without dying. Yet even though it was such a great weapon I would usually win in AR battles and not a lot of people picked the AR up.
In Reach I find the AR as a “Oh, I’m out of ammo” or “Finish him!” weapon.

Judging from a few MP vids I’ve seen, it looks to be the most powerful AR to date.

Halo 3’s Was not very good. Its important to look at potential of the weapon. With noobs, its totally fine between the AR and BR in H3. When you have good players, the kill times are not balanced.

Halo 3 Ar Vs Other Weapons

In this video you can see that the AR loses to both the Carbine and BR in its optimum range… This isn’t right. The AR should be king here (with StormRifle) for halo 4. It can’t be weaker than H3s.

I agree with some of the other posts too. Reach’s AR was better, especially now with TU slayer, burst firing that bad-boy lets you put shots target on at range without significant damage (still not quite good enough I think).

IMHO the most important part that is lacking for the AR: The Ar needs a slight increase in damage(from Halo 3’s AR very slight from Reach’s), and more control-rewarding properties. IE, burst firing your shots at medium range vs BR as you move to cover should net you enough shield damage on your opponent to make it a close fight if he chases. Im suggesting slight bloom (doesn’t expand too far, but enough you can’t hold it down at medium range), that resets quickly to allow effective burst firing, to give the AR-wielder a chance if opponent chases.

This is assuming it is not already as I said here. Which I can’t really gather from the MLG videos.
